Vulture needs a class 5 power plant?

Should the Vulture be bumped up to take a class 5 power plant?

I personally feel it does but what do the community think?

Well....

If I were designing a space fighter in real life (but in the Elite universe (before anyone says anything, shut up)) I'd give it a huge power plant, 4 hardpoints and the ability to jump really really far.

Balance. We don't want people flying around in an omgwtfbbqvan fitted with an "IWIN" button... which it almost is already.

I'd be concerned about that too. I'd trade the capability to have a class 5 shield generator for a class 5 power plant though.

Of course players would want it, but upon release, it was stated that players would have to consider the power requirements.
It was a completely conscious decision on FD's part.
I will not say the "b" word.

And while we are at it I would like my FDL to have a 50 light year jump range, and the cargo capacity of my Python. /sarcasm

If the vulture needs a buff, its a stronger canopy. Lol

Otherwise, its perfectly fine and balanced as it is.

Because its a game, and multiplayer on top of that. Typical design logic goes out of the window.
Already its quite difficult to fight off 2 elite vultures in an FDL. Not impossible. But actually a lot harder than fighting off 2 FDLs in an FDL.

I voted NO.

This ship was 20M ship designed.

It now costs only 4M and destroy any progression feelings for the people dedicated to combat.

No, its already op for its price.

This is the most common, and silly reasoning given for keeping the vulture in it's anemic state. Players are under the mistaken impression that the powerplant is what makes a ship lethal in combat and that the hull is what makes it cheap or expensive.
-
If the powerplant is increased in size the vulture hardly becomes more lethal or tanky, because you haven't touched the distributor or heat mechanics. In fact, you'll take a ding on jump range and maneuverability due to added mass. It will also make it significantly more expensive.
-
It will make it much more fun to outfit and give much more variability in loadouts.
-
I love the vulture, but it isn't worth calling my accountant to figure out how to outfit it to fly one anymore, or basically being relegated to a loadout of pulse lasers. It's especially silly to go through all that headache when the FAS exists.

yeah, voted NO too and when it's back at the 20M range for the base ship price we can talk again....
(then I would admit, it could get a bigger one just like the FDL got an extreme (tooooooo extreme) buff lately.)

Voted YES.

You can buy a Class 5, A-rated shield generator, but can't actually run it unless you downgrade EVERYTHING else. My only other options for shields are lowly bi-weaves and the E5 that comes stock.

Basically, they've given you three choices: run E5 shield gen, a gen that costs more but performs worse (basically anything above E5), or buy the A5 and run small hardpoints.

I've had the vulture for months, and have never changed from the E5 shields. I've added boosters, tried running cell banks, and downgrading my other modules. Why give us the option to have the A5 generator if the god damned ship can't even run it without sacrificing literally everything else?

Don't get me wrong, E5 performs admirably if you're a good pilot, but the A5 hangs out there like some distant dream; seducing me with its promises of invincibility.

Unless I'm totally out of line here and someone's managed to run Class 3 beam lasers, A-Rated FSD and somehow fit a larger shield?

Edit: the caveat, of course, is that the vulture might become over powered. I'd like to at least try it for a while and see the impact before solidifying that conclusion, though.

I dont see the need for it. Then again, my FDL used to run at 160% energy usage so maybe its about how much power management you're willing to do. :D

You can run a 5C and still be quite beefy.

I voted for the "no, it would be too powerful" option. The Vulture is already a very disproportionately effective combat ship for its price, with power availability being the only drawback (and a minor one at that if you're intelligent in outfitting it and setting module priorities).
