heading to KN Muscae now to see if the mist is replicated for me, worth a go I guess

I will also try to go to KN Muscae to check it as soon as possible.

Thanks to both of you CMDRs! Your name will be remembered... :D

It's the same galaxy on the Xbox One as PC and Mac.

So does that mean there are no Barnacles in the Xbox Version however meta alloys are. I don't think I have seen anywhere in Mr Brookes comments so far that have confirmed they are ONLY found on planets. He has only said you can't find them in orbital cruise height. I smell a rat. His clues had led us to believe they are planetside but I think we have misjudged his comments to assume they are planetside. I repeat, Mr Brookes has never said they are planet based. We did.

You should check MB comments better then ;)
He explicitly said Meta-Alloys will be found in Horizons only. Check MB comments in the OP.

Whats a good way to confirm that?
Check the distance from Maia? Or see if Wolfram Alpha knows it.

Edit: it's ~660 Ly from Atlas, so probably out of reach. Then again, he said 'nebulae' (or however the plural is writting) so who knows if there might not be some anyways, or the Witch Hat or Coal Sack for that matter.

Horizons is the Update Riz, that does not conclude that this search must involve planets is all I am saying. I am not trying to disagree, but he has been very very carefull with his words. That worries me even more. He is the puppeteer and we are his puppets after all.

Getting a little frustrated at the moment. Not on the search but on people's behaviour when they burn out.

If your mindset turns into ''well I'm fed up. I'm just going to look at the code/complain that it should have been done differently'' then all I have to say to you is;

I'm sorry you're not enjoying it but not all the content in this game is for everyone. I personally cannot stand trading but I wouldn't want it changed, at all, for those that do.
At the same time, I love looking for these things. Just flying through space and over hills of interesting planets, getting some fantastic screenshots and sights to see.
That is something some people, including myself, DO enjoy. It is not boring to us, it is not pointless or bad game design to us.

My final thought on the matter is; even *if* you were to find alternative methods to locate these, other than the in-game ones and MB's hints, then it still wouldn't advance to story. It wouldn't achieve anything. It's just a reaction born from impatience. ''I want to see one NOW!'', yet you don't realise that you'll grow bored and go and do something else once you do, as they won't immediately add anything to the game. Same as UAs inherently don't at the moment, other than mystery and discussion.

If you are growing board of the search. Go back to the bubble. Dock up in Maia and do CQC for a bit. Do something else to refresh your vigour then come back and help us.

I suspect it means that they can only be acquired on planets, but the commodity can be dropped as cargo/stolen/sold by anyone. Effectively, Horizons players can pass on the meta alloys to non-Horizons players.

Thinking about going to the california nebula to look for barnacles. Who's game?
I've just been there a few days ago. Didn't find anything, but lots of gold that I had to drag back to Obsidian. But of course me not finding anything doesn't mean much. After all, I can hardly cover all the available ground.

There's a planetary nebula on the way there, but nothing there to land on. But it's a pretty sight you should pick up if you choose to go.

Think we're not searching all possibilities given the hints, we know that they're somewhere in The Pleiades and the seven sisters were mentioned. The sisters don't all appear to be getting looked at, these are all part of the reflection nebula and are listed below.

I'll be trying Electra next.

Maia, sterope, celaeno, Alcyone, Merope, Taygeta, Electra

Lets gets these checks intrepid explorers!

On the lore side of things which I think is a bit lacking...

We have this reference to the interstellar explorers naming these thing's "Large barnacles" from the in game Meta alloy description:

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Meta-alloys

Maybe we could have an account of these pioneer's experiences in a way that would give some measured guidance to the community.

I don't think it's FD's intention that we should have to resort to the intricacies of the game mechanics to move this story forward, but i do appreciate that that is part of the fun for many.

Yes, one type of them (i think it was Y-Class) is not so common. You can check the map using the filters...

The Galmap only filters by the primary star doesn't it? Brown dwarves are fairly rare as primaries but they're quite common in binary (and higher count) systems. They're also not unusual as satellites of other stars; I've seen systems where a class O or B has several brown dwarf satellites (think I've seen one with more than 5).

Someone posted a while back about a mission log that might have been a code, talking about seats at a stadium or something. Not finding it again. Anyone have a link? We have any hint that it might be related to the search?

No, but the mission description for the "get meta-alloys" mission says they are found on planets.

I'm honestly a bit amazed that with all of the commanders spending so much time focused on finding these things, that even still, not one commander has found ... well, anything at all. Nota, zilch, bumpkis, even with all of this incredible effort. I know I've personally searched hundreds of POI's over the past week.

Is it possilbe that FDev has simply made these things TOO hard to find, maybe a little bit too rare?
