UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

I'm looking to jump in and participate in the ongoing efforts... especially scouring planet surfaces. Been quite inactive for a while due to a new baby in the household... figured scouring planets in between diaper changes HAHA will be low enough impact, and is easy enough to step away from on short notice. Combat zones, Hazres, or smuggling is just not compatible with such a situation ;P

I have a lot of catching-up to do to figure out what the heck is going on though. No idea what the core focus of things is these days.

Gearing up my Python and heading out from the bubble hopefully tonight. I'm not after max jump range, but I'd like some core combat/defense capabilities while carrying some 4 SRV's for spare. Hey, if a hostile Thargoid does rear his ugly mandibles, I want to be able to deploy the gimballed RAID can and Turreted Fly Swatter.

Congrats on the baby CMDR! Everyone is pretty much focused on finding barnacles on the planets at the moment. I'm sure others are still working on UA research as well.

And yeah.. you might get maybe 5 miles in between those diaper changes. :)

People with these ships are needed.
Adder
Asp
Asp Scout
Clipper
Cobra
Corvette
Currior
Cutter
Diamondback Scout
Diamondback Explorer
Fedral Dropship
Fer De Lance
Hauler
Keelback
Orca
Python
T6
T&
T9
Viper mkIII
Viper mkVI
Vulture
(sidewinder still undecided if it is worth doing)

On my way in an Asp right now (ETA : 10-15min), but could offer many other Ships at a later time.
Only issue for me is they're parked some 500LY away from the Pleiades.

HMMM when ever ive shot the power plant things go boom, it has been a while since i shot at things has it changed?
Does sound more fun though :D

Affirmative, power plants being destroyed now result in a loss of ~50% and NPC ships seem to be awful at power prioritising, so they more often than not end up stopped with no shield and no guns. If you keep shooting at the destroyed power plant however, it has a chance to go critical and blow up the entire ship.

Sounds like barnacle hunting it is! I just signed up on the Canonn sites and did my new recruit post... still don't have teamspeak on the old box, but will get that going too.

I've done some testing after a CMDR in the previous thread tried to figur out the type of planet in the trailer usin the SRVs thrusters.

Here is an enhanced screenie of the trailer pic:

So at 1g thrusters are off.
< 1g thrusters point up.
> 1g thrusters point down.

I can't see any difference between the +1g thruster positions, so I doubt they simulate the g-force through their position.
The only thing I can tell from this comparison is that the planet in the trailer is a +1g type.
(although not sure this little scene wasn't staged for the trailer)

The other thing you can see is, that those barnacles are relatively big and should be observable when flying over the surface.

Dude... you are a GENIOUS. I can just scrap more than half of the planets I was going to look for !

Good test CMDR. Seems like they aim down on worlds with more than 1g and up the on worlds of less than 1g, and as you are saying the angle seems the same. My guess (and I suppose yours) is that what changes is the level of output of the thrusters. So higher output in a 4g world than in a 1.5g world.

It's a pretty cool design, I have to say.

Why create a complex thruster sys, then place a "teaser" and just make it staged... there's no point, this is a hint, and this can narrow down the search to about 10% of the planets!

Thanks for the help but we have the Asp done :)

Oki :)

PS.
I reviewed the Horizons Launch Trailer again...

With "some POI manually placed" in mind and seeing the scene with the "Green stuff building" being in darkness (which surely makes the encounter more interesting visually & spooky)...
I guess I'll be looking at the dark side of a tidally locked Planet/Moon.
If my train of thought hasn't entered the wrong station so to speak, at least for me that somewhat narrows it down a little (hoping I find tidally locked Planets around there in the 1st place, otherwise my plan isn't a good one ;) )

-- edit --
Just read that great G test... looking at >1g Planets only indeed would help narrow it down alot!
(only if the Trailer used actual realtime graphics from the Game though, good point there - many scenes don't look in-game)
