UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Conspiracy theory time!
The barnacles did not cause the "Caine Massey" Anaconda to crash: instead, the ship crashed due to human error while it was seeding the planet with barnacles.
The cargo racks loaded with rare materials? Those were meant to be used as fertilizer for the barnacles. The C on the shells? A logo.
Why are they planting barnacles? Why, to do what the commanders are already doing: farm the seeds for rare materials and especially the meta-alloys.
Watch out if the stuff needed to "cure" UA-infected stations will be linked to Caine Massey as well.

None for weeks, than a strange server crash yesterday and now we have got 3 of them?????
Sounds very strange

Very thing I said when they went down ... essentially they could have been bugged or spawning below the ground (not visible)... haha.. of course, they'd never admit if it was. As they'd get a BIG earful from the player community due to all the hours spent. In any case... looks like these things are going to be somewhat more common (?)

Okay, it seems to get more mysterious - or I am just halucinating, or it doesn't have to do with anything at all...

Entering an SSS - the one that used to have the gold and then a swarm of vultures appears and so on - I found this:

Attacking ships were there as well.

Is that new? Worth further investigations?
...
I've found one of these back during the original 1.2 hunt for UAs. They are really rare, but not much can be ascertained from a generic cargo container.

So I'm stuck above the barnacle in JC-U.

Thrusters are inactive, still at 100% integrity though.

Popped up to see if I could spot the anaconda from a distance, looked away for a second and heard my thrusters cut. http://twitch.tv/hobonerz

I'M PUTTING IN ANOTHER DISTRESS CALL! NEED HELP!

Try pitching. I've had this happen before where thrusters didn't work, pitch up and then throttle up. Once you get off the ground the thrusters should begin to work again.

Unfortunately, no.
Dropped canisters of tea on it - nothing.

But wild SRVs quickly grabbed all the tea.

Just fyi, it shows for me in Mobius, Solo and Open. So far without fail.

There's some weird bug where it's like the servers/client don't send the static POI data sometimes.

I had it for a bit, shutdown client restart all ok.

can't help but have it in the back of my mind.

Also they are very hard to spot above 2.5km, and that's maxed settings

I post for Cmd Sheptor who hasn't an account here.

founded another barnacle, 23al away from maia, coordinates matches the news from galnet :
b?n?r? ??a??t L??: 2?.?? ??n?: 9?.??
binary planet Lat: 21.?? Long: 96.??

Do you think this is related to the unidentified signal ?

I have a hunch this is a type of alien fungus. Reproduces via spores. Now something has been triggered that causes them all to grow. And rapidly they do. :D

Aye, three weeks from now and another 4 UA threads later we are all going to be moaning about there being too many barnacles after the umpteenth station gets swallowed up by crustaceanous growths :D

Yeah I really doubt it's a coincidence that everyone is finding them today.

I can't be bothered to go back through the thread to see who made the discovery but a huge, HUGE congratulations to the commander who discovered the Barnacle. I'm logging in right now to go and have a look myself, now that work is over.

I also love that Meta-alloys are the answer to repairing the broken stations. I will definitely be ferrying some back and forth to help with the repairs at Obsidian.

Have we discovered the criteria for Barnacle discovery?
