Rail Gun ammo, is it too low?

Can someone help me understand why both cannons and PAs now have 105 total ammo while rail guns keep the measly 31? Is there any sort of reason for this?

You can always synthesise more without having to dock.
A pair of Imperial Hammers with premium ammo is a blast, even if it does take two days to collect enough materials for a reload.

Did I mention the railgun would be overpowering if you had unlimited ammunition?

I think having railgun ammo at either 40 or 45 would make more sense. Having it at 30 is really far too limiting. Against hull-tanking builds, you can easily hit every shot and run out of ammo far before you do lethal damage.

Synthesis is just inadequate for ammo purposes as there is no way to effectively gather materials.

It used to be about right but I think with the changes to hull penetration if anything the ammo count needs to go up a little. I run 4x C2 rails on my ship, and even with everything hitting the mark it takes about 5 or more hits to kill a Cobra mk3. That's quite a lot really - soon eats into your reserves.

This. This x100. After the HRP buffs 30 rail shots just isn't enough anymore.

Of course the ammo count is too low. Also missiles are useless, and by extension point defense. It is also completely ridiculous that there is no way to store extra ammo on your ship in either ammo racks or general cargo space.
But don't worry, all this will get fixed before we get out of beta.

Yes, it's too low. It needs to be at least the same as PA ammo. But anything over 60 would be welcome. The ammo just makes rail guns non viable except for sparse use.

Promise Ydiss, i am not stalking you, but agree with you again. But also in this 'give us more please plea', don't forget my Fav weapon on the FDL "Frag Cannons"

Not that I wouldn't like more ammo in the rail guns
once you find a planet with Vanadium you can gather quite a few reloads given irons ubiquious nature

Without wishing to go off topic too much as this thread is about Rails, but sir you are right, but remember they fire in 3! So divide 90/3 =30 shots!! So Same boat as Rails!

Because...

Really though. With all the changes to hull reinforcement and shield cells, railguns have gone the way of the missile. You pretty much use them for the sound effects and pretty light show. I would drink to 100 ammo and a C3/C4 version for 2.1..... I would drink anyways but here's hoping!

Never found a planet with Vanadium. :(

I think the rail gun does need some major drawbacks otherwise it would be over powered. I agree though, with the current ammo it's only really good for one engagement, making it useful for assassination and not much else. I'd like to see it increased to PA levels of ammo so you can do 15-30 mins of bounty hunting before returning to base.
