OK , who told MoM about HRP?

Last night I was flying along minding my own business doing a little trading and smuggling when I was interdicted by a Viper Mk IV. Not a problem I thought, my Asp's MCs and pulse lasers will make short work of it. As my shields started to fail alarmingly rapidly, I noticed that the Viper was ranked Deadly and was packing a railgun and a cannon as well as lasers. I got his shields down and unleashed all of may firepower at him, expecting his hull health to drop quite quickly. To my dismay it didn't. I was scoring plenty of hits but his hull didn't seem to be taking anywhere near the expected amount of damage. Realising the likely problem, I targeted his power plant, eventually leaving him dead in the water so to speak so I could deal with him at my leisure.

Anyone else encountered NCPs with hull reinforcement yet?

Yes. My used-to-be-devestating cannons barely deal any hull damage these days. They can still knock out a power-plant with relative ease, however.

Viper MK.IV's are extremely tough to kill, I've noticed. I can literally make shorter work of Federal Corvettes in combat zones in my Anaconda.

It's a massive nerf to ammo based weapons. And a massive nerf to fun. No one enjoys wailing at an NPC for minutes before they blow up.

This game is more like a recreation of EverQuest at this point than Elite.

It's not that bad with big ships, as HRP add just a few extra hitpoints, but a 2D HRP TRIPLES the hitpoints of a sidewinder. This is absurd. This was called absurd in beta, it was deflected with "it's just the beta!" and then it was pushed live without any further changes.

I've run across everything from Sideys to Anacondas running HRPs, which I figure is only fair since I run them in my Python, so why shouldn't the NPCs do it?

When you run across one, target the drives or PP, you can then toy with them at your leisure, maybe even have some more of their friends show up so you can have MORE toys to play with.

insanephoton, I've seen an NPC Anaconda using silent running, didn't realize it was an Connie at first, just notice the movement out a ways and concentrated on the FAS that was in my face. I get the FAS on the ropes and suddenly my shields are gone and I'm seeing LOTS of weapons fire going past me from behind. I swing around and it's an Anaconda, shields are charging up and he's firing like mad. That sneaky big bastiche was sitting out there waiting for me to be distracted before he came in. Tore me up but good before I could finish him off too. I didn't think to target the moving ship that was sitting out there, figured silent running, means it's probably a Sidey or Cobra right? Nope, it was a freaking Anaconda. A class sensors in my Python, I can target a silent running ship over 2km out, but with a FAS in my face and usually just little ships being silent...live and learn..barely!

Yes, because I can clearly remember flying a FGS in Everquest.

Challenging NPCs is more fun than having a constant stream of canon fodder, and yes I do use ammo based weapons.
