Python advice pls

Been striving for one for a while to use to fulfill my trading urges, got one, a week later trading went to :):):):), lost my urge to trade. Its been sat at a station for a little while feeling sorry for itself.

Question is, do I convert it to something else? If so, what?
or do I cut my loses and buy a FDL for PvP related activity (which I haven't tried yet)?

I have a combat FAS, explorer Asp, fixed weapon training Imp Eagle & Vulture, mining Cobra MkIV, stripped Viper MkIV and a smuggling/transport between ships DBX

PvP/CG's are the next thing for a build I think, but what??

If you have the funds use it for combat, it takes quite some time getting used to and FA Off is a must, however it's a beast. To be perfectly honest, with the buffed FDL I'm not entirely sure which performs better in PVP, however the Python is generally superior (packs a bigger punch, bigger distributor, much bigger jump range, many more internals etc.), only the maneuverability is quite a drawback in comparison. I fly both and love both (though the Python a bit more), I think it's a matter of personal preference.

Just be aware that there will hardly be any chasing targets with the FDL. 12LY jump range tops, pretty much everyone can outjump that.

I had a Python and couldn't deal with the nerfed handling of it after 1.5. So I sold mine for an FDL.
And I love it! A B/C spec battle Python will cover the entire cost of A rating an FDL with the exception of Military hull.

My loadout is roughly
2 x 2F/G Pulse Lasers
2 x 2F/G Burst Lasers
1 x 4A Plasma Accelerator! (So nice!)
3 x 0A shield boosters
Chaff
Heat sink

All A rated Modules, bar hull.

Then I have an A4 SCB, fuel scoop, KWS, FSD Interdiction, and advanced discovery scanner, cos I'm lazy when flying to new systems.

Only down side is the 12.3ly jump range and 8t fuel tank. It's easy to almost get stranded when using fastest routes. Scooo at every star!

Rebuy is 5mil CR :)

Saying that, I'm saving for another Python now, as a heavy hitter for winged combat with smaller ships.
Only 150mil CR to go. Lol

Tried Mining Yet? Take a break from the Smuggling, Grind, Combat, Trading.....Put your feet up and do some peaceful Mining! Python can be fitted to mine wonderfully, and have some teeth for those pesky NPC Pirates. I mine in my Python all the time. Love mining!

I know you Smuggle as we have chatted on another thread....What about trying to long distance Smuggle? (Not Shadow missions, but Standard Illicit Cargo deliveries) Might have to be lean with the python fitout to get the jump range, but it makes a good Smuggler!

That's another thing I haven't got round to working out yet. Buying from a legal market in one place and selling to a black market elsewhere? Is it more lucrative than legal trading, i thought there was an imposed discount on the black market?

the fitout is pretty lean, mostly D modules to reduce weight and increase jump range

Yeah I'm with Wasp0 Pythons are great for mining, large weapons to blow away any NPC's and still get the best mining lasers. Plenty of internals as well so you can have shields and prospector/collector limpets as well as the refinery and you'll still have plenty of cargo space.

I am on about the long distant Smuggling, but not the Shadow missions. There are some high cargo capacity high value smuggling missions to be had at Robigo/Takurua/Sothis/17 Draconis etc. Take 65 Narcotics to ******** and we'll pay you 5-6 million. If you get scanned you get a fine, but unlike the shadow mission you don't lose the mission payout.

Not Interested in the feet up Mining :) ?

PS. Yes buying Imp Slaves from LTT 37 and selling to closest Black market can earn you very good profits. Getting scanned as i did results in a VERY big fine (I got 1.7 Million fine Ouch!)

Ahh Ok, yes I have seen those on the unavailable missions (32T DBX)

I dabbled in a spot of mining with the Cobra MkIV (purely used it to see if I would like it), didn't really know what I was doing at the time so that got parked at a pristine metallic ring with the intention of going back to it. I could definitely lose a couple of hours there.
Any build suggestion??

Until you get used to collector limpets you'll be OK with 1 x 3 collectors so something like this:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=705,5TP5TP5TPH9WH9W,2-BaA07_6uBaA08I,0AA0AA5H_08c5Vk7RA05U0a65uk

But you don't NEED A rated refinery or A rated shields so fit it to your budget. As you get used to mining you might want 2 x 3 collectors so both 5 slots are used by collectors.

EDIT

If using low shields avoid RES though.

Agree with Cmdr H,

here is mine for a different fitout. Hardpoints and Utilities are really preference, but this is a cheap mining fitout for a Python and will earn you some nice dosh in a Pristine Metallic site. Especially when you hit the 3 P's in one 'droid (Panite, Platinum, Palladium )

http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/06...gDM2kA==.IwBhrSu0LI==?bn=Waspo_Mining_ Python

My current Mining Python has a few more A bits on and bigger refinery and A rated collectors, but either this or Cmdr H's fitout will see you very well in mining!

Mine is my mining/smuggling/trading ship and it still packs a punch. Three large gimballed pulse lasers and two A shield boosters make it pretty handy in combat while I still have 160 tons of cargo and a 14ish jump range while laden.

An A spec with military hull is a very different beast than a D spec Python. I config mine for multi-role leaning towards combat preparedness. I'm not about maximizing any specific capability. Its a good ship for doing whatever you want on a whim, with a solid capability of shooting down things that get in your way. I use 2xLg Gimbal beams, 2xMed Multicannon Turrets, and 1xLg Gimbal Cannon. The Cannon isn't all that useful.. except for the occasional run-in with a Conda or other large ship. I may swap the cannon for something else, but haven't decided yet. If you load your Python with too many energy heavy weapons, you'll run into heat issues. A good balance means a better sustained fire, and total damage output. Being able to use FAOff to maneuver (flip direction) in combat is a MUST, as it does have quite a slow turn rate with FA on all the time.

I was spec'd for mining for a while. Its an excellent mining ship. Sure I made some credits, but it was boring as heck to me. I like to hop around frequently, visit many systems, trade, run some missions, pop some pirates, and sometimes goof around with no specific purpose. Profits aren't always on the forefront. I just want to do fun things. Just keep in mind, any well geared Python is going to have a chunky rebuy. My outfit is some 7.5mil creds for insurance. Its not cheap, so a death hurts. So I wouldn't try surface skimming planets or doing canyon acrobatics. I'd get something small, cheap, and fast for that.
