General / Off-Topic are you worried win 10 users

They are stopping Windows Live Mail just so they force us onto Win10. I seriously can not believe how power hungry and insecure they have become. It is obviously now a CIA ran company.

Turn off auto updates. Search installed updates, uninstall, erm, KB something or other (Google reminds me it is KB3035583). Search for updates - hide it! Turn back on auto updates (or set it to whatever you usually have it at). Delete the folder C:\Windows\System32\GWX. Sorted... probably.

They are GIVING away one of their primary money makers (Win10 - 200 MILLION devices and counting) so they are going to gather browser data to use for marketing JUST like Google and Apple do on your phones/tablets. Its a fact of life in our connected world and a well accepted business model. Don't want them to collect your data? Don't take their free OS....

I especially like your final proviso! But thank you i might have to go and do this also :)

There was a registry key someplace, I'm not 100% sure it's still current though.

http://m.winsupersite.com/windows-10/disabling-windows-10-upgrade-notification

From the instructions it looks like that just stops the icon and notification, but leaves the junk behind, maybe even still running! If you remove and hide the update (and files) then it shouldn't be needed I don't think. In fact, I'd want it left in case GWX comes in another update or something, not that I'm suspicious or anything. ;)

Also, there are ways to make Win10 look like Win7 and even disable Cortana permanently so it never keeps coming back after each boot.

Did this on one of 4 computers. Will do all and thanks for the info as the popup is a pain. +rep :)

Dang! the update won't stay hidden!
Un-Dang! I had to restart computer for it to remember to hide that update. :)
P.S. I only hide it. I did not DELETE any files.

The big problem is that Microsoft is also pushing for Win10 exclusive Software, including games. Probably the only reason why DX12 is Win10 only is to force people to switch.

Bit late in the day to start worrying about online data collection in it. Passed caring about that about the time I pressed do you accept the T&C’s.

I got nothing to hide and no great paranoia that someone knows every time I put Middlesex in the search engine websence flashed a big red light up in cooperate America that I’m on the :):):):) sites again.

Actually the more they collect the better, hopefully it will identify some clown in a bin liner and the man with the real life HOTAS will get to press the fire button.

Edit,

Interestingly when I pressed the preview button I see that FD filters put the smiley faces where a quite innocuous word was. As I said bit late to start worrying now

Dear Mod, this is one time that I can actually say I can help you. Under Windows Updates, I am assuming you know how to get there, you can find the Update KB3035583.
This is the update that posts that annoying and distracting update message and Icon on your bar. Simply right click on it and choose Uninstall. You should be wary that this update may return in your OPTIONAL updates tab. Do not just download and install again. Look at your Optional Updates any time you decide you want to download them. I hope you can get it from here. If not, ask again.

Any of you using cracked W7 or W8?

Now... have you considered, the hackers hidden some backdoors for themselfes in your machine?
Hell know why, but somehow i feel more secure in a legit W10 where i can swich off most of the unwanted data giveaway, than use a hacked Windowsa where the god knows what kind of backdoors they have, and how they can use?

EDIT; On the other hand?

They are collecting user data only, as far they are doing anonimly, only to use for targetted ads, research, to know more how and why we using our machine so they can make better programs and PC's i have no real problem with it.

I tell you why? Because I got W10 for free, and this is how i pay for it.

Just like girls, you either pay for it, or work your way on the honeypot.... ;) :D

About your concerns? I understand and dont like it. But? weeelll... As i mentioned above?

Why would anyone use a cracked version of Windows? Make sure you only download the ISO's from Microsoft and there's next to no chance you'll get a bad version, unless your machine is already compromised :( there's really no need for any of the cracked nonsense.

Just doing that, i got my new Video card today, downloaded some updated driver to my SB live, and now praying to be W10 compatible, because the integrated audio cards dont even hold a candle to that old timer sound card. taken my machine apart, cleaned the fans, Main board, applied some oily rocket science to the jacks (WD40) ECTS ECTS. in the meantime i had one blue death which caused my monitor to not turn on so i needed to completly power it off and pull out the plug so it can reset itself just like the routers but way more slower. (half hour or so) Clock also lost snych so W10 installer did not wanted to start, that's also needed to figure it out.

And if its not enough i still going to need to install all the drivers programs and other things to the new Op system, and befriend myself with it because i'm not used it before.

Busy day. :cool::rolleyes:
