Question about combat logging. Would love some feedback.

How on earth do you make 13mil in 1 smuggling run?????

Edit - 13 mill in a DBS in one smuggling run, gotta call on that one .. not trying to be offensive here but really?

That is total . Period. I've tried stacking missions in a bigger ship than a DBS. Most I've been able to stack is 9mil. Then completing the missions is whole other issue. Twice as many jumps with full cargo and endless interdictions. Takes at least two hours and I timed it. This nonsense being spread around that credits are growing on trees and you can make tens of millions per hour is hogwash.

Haha, whatever you want mate. I'll just continue flying these ships bought with imaginary credits.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but you can get banned for that. I think its only fair he is at the very least warned of that.

Oh, really? Banned? I don't think so. The way people cry about combat logging, you would think there are multiple bans per day handed out. If that was the case, the forums would be overrun with complaints about being banned like every other gaming forum I've ever visited. Where are the posts? Where are all these evil combat loggers that have been banned by FD?
Answer: They don't exist because no one is being banned.

ild quit the game if fd did something like that, i live with enough risk in ED

wouldn't get to quit...you would be disabled...in other words they would kick you...you don't get to quit then...they take that decision from you...just pointing that out...you dont get to say I quit after the fact...quiting would be a moot point at that juncture...but to each their own..Sluet was basically being informative....several of us made the same comment...its not to bash a person for it...heck I aint gonna waste my time and effort on it...not gonna video...not gonna send an email to FD...they can figure what to do on their own there...we were just pointing out that...according to FD..one could loose the privilege of playing said game they purchased...then what...wait no body told me...its not fair?...least this way...guy is forewarned and gets to play how ever he wants to...what happens after that...is also a direct effect of that too.....its not a white knight thing really...im not concerned with anyone elses moral compass so wouldnt make it a moral issue either...FDev has made its position clear on it...everything from the "white knight crowd" well most of it...has been to that effect. you do it...if someone wants to do it...thumb their nose at the powers that be...kuddo's...if said person looses access to the game....uhmmm well damn how many warnings do ya think it would take...I get it power to the people and all that jazz...here is another...you dont follow the rules of our establishment...we with hold the right to refuse services...read your agreements...what do we really "own"...FD makes that distinction...it would be wise for us to understand that distinction...harsh or not...its facts...that wont be changed...

Sadly this got out of hand. To be so severely judged personally over one solo play event. To lose everything because of being rammed by a dumb npc or whatever. This was one time I was caught without the insurance and didn't want to end up back in a slow grind sidewinder. This game has a lot of bugs, lag etc. The fact you cannot pause the game in the galaxy map when planning routes or viewing systems leaves you vulnerable. I enjoy the setup but the bottom line is this game can be very unforgiving.

Remember. I'm not pulling the plug in open play and I only switched off the Xbox one time to avoid going back to square one. In Frontier I'd simply reload my save. So to be forced to play by these rules when life is too short sucks, but I do play by them and pay the insurance like anyone else. A pack of vultures have hit me hard before and I could easily have pulled the plug before but didn't. Will I ever leave Starport without enough insurance again. No!

Anyway my thread has grown tired and there's a lot of arguing...Sorry I upset the community. Back to the fun - the game!

Trade in the Python for an ASP and make a few Robigo Shadow Supply runs. There are plenty of guides in the forums so I will not get into the how to. After a few runs, you will have enough in the bank to not worry so much. Better get the getting while it can still be got.

There ya go: over 1.6m/t. That's 25 million per run in my non-optimized DBS. Double the number you considered 'total , period'. Free tip: next time you doubt someone you may want to pipe down a bit, it kinda makes you look like a clown. :)

I've got 20something insurance claims, 6 of those in the last 2 weeks in my Python at 5m/per due to me messing around on planets/moons doing things I KNOW I shouldn't be doing in a Python but you know what? It's FUN! My daughter loves that I'm having fun without killing anyone in a video game for once, my son in law laughs with me and my grandkids are learning that having FUN in a video game is more important than anything else. I've learned some valuable things too, for instance, Pythons+tight canyons+boost=amazing crashes! Pythons+boost straight down+2g or higher=Pythons don't bounce AND the crashes aren't anywhere near as amazing as the tight canyon+boost crashes.

I've gotten my ass kicked in combat when I've taken on a wing and instead of running when things go pear shaped, trying to stick it out due to greed. I've had some PvP encounters and so far, all went my way. If they don't go my way, I either turn tail and haul ass out OR I'll stay to the bitter end and give my opponent their well earned victory.

What I'm saying is that this is a video game, death is part of playing video games, and if you can't let that happen to yourself and laugh it off, even, gods forbid, do as I do and enjoy it, you probably shouldn't be playing video games.

