General / Off-Topic Call for a system or planet to be called 'ZIGGY' as a memorial to David Bowie.

Yes please.

Or a station. "Stardust Orbital" sounds about right to me. A CG to collect and deliver a new rare "Mars Spider Eggs" should help get it built.

... Commanded by Major Tom

Seconded.

Another Rares proposal: "Funky Ashes"

And when the Dolphin ship comes out, it should be on discount there ("Heroes" reference).

PS. Can Stardust Orbital be a Rebel Rebel base? Please?

So, so many spacey references throughout his incredible career it would be remiss not to honour his memory.
Plus his son's utterly brilliant "Moon", what a legacy.

Station called Ziggy selling a rare called Stardust :)

Or if it was orbiting Mars it could sell spiders.

Or have a station on Mars called Life that sells Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars (OK, I'll shut up now)

I will miss DB :(

Well I am probably going to regret saying this but personally apart from one song, not going to miss the guy at all. Wall to wall coverage on BBC and SKY news seems a gross overreaction to someone who was hardly main stream and hardly in the top tier of public acceptance.

Always sad when someone dies but I think his elevation to the saint hood is premature.

Never regret anything, it is by what we say and do that we are defined.

That being said, best get yourself a flame-retardant suit, as I suspect a large number of the forumites may take umbrage with your comment.

Whilst David Bowie may not be to every-ones liking, there is no doubt that his was a singular talent in the music business, with a career lasting decades. He has fans both young and old in most corners in the developed world (and beyond), and from what I have gathered, was also a really nice bloke, all being said. Whilst you may not mourn his passing, many do, and as a fair amount of his work has a link to the theme of "space and stuff", then maybe a little corner of the vast game we play can be put aside in his memory.

As for the media coverage, this sort of thing always happens when someone famous dies, so it is nothing new.

Time takes a cigarette....

A man before his time. An innovator in music, fashion and thought. Larger than life itself and yet, he really enjoined playing to small crowds in little venues. Just jamming and living the moment.

I don't know about a station named after him; maybe a system full of his best sounds; or, maybe what we get to build our own stations, perhaps we can build our own tribute.

For someone who has managed to re-invent himself so many times; I would say that death, has just become, his final and possibly greatest persona.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I would rather his actual name was used rather than that of an alter ego, however Ziggy is inescapable. Even in death. David Bowie Orbital would be my vote but I would also be happy with a Ziggy one. Today is not a day for disputes.

Krash its not a gross overreaction. I dont think you are fully aware of his impact on popular music and the arts. If you are not then your post is understandable. He was a giant amongst other artists.

David Bowie was a legend and I don't say that lightly, his influence, innovation and style on music was and will continue to be felt for a long time. How can we not have a station named after the man who wrote such classics as Starman, Space Oddity and Life On Mars to name just a few.
It's a sad day indeed, there are not many legends left alive. All I can say is RIP David Bowie, a true legend, your music will live on and on and on.

He always spoke well of you... :p
