When you log on and find dozens of pages to read to catch up, I suggest to take a look at the Front Page, as I'm always updating it, if something relevant happens.

*****************ALERT******************
IF SOMEONE FINDS A BARNACLE, PLEASE PM ME
****************************************

It could be easier for me to update the FrontPage immediately, as I have to catch up the same as you, sometimes ;)

Thanks.

We'll be in touch soon, I can feel it. I dont care if Im not in Pleiades, Im going to find this damn thing soon!

I will laugh immensely if the crashes are relating to the game trying to load a non-existent file of sorts, and MB's post of 'they should appear in the game' is purely based on looking at encounter types and where they should spawn and the conditions that they spawn, but actually getting to those breaks something, or it was tested in a Dev environment.

Weird sounds in a POI in Merope, some of them sound like a UA

Man, @6:44 sure sounds like something growing out of the ground to me. This whole time I have been searching, I've had music or netflix going. Next round Im going full headphones, full blast. Possible that they can be heard before being seen? Will take some recordings. If I do luck out and hear that same noise, I plan on dropping a UA out to see if maybe it sings to them.

I agree, but unfortunately I was apparently suffering under the misaprehension that the release trailer was game-based & provided us some clues!

ya. Personally I don't think anything can be gleaned from the trailer, unfortunately, other than what the barnacles may look like. I also don't think Greek mythology will play into the barnacle/UA/meta-alloy story (though it has been part of the Jeffress treasure hunts which are really the only thing that has required the use of outside assets such as wikipedia).

??? One of us has missed the others point I feel. If you mean what I think you mean then it has been very much hinted/as good as confirmed that they are in other nebulae as well, planetary nebula are REALLY SMALL which is why they would be good to search, the only I'm heading towards apparently only has one landable planet so if they are in all nebulae or all within a certain distance and this is within that distance then there will only be one planet to search, instead of the I don't even know how many in the Pleiades.

If you're looking for barnacles in random POIs then it probably doesn't matter as presumably the chance per POI is fixed. I.e. if there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of a POI being a barnacle then looking for POIs in a small planetary nebula is no better than looking for POIs in any system in the Pleiades (assuming that the rates of POIs are the same).

If you're looking for barnacles in fixed POIs then a small planetary nebula would be better provided you knew for sure that a fixed POI existed there. But we don't know that. Michael has only said that the Pleiades contains at least one fixed barnacle, he's has not said that all nebulae contain fixed POIs.

Because he's essentially saying "yes the UA's aren't connected to the Barnacles" which means the only logical reasoning we had in the first place for looking at the Pleiades for Barnacles was wrong.

No. We're looking in the Pleiades because Michael specifically said they can be found in the Pleiades and then latter clarified that there are fixed POIs with barnacles there. The only thing that has changed with the latest clarification is that he's confirmed that Merope is not special for barnacles (and thereby implied that Merope may not contain a fixed POI). But plenty of people were already searching other Pleiades systems and presumably Merope will still generate random POIs containing barnacles as often as any other nebula system.

Well, if they are related, id imagine:
1) Its only in relation to the randomly spawning ones. If they were the static locations, crashing wouldn't make a difference in the long run. However when you crash and reload, those random POIs despawn (my assumption for this ate least)
2) If they are causing the crashing, it'll be fixed very quietly and blamed on tea.

If anything, after a game crash, you could fly back out 100KM and back in a 100KM and hope to reproduce the same issue. If its static locations crashing people, they might not appear once youre within the 'spawn bubble' since that initial condition check was run and failed. The 'loading into game' condition check might be different

Great, we have a griefer, Cmdr [EDITED](*), shooting everyone trying to get in or out of Obsidian Orbital. Cmdrs beware.

Fantastic. Thanks to this D1ckh34d I now don't have enough credits to rebuy my ship if I get shot down again by him or some other idiot. Plus I've lost a hold full of cargo and quite a bit of exploration data.

Some people should get a life.

