UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Thanks for the input, but unfortunately your image does not really help, as I can´t identify any star on it.

If you want to help with the constellation research (which will be great!!) please make sure to identify at least one of the stars on it when you take an image from a different system. Otherwise, we can´t use it to triangulate the exact position.

Update on the Constellation research:

We are finishing building a 3d matrix that will help us to locate each star of the constellation. Once this is done it'll be a matter of time to find the exact system :).

I'm going to take a wild stab at this.

Using either HIP 18502 - (has icy moons like the picture) or its neighbor LC-V C2-1

1. Maia
2. Pleione
3. Merope
4. HR 1183
5. Caelano
6. HR 1172
7. Pleiades Sector GW-W C1-15 (famous for the airless water world)
8. HIP 17684
9. Atlas

Not perfect but close. I wanted to use systems that were mainly identifiable in real life so the GW-W system is the stretch here. Everything else more or less fits looking from the vantage point indicated.

Taking a break from barnacle hunting... This is a UA I recorded on jan 5. Sped up 500%.

Listen to the "purrs", which manifest themselves here as series of hi / lo notes. I'm not saying it's binary, but just for documentation sake, if low = 0 and high = 1, this is what I get. Some of the notes are difficult to distinguish because of the wail overlapping it:

I can't see any reference or idea from this, but i never decode anything in my life, good luck for anyone who try to solve.

OMG :D

This is hilarious! Obviously they took samples of whatever brass instrument that is and slowed it down to make that part of the UA sound but when sped back up it's like a whimsical silent comedy skit.

Can you try it with the opposite binaries? 1s as 0s and 0s as 1s.

So, after reading those again in sequence, i think maybe Merope isn't specifically the right location to find barnacles, but not the only place.

MB said that nebulae are good places to look especially the one with seven sisters. Note: He did not say exclusively.
Interesting point, agree.
Although the odds may be lower in other locations, it's may not be impossible to trigger them.
But POI being POI, it's not persistent, and that can quite frankly be a pain when coming to proving it if your in Solo.

ProTip: Don't fly in solo! If you need commanders confirming your finding, make sure you have a PG or Open session.
Keep in mind, POI (non-persistant ones) do despawn when you reconnect / jump out and back in.

Now think about how you would go about coding for the random ones... and ill come back to this in a second.

Remember MB said he would get someone to confirm they are in game. What do you think happened? He asked one of the devs or support people to check the barnicles were in game. What do you think they did? They probably just went, looked up the location of (one of, or the only) fixed placed ones, jumped in game, and check it was there, and reported back to MB that yup its there.

You may be right. Perhaps the team would be kind enough later to tell us whether they managed to produce their spawning using regular game mechanics.
Still, with thousands of commanders triggering POI we should eventually manage to increase our odds.
but staying near the location which has been indicated should also contribute to increasing the odds.

I do like your example with the pseudo-code. Great job explaining.

Anyone else finding the POIs indicator utterly useless ?? Need to be high to have them, but can't see crap from up there... All in Ultra/max ... loosing so much time on this and not finding crap....

If only the dawn pop up distance was higher, then maybe we could find that needle...

Just for documentation sake - UA on Merope 1A night side way down in a dark crater.

You know, if there was a system in the Pleiades in which UAs were appearing as SSSs, like they used to, then that system would immediately shoot to the top of my list of potential candidates for weird on-planet goings-on...

It might only be one or two. It might only be in proximity to the planet in question.

I think Operation Scour investigated as much as possible about Merope, including Signal Sources - but what about since Horizons and the Barnacle thing? Is there a planet in Merope around which UAs appear in SSS? If so, is that planet landable? If so, does the surface of that planet harbour the Barnacles?

When I head to Merope on Monday, I'm definitely going to be checking out any SSS I come across, I think. (Until I get beasted by a giant wing of pirates and run away at least!)

Could well be a dead-end, but if correct, then it won't take long to rule out, assuming the spawn rate of such SSS is similar to what it is in the shell.

Would also mean 1.5 CMDRs can join in for part of this.

Just a thought :)

One thing I notice here is the visual effect after each set. Its as if the probe is sending off the stream and waiting for a reply
