Alright MB

If you are still paying attention....I know you can't give out much clues about the origins or what not, but can you at least say whether or not they are in other Nebula, or is it just the Pleiades?

He has already stated they are in nebulae, check Riz's first page MB quotes :D

This post is for the people that are headed out to a know Barnacle. I made a quick and dirty Overlay pic in Ms Paint to show the difference between the organic structures that drop materials for synthesis and the ones that drop Meta-Alloys

(The ones with the arrows pointing down, are the ones that drop Meta-Alloys. They have a large green pod attached to them, one of two of these pods is circled in red. all other organic structures drop materials for synthesis)

I know I shouldn't complain about the things not loading, but I can't help but be extremely disappointed that I've potentially spent many tens/hundreds of hours looking for something that doesn't exist.

If you're going to pull something like this you could at least make sure it's working before you do.
I actually share your frustration. Some of us suspected there were issues with crashes or barnacles not loading when they should or other bugs or technical issues. Asked about it several times, and got no response. I understand that complex software has bugs - I really do. I'm a programmer myself. It's just hard not to get frustrated by things like this.

TL;DR: Barnacles are a type of bio-mechanical beacon seeded onto planets habitable by an alien species.

Alright, so this is me coming in after getting in a little deep on a game about sentient goo, mixed with reading up on the past few tens of pages of this thread so I can mull over some things. Admittedly, I can only theorycraft based on what I read here and elsewhere as I myself don't have Horizons (yet).

I will assume that barnacles are indeed manufactured living organisms with similar structure to the crustaceans we find on Earth.

Has anyone extended the theory that the Barnacles are the result of 'seed-probes' sent out by an alien species to find worlds habitable for them? Barnacles appear to be standardized in appearance and functionality; they gather materials into one place so that they can be gathered for use by the aliens in construction (with the added side-effect of possibly using certain minerals as food).

The Barnacles are known to correlate with UAs and emit strange whalecall-like sounds, could this be a beacon signal by the barnacles, telling their masters that a habitable planet has been found? Further, when harvested through unintended means (breaking the stalks with weaponry), the barnacles emit stronger 'angry whale' sounds, possibly signalling to their masters that there is a possible hostile presence in the systems.

That's all I've got for now.

Pst, hey boys, I've heard you like THEORIES

Alright, considering the growth of the spikes, the size of the little green seeds and the fact that the biggest spike have meta alloys on them, I'm guessing that the small spikes mine materials and as they grow, they refine and assemble those materials to end up with meta-alloys.

Ok last thought and/or crazy theory before hitting bed... If and I repeat if the symbol is linked to Barnard's Loop, what about bringing some UAs there? At the end they were pointing to Merope, maybe they will point somewhere else if they get close enough...

Oh well.. nevermind then... not liken the loadout anyway. Mayhap i'll just get back to what I was up to before the whole barnacle thing broke out... adventure tourism!

Space: the final frontier... for cocktails! :D

PROBLEM SOLVED:

Apparently I just had to KEEP qutting to desktop, reloading the game, going into solo, quit again, reload again, solo again, quit again again etc etc

I have finally got a Barnacle spawn in Solo. Thanks guys!

On the first page it is the one listed as Barnacle #1

I will bug report it though. Thank you :)

I now have the same issue as you. Barnacle there in open, not in Solo.

Did you lodge that ticket? If so, got a link? :)

Yup. Very similar to UAs.. will need to be analyzed. If you're in-game, come visit one! Add me to your wing.

My post is getting buried quickly - but I wouldn't head to the original find location -the blockade has moved over there. I lost an ASP when I switch from Solo to Open to see the barnacle.

I read that post as well, but like someone said below, one of his more recent ones sounded like it was only to be found in one not many :)

Just want to make sure my journey to barnards or orion wont be wasted because i'm only going for barney's

I don't know who to credit on here, but I did find this on the tube.
They sound pretty eerie.