(*)Edit: Removed the griefer's name so as to comply with the "no naming and shaming" rule... Apologies to all, Elite is the first MMO I've played so I'm just now becoming familiar with the etiquette involved in dealing with those that can seemingly only have fun by ruining the gaming experience of others. Reading about the reasons for not naming and shaming, though, they do make sense. So I'll keep them in mind from now on. Fly safe cmdrs.

Multiple people mentioned that sound but don't realize it is the sound of his windows freezing over. He just turned off his modules and is at 10% heat.

There a number of them, if you try to get in through slot they will fly out to you push you back out, if you make it inside they shoot at you from inside as well.

Hey guys so as you might know I'm in an exploration trip for my elite rank and I'm in the cats paw nebula right now . If you need any systems to be investigated there for the barnacles please inform lord zoltan or commander netslayer and they will inform me and I will explore them ; I think since the barnacles are so rare we need to search every single nebula we can to increase the odds :)

So I'm fairly new at this, and maybe I'm an idiot, but I just plopped down on Merope 5C and got sort of pointed off in a direction and went. I got a hit on the scanner from a huge distance that I didn't recognize and went after it, and found an empty crash site. Definitely nothing there, but I'm just really confused. Can anyone help me out?

Wave Scanner: http://i.imgur.com/MMvutzq.jpg

makes a noise like a Mesosiderite I have some videos if this isn't me just being dumb and not knowing something super common.

Thankfully my Cobra is manoeuvrable enough to easily slip through their attempted blockade and fast enough to boost away on departure. Though some guy in an Anaconda called me a coward over comms... but then that's easy to say for a guy in an Anaconda talking to a guy in a Cobra kitted out for exploration !

I guess some people think the only way to play the game is to have shoot outs with everyone!

I know the focus is largely on Pleades since M.B indicated that some were purposed placed there, but in regards to searching other regions of space (i.e. other nebula), what are the cahnces of being able to find barnacles in ALL other nebula, just hard to find in each? If this is the case, I've looked over the list of nebula and found that the "IRIS" nebula only has three systems in it. I have not yet visited these systems, but perhaps there are only a small handful of landable planets. The random log entry also has an eye in the top left: https://i.imgur.com/7Hl7i9R.jpg (faction etc I know, but hey.. ). I am heading off there now. If anone has system data they can provide before I waste much time it's appreciated.

Has anyone ever noticed that when you go into one of those base POIs.... when you go to scan the Data point.... it actually extends upwards? What if that's what those pillars in the trailer do? Just throwing that out there.

thats what I wrote 2 or 3 posts. Ago so yea I agree

Warning: Commander in an Anaconda attempted to ram me to death on Obsidian orbital.

Dargcax or something like that. Stay careful and fly safe.

I think you'll notice one if you're nearby.

And to those asking why nebulae - it's quite logical if you think about it :)

Michael

Greetings all, not sure if this has been discussed yet but upon reading the quotes from MB I started looking into planetary Nebulae and came across this:

Planetary nebulae usually contain larger proportions of elements such as carbon, nitrogen and oxygen, and these are recycled into the interstellar medium via these powerful winds. In turn, planetary nebulae greatly enrich the Milky Way and their nebulae with these heavier elements – collectively known by astronomers as metals and specifically referred to by the metallicity parameter Z

I'm assuming the elements mentioned are a reason as to why barnacles are supposedly in Nebulae? Thoughts?

Yeah - thanks to Esufer for this update (he got smashed out of the blue for 9M rebuy)

There's this on Reddit: https://t.co/WAKYkbaWjs

'A message from the Smiling Dog Crew Regarding the Blockade of Maia'

Sigh.

Drop to Private Groups or even Solo, CMDRS. Or just stay away from Obsidian.

Or, find some tooled up friends.

And remember - don't name and shame :)

You can split the wave scanner in half - bottom half is natural objects, top half is man-made stuff.
Your wave scan is a cargo canister - but not gold
