Robigo runs vs legitimate way to make tonnes of cash

Is there any legitimate way to make so much money so fast? Trading slaves is just not my thing. I'm currently in a financial crisis. I bought a Vulture, but my current incomes are not enough for outfitting and insurance costs. basic bulletin board and bounty hunting is simply not enough. I found some tips on how to make more money, but it seems that nothing comes close to slave trading. Or am I missing something? I don't have enough time for powerplay and even if I did, it's still just 50M per week. Which is like just one Robigo run.

Also it seem a bit weird that someone would offer so much money for slaves. I mean how could a slave possibly work so hard to justify such price for the owner? And these are just the smuggling costs. Others had to acquire slaves, then someone has to feed them, house them, instruct them, guard them etc. Unless the cargo you carry is 1t of slaves and not just one slave in a 1t canister. That would make more sense, but how could you stuff a dozen people in that tiny canister? These high costs suggest some more sinister stuff that happens to them. Maybe they are not just workers but also sex slaves, forced organ donors, gladiators etc.

And even if they were just workers, it's still beyond my moral capacity. So whenever I acquire slaves, hostages, occupied escape pods or imperial slaves, I never sell them on a black market because I think that means slavery. I just jettison them while docked assuming I'm setting them free. I'm not sure if that's helping them though since they are then stuck on some station with no money and probably have to sell themselves anyway. It would be great if there was some faction offering enormous sums of money for killing slave traders and bringing slaves to them so that they can set them up and set them free. Maybe not paying as much as the Robigo cartel pays but still. Considering all the tree huggers here in the real world, I assume there would be a lot more opposition to slavery if it was real to such an extent.

So is there any way to make so much money in ED? Right now it seems that if you want to strike it rich then you either have to be a slave trader or a pirate. But doing moral/legitimate things means being stuck with cheap ships or playing really long hours. Which brings me to another question; Are the majority of players with Anacondas mostly pirates and slave smugglers?

Don't tell me it's just a game and just go trade slaves. I know it's a game. That's why I like this slave trading concept and pirating being available options. But for me, gaming immersion is all about realism. Knowing that if I was really there, I would not sell slaves, so trading slaves in-game would be boring for me as I couldn't get immersed. Slave trading would then for me be just a chore that I simply have to do to be able to afford doing other things.

PS. Also, it would be great if you could kidnap slave smugglers and traders and sell them into slavery.

EDIT (6.jan.2016@20:39) I copied some of my replies here.

-In case someone misunderstood me, by legitimate, I do not mean legal. Whether something is legal in a certain jurisdiction is a completely irrelevant matter in many cases. I always check the politics of the controlling faction. If it is a democracy then I assume that legal = legitimate most of the time. If it's a dictatorship I assume that illegal = illegitimate only around 50% of the time. That is why I don't mind the federal navy giving me missions that are locally considered as illegal. That is what basically the CIA does and I don't mind. That is also why I don't bounty hunt in Empire and other authoritarian systems as there is no guarantee that wanted ships have engaged in illegitimate activities. For all I know they could be perfectly legitimate freedom fighters.

-Some might have misunderstood me and think that I believe that illegitimate activities shouldn't be the most lucrative ones. Illicit activities should be the most lucrative as they are even in the real world. But that doesn't mean that they are common or easy. It can certainly be very lucrative to be in the mafia, but that definitely isn't a common nor an easy job. Right now whenever you meet a cmdr in an Anaconda, you can almost be 100% sure that he is a slave trader. And I heard here in this thread that they are doing it whilst watching YouTube. It makes no sense why someone would pay you that much for an easy job (ignoring the fact that I think that these slave cargo canisters from Robigo seem quite overpriced regardless of how difficult it is to transport them. Slaves in the real world were not worth much more than cattle).

So I do think that some balancing is still needed. FD should for example include missions for bounty hunters to hunt down slave traders on the fastest routes between Robigo and their popular smuggling destinations and/or add missions to patrol the popular smuggling stations outside the docking port alongside local security and scan passing ships. The more slaves you find the more you get paid. That would balance out gameplay somewhat as people could get rich legitimately whilst keeping the illicit activities still the most lucrative albeit more dangerous as they should be in the first place. And if people decide to do it in solo mode, well Anacondas in wings should do the trick.

This balancing should be made adequate enough so that less than half of rich players are criminals even though the richest most capable ones maybe still are. Right now ED is a kind of a parody of the real word as everyone who is rich is a criminal. Most people in my country would say that this is actually the case, but I for one don't believe it.

It depends a bit. Money makes money in ED, so the usual bulk trading in T9/Conda/Cutter and such still earns obscene amounts. When you dont have that kind of resources to begin with, the only real option is to bounty hunt. In hi-res7, espescially using the pp-bonus, you'll earn many millions an hour as well. Beyond that, in small ships disgusting criminal acts simply earn more than being kind. :)

Do you mean hazardous resource extraction sites? Does that mean I can get a bonus for killing wanted slave traders if I'm allied with the right power?:D Do you know which one is it?

OP is probably the only person on Earth that cares about ED's infinite supply of virtual slaves. ;)
Yeah probably. The first time I dumped a bunch of expensive cargo into the hangar as opposed to selling it on the black market was the stupidest I felt in a really long time.

