Your "oh crap" moments

I will start off, I was in a HazRes and finished scanning a deadly anaconda, he was in a wing of 3. No problem I thought, he will only have up to a cobra as wingmen. Opened fire and all 3 of the wing attacked back, shields down before my second PA shot went off. I realised his 2 wingmen were both conda's of dangerous. Managed to escape with 3% hull, damn mass lock.

Lost an srv this morning. Lost control while descending a slope that I didn't think would be a big deal until I saw the insurance screen. Woke me up better than coffee, that did!

Test flying the Cutter, dropping out of supercruise in front of a station and boosting toward the slot like I always did in my Clipper. Realizing too late that the Cutter's inertia was a tiny bit stronger than its thrusters.... SPLAT! O.O

Over a month into an exploration stint and I jumped into a system right on top of a secondary star that was very close to the primary, pretty much sandwiched between the two. It was late at night and I'd been dozing off when it happened so I got a huge fright, heart thumping - no heat sinks so had to battle to get away from both stars quickly. After that I decided to make my way back to the bubble, without visiting any more multiple-star systems.

Oh Crap x3

While flying/hovering close to the surface of a planet, looking for POIs, I notice lights in the distance, so I hover closer and closer, trying to get to scan range.
Next thing I know, 2 turrets on the surface open fire on my ship - Oh Crap! - moment one.
No biggie, I'll just reverse thrust until I am out of the turrets range... Yeah, as if. Shields down, hull down to 20% - Oh Crap! - moment two.
Swung the ship around and got far enough out until I wasn't getting hit anymore, landed on the surface with 7% Hull left.
Took the SRV (sorry, the "buggy") and investigated the POI. It was two turrets guarding six automated mining stations, blew them all up for six chunks of Uraninite.
Realized I was some 2000LS from the nearest starport, for much needed repairs and the commodity market, I was hoping I wouldn't get interdicted.
Sure enough, halfway to the starport I get interdicted, by an anaconda - Oh Crap! - moment three. I thought I was gone for sure.
My shields got shredded in no time and had my canopy blown open, oddly enough, after firing off a few shots, the anaconda just rolled and rolled without any
resistance until it got blown up. The rest of the way to the starport I was just mumbling "no more interdictions" repeatedly.

Late night T9 trading. Drastically underestimated how tired I was and rammed my wing into the ship catcher outside the mailslot. Went from full shields to 5% hull instantly
O_O was my face the whole time while docking. Went to bed straight after

My phone went off whilst I was navigating though an asteroid cluster.

Direct hit! Shields gone and 3% hull.

I guess using a phone and piloting is just as dangerous ;)

My entire first time landing on a high G planet, learnt to never use downwards thrusters there after bellyflopping all over the place and miraculusly surviving

I was chasing a mark in my FDL and was not paying attention to the star I was jumping to. So after I took down the mark I set course back to a station only to realise I did not have enough fuel to make the jump. I looked all around for a scoopable star in the vicinity of 2.5 lyrs that my fuel tank was able to jump to, but could not see one. Frustrated and much cursing took place as I had some res bounties to the tune of 5mil to hand in also, so I hovered over the self destruct button...

I did not press it though, I went back to the gal map to have another gander and noticed star in a tight cluster of Brown Dwarfs that was scoopable, I have never been so relived in my life. =D

After watching a thread on FA Off yesterday I thought I'd try it last night. The poster was in a Sidewinder. I was in an Anaconda with 400+ tonnes of Gold on board - no idea what I was thinking!

Abandoned the FA trial with no shields and plenty hull damage, even then it took me several seconds to get off the side of the station!

Also traveled 2000ly + when horizons went live to land on a planet near a massive star. First high G I'd landed on, well I say landed - it was a fast trip back anyway! :(

Early in my Elite Career - before release, I had a type 7 filled with imp Slaves. As I entered a station, the 'station glitch' happened and my ship appeared half way in to the side of the station. She took damage until she went pop; taking all my money with it.. I was busted down to a sidey with no money to speak of. I was O.O !

Double ouch.

I lost Python in dock, not sure if it was a bug. Went to lift off and ship flippped and spinned without me doing anything. So lost cargo, but did not lose mission.
So had to rebuy cargo and complete delivery or risk 1mil+ fine.
Then headed back to Cubeo with gold only to be jumped by commander wing of 2 x Imperial Clipper. Who then kill me due.

16mil+cargo lost in 15mins.

Don't forget, if this happens again, this is what the Fuel Rats live for, so don't panic - give them a call :)

And as for "oh crap" moments - I think the most recent one was deciding to pop in to Lave/Leesti during a CG to pick up some rares for a return run and forgetting I was in open :( Interdict, "under attack", "shields off line/ taking damage", "eject, eject" BOOM - all in less time than it just took me to type that ;) Bye bye Cobra, bye bye exploration data, hello insurance screen and a different return route next time!

Driving along in my SRV along a plateau and paying too much attention to the pretty sky. Didn't notice I was driving towards a near vertical cliff!

SRV plummeted nearly 6km to my death. I tried the thrusters but at that speed it was pointless when the gravity was 0.8G.

I had one last night after a hour or so in a Haz res in my Corvette...

I was helping some new players get some(fairly) easy cash and made several million myself(rank 5 with ALD), so we go back, reload, and re- arm, we did this twice... more easy cash for me and them.
However... on the last run i decided to kick the auto dock in, and go to the loo...

Upon returning to the pc "you have died, killed by the system security forces!"....WHOOT!??? ....32 mil creds of rebuy later i ask the lads on TS "err what happened?"

"The security services just went ape on you man, you were just cruising into the slot and the opened fire...LOL"

So it appears my 400cr fine for clipping someone in the haz res site cost me a "little" bit more than 400 CR! I`m not really complaining, but the security services need to get a life!
I`m good for a lot of rebuys like this, but that is beside the fact. And that the HAZ res security link clearly works and that it didn't state that i was wanted or had any outstanding bounties on my head..

/meh

Every time I get distracted and nail it into a station docking port (Corolios or similar type) at 200+ having forgotton to request docking permission.

I was flying my DBX over a metal rich planet with high, vast mountain ranges. Following a POI at about 3500m altitude, I pitched up a bit to clear a mountain peak ahead, about a km away and boosted

The fact is, that mountain peak was not a peak km away but a tiny pillar of rock sticking out right in my face but by a quirk of perspective appeared high and mighty and very far away. I realized the ship was going crazy with the impact alarms a little too late to say the least.

DBX is not a very expensive ship, the buyback was about 500k but I lost quite a bit of exploration data.

That moment when you realize you not only forgot to load your cargo during your AtoBtoA run but you didn't even unload what you were dropping off. Aw Crap!!
