UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Small heads up on the heat spikes I encountered in my Asp flying around on Maia A 7. I have gotten it twice again this morning and am certain it is some combination of flying the asp upside down in the high g field when I max out fwd thrust.
Even slow descend then can trigger a near catastrophic meltdown. Be advised the asp seems weirdly prone to this when you fly it with topside facing the planet.

The upper thrusters seem to be weaker on the Asp. Do Not try inverted flight on a high g world you will become part of the scenery

Can confirm. I think its in the range of .7 to .8G that the top ASP thrusters (Explorer at least) fail to sustain inverted flight.

I think it's becoming increasingly obvious that barnacles are not present on the planets we see in the system map. We've searched most of the obvious locations, and Michael has said we are bound to find them if we are in the right location

I know there are some people looking for 'hidden' planets, and I'm reminded of those reports where people following medical convoys dropped out of SC in front of a planet they had not expected to be there.

The barnacles thing is obviously a big step forward in the story, and given the highly devious nature of the clues (eg the morse) we have had to solve previously, I don't imagine that FDev is bent on making things easy by putting them anywhere too obvious (quite apart from the thought the barnacles or their controllers may have no wish to be discovered)

How do you set about finding a hidden planet? What's all this parallax stuff?

I've been looking for the barnacle for days on my own in mainly two locations, the Pleiades and Barnard's loop (Flame, Running Man, Horses nebula).
I obviously did not search every single "landable" planets but I did what I could.
Today I was with two others commanders, (Nosscar and Qianas) in a wing searching in the Pleiades.

It was so much fun to do it in a Wing at the same location with both SRVs and Ships.
Granted, it was probably not the most efficient way to do it but it was so much fun ! :)
Sadly, I never had that much crash to desktop in one session since... Well, since a good while.
The "funny" thing is that we all had CTD at some point. Each time one of us had his CTD while approaching a bleu circle POI.

I know FDev is most certainly working on fixing this issue.
I just which we had more clues to know where to look with more accuracy. :)

Fly safe Explorers, because now, we all know that we seems to be a very attractive Space Duck to shoot at, for some bad guys out there. ;)

Any idea what this is, not sure I've seen it before; there's nothing here except tea, but it was clearly visible in the air (not orbital)?

Pleioine 11 is an odd planet. A water atmosphere with an atmospheric pressure 815,000 times stronger the Earths. More bizarrely is the fact its over 2000K and nowhere near a star.

Also, we're mining the crap out of its moons. Mines and Tea factories at every POI.

I haven't really seen a place that looks anywhere near as foggy as the shot in the trailer at least not in the Pleiades, that looks almost as thick as Ariel

These are top secret tea facilities. They are often guarded by highly protective sentries.
ninja'd. Found some of these too. Actually you can within the parameter violation time drive trough the installation and grab the tea. (it's not only tea, btw.) ;)

After around 30 hours checking assorted planets, equators, poles, mountain tops and craters Im out of time and setting off to join the start of the DW expedition. Good luck in the hunt commanders!

I'm not entirely sure how pertinent any of the following will be to the overall conundrum (finding these bloody barnacles) and really it's only been a passing curiosity on my part (something to ponder while i'm wandering about with somewhat les insight, direction or cleverness than the average explorer) but do any others find that weather by virtue of the RP aspect or perhaps in some convoluted mechanics theory that the fact that the Maia system, despite being (to my knowledge) populated for the sole purpose of establishing a base of operations for the exploration of this latest quandary, is governed by a/the Mob? (Ant Hill Mob to be precise). Perhaps after being ousted by the feds, it was the only group that the egg-head (can'ne remember his name at the moment) could convince to finance/ provide the gargantuan logistical support required to establish a new station. Even so, given that this is intended to be one of the most significant discoveries of the century I have serious doubts as to the ethical and or moral implications of allowing a crime syndicate to spearhead this operation. Perhaps from a technical standpoint, giving the base over to a mob was the only way to ensure the surrounding system remained independent/anarchy for gameplay reasons. While I agree that the base itself and surrounding system should remain an independent venture, especially if our labors should eventually bare fruit but perhaps there is a better choice than the mob? Perhaps one of the other factions currently struggling for a foothold would provide some sort of station defense, at the very least, in order to mitigate the 'blockade situation'? I understand it's meant to be a simple research facility but if the barnacles are here, this system and surrounding aria is going to EXPLODE with commerce, industry and every galactic power vying for control. And if our venture is indeed intended for the benefit of humanity as a whole, it's important to ensure that it is presented in as ethical and unbiased a manner as possible.

I suppose what it all boils down to is: Does it significantly bother anyone that the system is governed by the mob? Has there been proposed an effort to replace the Ant Hill Mob as the governing agency? Would this change in management adversely affect the larger task at hand? (finding the barnacles) ... and venturing into the even more obscure: Has it been pondered that the Ant Hill Mob may be subverting our efforts in some manner (weather directly or indirectly)? They do have a ground post already established on Maia B 1 D... mayhap they know something we don't? (tho i'm sure that particular avenue has already been explored to death)

Still catching up on the thread since I took a short nap (slow down guys). When I woke up it suddenly struck me why nebulas...

They're dusty and they obscure what's inside them. If you wanted to put something somewhere that would make it hard for someone to spot it, why not put it in a big space cloud to hide it from prying eyes?

I can already read the responses claiming that it's silly because nebula stick out like sore thumbs on the galmap. But you're thinking about it as someone from outside the game. Though to us as players nebulae are nice places to visit and look at they're still basically features that obscure what's inside them (other than certain bright stars).