For the record, I've started over in the starter Sidewinder 3 times now, once from a Clipper, another time from an Asp Explorer, and once from a Python. I STILL do dumbass things on a regular basis and will continue to do dumbass things on a regular basis for as long as this game is running because it's FUN!

If it happens in solo, and you're not hurting anyone else's gameplay (ie agreeing to be a possible target in open) then who cares? Solo is as close to an offline game as you can get. Sure you affect the BGS, but is the loss of a single ship really going to sway the BGS massively for anyone? Just my 2c, having skipped most of the thread.

I don't care what people do in SOLO mode or even in open while PVE. I agree that it sucks when they log off while in PVP but there is nothing FD can do about it. The problem is, things like bans are not conform with our local laws here in Germany and other countries too. There have to be an EULA you have to agree to "before" you pay for a product. If you bought a lifetime expansion pass and FD did not forced you to agree to this special terms in advance that allow them to ban you under some circumstances, there is nothing they can do about it later.
Another point is, there are many players out there who never looked into the forums and if they figure out that they can avoid death by turning off their PCs they will do it. Maybe they bought the game at Kickstarter where it was advertised as a single-player game with network options. They have all the rights to treat the game as such and cheat and exploit the hell out of it. :)

You know, I've started back in a sidewinder myself when I played this on PC and lost my progress. I'm wishing I hadn't asked about the whole thing because the criticism and scrutiny to the point where I'm basically being told I shouldn't play video games has gone beyond what I requested. How many people are exploiting the sidewinder bounty trick amongst other things? I haven't. I've still got bounties on my head from missions I wish I hadn't bothered with.

Grinding in a game isn't fun. It's what we do to make progress. We accept that. But the concept of a cheap death caused by a game that interdicts me demanding cargo I don't even hold was enough to make me reset one time to avoid going back to square one after being rammed to near death. Over and out.

I wouldn't take it personally. Combat logging is a bit of a sore topic.
So much so that the sticky on the subject ended up getting locked.

Not that I agree with bans being the solution to combat logging, but is it really that difficult to stop providing a service in Germany? I mean, if a company sells a license to a software, and the software requires a server to function, that damns the company to run software servers until they go bankrupt? It'd be one thing if they were removing your right to the license, but all a ban results in is their refusal of your connection.

I think the possiblity to turn of the servers any time or after n years is somewhere mentioned in their EULA. But that is a different story. After selling a 175€ lifetime pass, the buyer can assume to get a service 4-5 years minimum.

But FD can't simply restrict the gameplay for single users for things which not beeing discussed pre buy.
The only way could be a serverside hosting of the ships movements, but i doubt it, because that will change the whole game architecture only to fight such a unimportant thing like combat logging.

Banning is a fairly heavy-handed solution anyway. It'd be better off to just offer in-game disincentives for combat logging, such as automatic loss of ship.

Snip

Thus, if the game ever loads and the file is found already checked, the game knows the player had reset without saving (and they get a progressively longer chat with a mole character for each reset).

Ohhhh. I like this. It could consist of an interactive but highly (and increasingly) cyclical discussion....
1. With Jar Jar Binks
2. With David Braben

Say 60 seconds for first detection
12 hours for the second ;)

Btw
Combat logging from real player situations = 7th layer of hell stuff
Combat logging from PvE situation = Up to you. How does it make you feel?

Like I said, I appreciate the reason for the insurance and I accept it. But this is a game and solo mode should really be offline and allow players who work hard in their personal lives to enjoy a game without losing the countless hours of effort put in should misfortune strike them. It's especially punishing if people who do so risk losing their accounts. Why such control over solo players? They're solo and not bothering any real person.

This. I never combat logged in any mode, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it in solo mode if I ever felt I ended up in an unfair situation. I backed this game on the promise of an offline mode, and will act accordingly. Not my problem FD failed to deliver.
And considering how FD deal with actual cheaters (1 week shadowban?), I wouldn't exactly be worried about repercussions either.

This, 100%.

Solo - single player - disconnect if you want. Who cares? Feel guilty? So what?

Open - multi-player - disconnect deliberately in a fight with another player - cheating, pure and simple. Feel guilty? Who cares?

Whatever mode - willing to fly without enough cash for your insurance knowing full well that insurance is your 'infinite lives' cheat code? Pure stupidity. Feel guilty? You absolutely should do.

I feel bad when the game disconnects me or crashes mid fight...
I never intentionally close the game in a fight other wise.
I've logged out in a CZ before because I had to leave asap, and I was mass locked, but I wasn't under fire at all at the time.
Combat logging during PvP is just low.
Especially if its that person who started the attack. Lol
On that note, I also consider high-waking a kind of cheat. And thus, I try to avoid doing it.
But I understand the mechanic of it all. If a trolling Conda CMDR decides to pick on an unshielded long haul freighter, that freighter has zero chance to outrun or survive until the FSD charges.