Oh, Pranav Antal has as one of the pp-task the liberation of slaves from the Kumo Crew. These slaves are, according to in-game lore, the family members of those that ended up on the naughty-list of the pirate lord. For money I'd go with high-res, rather than haz-res. Haz-res is more exciting, but risk/reward is worse. In hi-res you basically get high-ranking pythons and such thrown at you one at a time. Haz Res has the tendency to throw wings of them at you...

Yes, I had one last night for a small qty of legit inventory. There's also data runs, there's all kinds of missions. They just don't pay quite as well.
Also, you didn't mention not being a drug runner, so there's that.

Yup, head to Robigo, Fehu, Aditi, 17 Draconis, or anywhere remote. Pick up long range haulage missions.. Higher the trade rank the more money you get, bigger cargo hold obviously helps.

Great tnx. I take it is not as lucrative as slave trading though?

Is that the crazy techno/utopia dude? I'd rather stay away from him. Unless it's just for the slaves. What is the difference between hi-res and haz-res? edit; never mind I checked.

Dear lord, those systems are WAYY OUT in the middle of NOWHERE lol, and yet are owned systems by Fed/Empire.

I am a returning player from the Beta/Launch days of ED, so theres a bunch of stuff to re-learn. At least I left myself in a Cobra.

That's the one. :D But you can basically chose from:
1. Zachary Hudson ( Cheney)
2. Felicia Winters (Hillary Clinton)
3. Arissa Lavigny-Duval (hardcore pro-slavery empress)
4. Denton Patreus (Playboy-Goes-Military)
5. Aisling Duval (Smurf Princess)
6. Zemina Torval (that other imp)
7. Edmund Mahon (you know, that alliance that wont allow you in the rank and has nothing to offer whatsoever)
8. Li Yong-Rui - (whats-your-name-again" CEO of monstercorp)
9. Archon Delaine (psychopath pirate)
10. Pranav Antal (cult leader)

Haz-res is fairly new and has been added for those that thought hi-res is too easy. Basically go there once you're starting you find yourself getting bored of hi-res in a well-decked out quality combat ship.

Cargo other then slaves? And not payed by the Robigo cartel or some other illegitimate faction?

I have made four runs out of Robigo in the past 18hrs and have pocketed 145mil Cr in an 80T Asp running regular old slaves, not the fancy Imperial variety.

Do I care about the slaves? Nope, not in the slightest. I will run anything, anywhere, anytime. Guns, drugs, illegal meds, slaves/indentured servants, stolen goods....it doesn't matter to me as long as I get paid.

Once you learn to look out the canopy vs looking in the cargo hold you will be better off!

:D

Edited in response to my own brain fart. lol

I should have stated the time frame as 36hrs, not 18. Two runs yesterday, beginning at 5am and another out around noon. Then again this morning around 5am again and the next around 11am finishing around 4pm.

Why do I start so early you ask? Well my normal roll-out time for a work day is 3am, so any later than that is actually "sleeping in" for me!

Heh. But if I understand PP right, I get bounty bonuses by just being in the right system? Or do I have to pledge allegiance and then work for the some time before I get the bonus?

.

Long haul bulk missions are more lucrative if you have a high trade rank & big cargo hold (Python very good, a cutter is the best option if you are Elite rank) Not sure what profits are like now, I dabbled in slave trading, was making 2.5 million every round trip (16 minutes, 532 tonnes in a T9)

Heh. But if I understand PP right, I get bounty bonuses by just being in the right system? Or do I have to pledge allegiance and then work for the some time before I get the bonus?

Two of the ten powers give you bounty/bond bonuses. Zachary Hudson (President, Federation), and Arissa Lavingy-Duval (Empress, Empire). The others have different bonuses for exploration or trading.

In order to get the bonus:

1. Pledge to either of the two which grant you the combat bonuses (ZH, ALD).
2. Earn at least 100 Merits for them by any means (Fortification, Control, Undermine), and turn them in at a station in a system CONTROLLED by your power. You cannot just turn them in anywhere.
3. Wait until the Thursday cycle.
4. You now have your 20% bonus on bounties and bonds -

- However there is a catch. The bonus only applies in (someone please step in and correct me if this is not accurate) CONTROL systems for that power, and systems EXPLOITED by that power.

For example you cannot pledge to Hudson, and go bounty hunting in Imperial/Alliance space and expect the bonus to apply. You need to stay in the bubbles of systems controlled and exploited by your chosen power to receive the bonus on bounties/bonds.

ALSO - only half of your merits transfer from on cycle to the next, so you will need to earn a few merits each week to maintain the rank (2) necessary to receive the bonus.

You basically have to be rich already to do that. Are there any million cr jobs for like 32/64t cargo holds? 532 tonnes of slaves every 16 minutes? What are they building pyramids or something?

the time i was interdicted by a star that forced my cargo hatch open; dumping about 60t of slaves made me feel pretty bad. (mostly because i couldn't be bothered to scoop them all up again) i just flew away wondering how hot would it be in that little pod of theirs by now.
