UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

The Anaconda is also situated in a crevasse, so when the sun comes up, the area can turn back to shadow again quite quickly as the sun moves behind a mountain for a while. Timing it to get the location in full light might be tricky.

Thx for responding, I thought that it is difficult to find the right timing. Nice Video about it, btw.

Just doing the exercise to learn more about finding such places in general as it might help with the barnacles.

Once I realised I needed to increase the scan range, I was seeing up to 3 POIs at once in my scanner. And once I'd flown out of the 3rd one, 2 more were visible (I'm assuming you don't see old POIs that you've already visited - at least IME I've never found the same one twice!) So with this - together with the knowledge to ignore the "low band" contacts in the Wave Scanner which are likely just materials - I'm getting through the POIs much, much quicker.

But I'm not sure if this is a good approach. I'm only scanning a tiny area, even if it does involve a lot of POIs. Even if I were to find something in that area, it's a little bit unsatisfying. "Keep scanning the same plot of land and eventually something will appear". I think I'll move on, if only for role-playing reasons! :)

Thanks :)

I had a lot of trouble locating it, and even being off by a few hundred meters in the dark means you cannot see it at all. If the Barnacles work in the same way as this crash site, and if they don't have lights - I cannot see a way to locate them in the dark. Hopefully there are a few Barnacles on planets with bright ambient light on the dark side.

Secondly has there been muhc if any research in to Peregrina (Ancient Spanish meaning the Pilgrim / Wanderer), 'Plague' system

As far as I know, this isolated system has been struck down by a mysterious plague that is spreading across inhabited space. We know very little of this virulent disease, other than it causes damage to machinery and electronics, eventually leading to malfunctions and mechanical failures.

I don't know if there's much happening at the moment, but it has been a "place of interest" for some time, for various reasons:

Interesting system description!
It has (I believe) the lowest price for selling UAs. By the rares-pricing model, that'd indicate it's near the source.
The name can mean wanderer, or also "foreign" or "alien".
The plague angle. The recent patch notes hint that the barnacles might be shipwrecks. If alien shipwrecks are to be found on Peregrina, they could have been the pathogen vector for the plague.
We've tried every other frickin' system in the galaxy.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm expecting barnacles to be visible while in flight, with no POI showing up.
If it helps anyone else, to help find what's inside a POI without having to land, I tend to fly at 2Km (not less) and when I see one approaching, I aim directly for its center. Be sure to adjust your scanner to max range (Page up / page down if not re-mapped). As I get closer, I drop to ~500m, doing my best to ensure I keep the same heading so as to not miss the center of the blue circle. I fly angled downward at slow speed, ensuring vertical thrusters keep me at the right altitude. when done correctly, I have found I can see the object (base, wreckage etc.) most of the time on the first pass, and almost always on the second pass. I have enough money not to care about the specific contents of the base / wreck / POI and for the moment I'm just hunting for barnacles.
The second approach I have been testing for non-POI is to rotate 180 degrees, stay at ~10km and look upward at the surface (in an ASP, there is almost nothing blocking the view). Have not found much yet well outside the bubble, but it worked within the bubble. Although there's no major progress, I'm monitoring the thread for other helpful hints. Good luck all!

This seems to be a bug.

I parked my ship right next to the Anaconda and logged out, on a few occasions when I logged in (in solo mode) the Anacnda wasn't there. If I logged out and changed to Open or Private it still wasn't there. Closing the game didn't fix this either.

I would have to simply wait an amount of time, and eventually when I logged in again it was back.

If this is a problem for other people, it may make things very difficult if it is also affect the Barnacles.

This would be very nice if someone is able to reproduce it and bug-report it. It may be a general instancing problem.
But please if someone does reproduce it, make sure you head over to the Bug reporting subforum and place a report there, pretty please.

Interesting to note this thread investigating the UA prices angle, long ago speculated the UA source was in the Galactic south. With all the interest in Merope & the Pleiades now, they were bang-on.

They also estimated the price at source would be 150K, so it'd be interesting to see if anyone has sold around that price. I don't see how they calculated that though.

Please oh pretty please dear gods above and below, please FD no more clues...

A great deal has already been unearthed by Cannon and I've enjoyed the ride, the red herrings and drama and all. Yes we're slow about it - but its a big verse out there. The clues I think have been pretty obvious, me thinks too easy; maybe FD think we're taking our pretty time about it.

Cool your boots, be seated, it'll pass... one day very soon someone WILL find one and we'll look back and think how obvious and everyone and their cat will have meta-alloys.

Take the ticket - enjoy the ride.

The non-persistent nature of items on the surface is getting really jarring. I logged out yesterday right next a small installation, logged back in today and it has disappeared.

Please oh pretty please dear gods above and below, please FD give out more clues, because if one of the methods to find this is on a moon and it's permanently placed on one we'll need it. I don't think you fully comprehend how large some of these are to explore.

Has anyone compiled all the "clues" somewhere? I don't remember seeing any...

If you want to manipulate constellations trying to match a viewpoint, try filtering your galaxy map by star type. The bright stars of the Pleiades are all type B and stick out like sore thumbs if you turn the rest off, so you can just rotate the map to get an idea.

Yeah...

Barnacle Facts
1. Are they in the Game? - They are in the game
2. What Region of space can they be found? - Can be found in the region of the Seven Sisters nebula (Pleiades). - or Likely to be found in or close to nebulae, specially the Pleiades
3. Where do they live? In the void of space or on a planet? – Planet
4. How will they appear? - Either a POI or a specific placed location.
5. How common are they? - They are exceedingly rare.
6. Has a player found a Barnacle? - No
7. Are they linked to the Meta-Alloys and Mission? – Yes
8. Do I need a Mission to find them? - No

Barnacle Unknowns
1. What do they look like?
2. Do they show up as a blue circle while flying over a planet?
3. Are they only found with a crashed ship?
4. Are they only in the nebula or could they be near it?
5. Are they only found in dark areas of a planet (Craters or Trenches)?
6. What star type will the planet orbit?
7. What type of planet do they ‘live’ on?
8. Do they prefer cold or hot worlds?
9. Does there need to be volcanism of any type?
10. Are they related to the Horizons trailer with the green glowing objects?
11. High G(Gravity) or Low G or any G?

Theory (s)

Barnacles are shown in the Horizons trailer
1. Video shows SRV on a 1G +/- 0.1 world
2. In a misty dark area
3. At a crashed ship site

'Shell' UA's Point to Merope

1. UA's all point to the main star - They could be related to Barnacles

Thanks for the clarification on that, I think I'll submit a bug report then if I'm not the only one experiencing it. This could really take the biscuit if people have gone right past where Barnacles are supposed to be and they've just failed to spawn (and I don't think anyone in this thread appreciates having their biscuits stolen!)
