UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

I have Seen a few People posting that they are going to check out Celaeno and Sterope. I would not bother going to them, below is a quote from a post I made about forty pages back.

Out of Ten Systems, Four can be ruled out because they do not have any planets or any planets that you can land on.

Systems that have been ruled out: Alcyone, Asterope, Celaeno and Sterope
Systems that have Planets you can land on: Atlas(4), Electra(3), Maia(25), Merope(13), Taygeta(11) and Pleione(21)
The number in Parenthesis is the number of planets in that system you can land on.

My plan is to start at system with the lowest amount of planets you can land on and then go to the system with the next highest ect. ect, and try to add
some form of method to the madness the Developers have unleashed.

That could explain the "mist" and the rarity of the geysers might correlate to rarity of the barnacles? Would also tie up all the liquid required for barnacle posts. Or space madness Idk

Commanders
I have twice gone to pick up fresh ua's, listened to them, then take them to merope and listen, and there seems to be a new sound in merope. A sort of grinding slow pulsation like a wave. I would like it if some hardcore UA fanboys could help confirm this. I understand it "chitters" the morse, and has a high pitch that increases with UA damage. Is this correct? Trying to confirm this is a new sound but I still need to do a lot more recording and studying.
Here is a link to the audacity files of outside merope and in system http://tinypic.com/r/azgoo/9

Please have a look and let me know how bad my space madness is.

I believe what you're looking at there is what we've called "purrs" they come in high/low patterns. When sped up they sound like a brass instrument (trombone). We've tried turning the high/low into binary to retrieve a message, but nothing has come of it.

sorry for the distraction. i just feel like we should all have a little bit of fun. being business only all the time will fry your brain.

having said that, michaels post agreeing that the UA pointing to merope doesn't necessarily mean they are hand placed in merope has blow my mind and my assumptions sky high. i need to come up with a new method of search.

happy hunting. back to work for me. see you all in the verse in a few hours.

Do we know what the different mist colors mean? I'm on a planet with yellow mist right now but I've seen red and green mist on other planets... does one have more organic compounds than another?

Hello... I am new to this thread, so I don't know if this has already been discussed (probably has) but have you guys ever tried to listening to black holes? I just came across this by accident and decided I had to record it. The sounds are eerily similar to those of Unknown Artifacts don't you think? This is a black hole from the NGC 7822 Nebula. Check this out.

So, this is nothing then? :(

No but they also morse the names of stars and planets (our names for them) and there's no reason for Nav Beacons to have the names of Stars that are completely uninhabited. Chances are they have knowledge of humans either through past involvement or careful monitoring.

I think so. They'd know the names of inhabited stars from listening to and parroting the nav beacons. And if they knew the name of an uninhabited system they could infer the names of all the bodies in that system since I believe they're named in a deterministic manner. But they'd have no way of knowing/inferring the names of uninhabited systems, nor the "hand named" planets, without eavesdropping on various signals outside the scope of the current game... or capturing a ship given every ship seems to have a complete galactic system map as standard.

thats kind of interesting. Some people at canonn and i were talking about how if you have the UA on any given planet it gives off pulses of colors in a shockwave pattern at slow intervuls. the only colors we have seen so far are green red and yellow..

So FD and MB: ??
how many of you are there out there tonight?, munching on snacks and following the thread, having a jolly good time watching us poor sods figure this thing out. Surely there's more than just 1, perhaps some 3D artist alt-tabbing from his 3DSMAX 2011, or a few of the coders lurking in between a bout of rocket league.
What's it pizza or curry tonite ? and are we on the big screen?

Having watched the thread for ages I feel we are all wasting our time. It is all determined by a keystroke/mouse click somewhere in sunny Cambridge. Once a dead end is reached they drip feed another clue. There will be more to come in 2.1, a bit more in 2.2 until 2.aliens... But do keep going, it helps kill time at work! Wish I had the time..

30 pages to sort through from last night. Better drink some caffeine and get started....
Only! 30!!! I'm 40 pages behind, just from the day in the office, and I caught up on the train on the way there this morning. Thank god we aren't just adding random crud to this for others to read..... erm...

Re: "obvious when you think about it" explanation for Barnacles being in Nebulae:

Barnacles are filter feeders so this might suggest that the in-game Barnacles "live" by/for filtering the gasses of the Nebula itself since they are found on air-less planets.

If so, does this give us any clue as to their most likely locations? Perhaps on the outer-most planets of a system?

Well yes, if they were sent the order or our letters then they would indeed have the order. But now you need a good reason for someone doing that. It's not really a solution.

Anyway, all I wanted to say was that if they don't have a *very* good reason for using our language it'll be a real annoyance.

I'm not implying they were deliberately sent our alphabet, but human systems must have been leaking out billions of radio signals and a full Morse alphabet is likely to be among them. A Nav beacon booting up might well send that as a test signal. But you're right, that'll all incidental.

I agree though, I hope there's a plausible reason for the Morse, something better than "that's the only thing the players would figure out".
