Hello CMDR's,
Today I want to talk about a subject that I have been pondering for quite some time now...
First of a caveat: When I 'you' I mean 'me and the average player'. I am not saying you are all bad players with the IQ of a bio-waste container!
Lets start by taking a look at one of the more interesting things we have in the game, Unknown Artefacts. They are great fun and as far as I can tell no-one hates them... (I know I will be proven wrong on this!).
The Cannon group have done and continue to do amazing research into these items, their origin's and their purpose. All of which is great for the story of Elite as it should/could lead to our old enemy the Thargoids. The work they have done is quite remarkable with FD not exactly making it easy for them.
Now we are in Season 2 and we have been told that this year we will find out more about the generation ships and what happened to them. No I suspect that FD will also make this a real puzzle which will take some time and brain power to uncover but in true community spirit there will be players who crack the mystery and uncover the locations of these deep space colonies/wreaks.
We also have the Billionaires treasure hunts which to be honest unless you have been on University Challenge you have little to no hope of solving. I watch the last one and still to this day I do not fully understand how people got these clues – Well done to those of you that did!
The first two points are, to me, part of the 'story' being told in this iteration of Elite, not so much the third and it is those I wish to now focus on...
For the majority of players that visit here or the forums they will get to find out about new discoveries/information/theories but what about those players who do not come here or to that other site?
Now that 'other' game (And I do not want the focus of this discussion to be about it either) has Squadron 42 to ease the player into the game and give them a story to work through. This sets the stage for the bigger 'open' game in the 100 or so systems available.
Question: Should Frontier consider having a hand crafted story mode to allow all players to uncover the 'story so far' so to speak?
As always keep it clean and have fun!
