Orca as a distant worlds ship?

Ok, I'm giving serious thought to ditching my exploration Anaconda in favour of a more "interesting" ship for the Distant worlds expedition.

Without taking an SRV i can get around 19-20Ly out of an Orca.

I doubt I can make beagle point but I'd like to get my intergalactic gin palace to around waypoint 20/21.

So does anybody recon it's actually viable as an exploration ship?

Well if you can afford an Orca then why the hell not???

Do it in style... ;)

Go and ask BongoBaggins- He is an expert with the Explorca (Made it to sag a and a bit further, only he ran into a binary or something like that and died)!

If your gonna build an exploration vehicle out of a ship why not do it with some style? :p

If you want to do it, just do it! I don't recall seeing anyone on the roster with one, so you'll be the first :)

My personal opinion is, do whatever makes you feel good. Yeah, you may not make the full route, but people are taking Cutters and other short jump stuff and relying on Jumponium to get over obstacles.

By the way, if you take a floating Gin Palace to make you feel good, then good on you. And can I stop off for a Jacussi in there at some point? ;P

Oh, and the photo opportunities are ace mate! :)

It should has a bar. And a shop. Probably it has a pool, but what for if you have a bar? Or a pub.

Hi Cmdr...I am a huge Dr Who fan so love your sig quote...which I will now correct ;)

"People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect. But actually it is more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff."

Edit: This also happens to be from my all-time favourite Dr Who episode..."Blink".

Apologies for my pedantry

Well, yes, the Grass Hopper II could use a wash too...

No, no, thank you! I was recollecting it, and thought something is missing here. Fixed :)

Hell, stock up on enough jump boosts, and you'll make it to Beagle and back. I wouldn't want to spend all that time prospecting, but it's possible...

Well, that's settled it then. The Anaconda has been mothballed. Long live the Orca.

I've fitted out the gin palace as an explorer, managed to squeeze in a single SRV and still keep an 18.75Ly jump range, with decent shields and thrusters and with the bare minimum power distributer that lets me boost.

Before I make it official and get my ship changed on the Distant Worlds roster I need a good ship name, any suggestions?

Some ideas from work mates were:
"Stringfellows"
"Welcome Break"
"Spearmint Rhino"
And various ocean liner names "Lusitania", "Olympic" etc...
