UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

We found the barnacles. A lot of them.

We became crazy. We rammed them. We shot them. We offered drugs to them. They give some materials, also meta alloys.

We are still crazy about them.

God bless the barnacles!

I don't know if this has already been reported or not. I had a mission to find meta-alloy for 400k credits. When I scooped one the mission disappeared and I had a notification mission to take it to Bokeili Landing in the Daraj system for the system authority instead. I accepted the mission and brought the meta-alloy to Bokeili Landing (Owned by Daraj Energy Corp.) for 900k credits. I then received a followup mission to go kill the people who gave me the first mission. I killed a type9 with 2 sidewinder escorts and just handed it in the mission for 4.6Mil. Total of 5.5mil for the entire run.

Is anyone else being directed to bring their meta-alloy to Daraj Energy Corp?

Hm! I chose the wrong weekend to work 12-hour shifts in, and also the wrong day to go hunt for Earth-likes for the Colony Project. I'll have to catch up later. :)

Probably permanent as we found all those earlier.

Found 5 separate spawns on Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 2 in a crater. Maybe a couple hundred meters away from each other. Here's the coordinates:
Spawn 1 = 49.9888 x 101.5062
Spawn 2 = 49.7372 x 102.1423
Spawn 3 = 49.5346 x 102.0719
Spawn 4 = 49.9100 x 102.7269
Spawn 5 = 49.0645 x 102.9341
Don't know if they're static but interesting to find so many

Probably permanent as we found those earlier today.

Pst, hey boys, I've heard you like THEORIES

Alright, considering the growth of the spikes, the size of the little green seeds and the fact that the biggest spike have meta alloys on them, I'm guessing that the small spikes mine materials and as they grow, they refine and assemble those materials to end up with meta-alloys.

Yup, that's my thinking too.

The spikes are a wonderful mashup of visual design elements : texture like mussels growing on a worn pier support -

- but when you see the 'mussels' up close, they're not sea creatures at all, they're fruits!
The 'unripe' ones look like cocoa pods growing from a tree trunk, but as they ripen, they look more like cape gooseberries (physalis) wating to open.

The skin of the pod is more like snakeskin though - not unlike the salak fruit in fact -

It's clear the metal-bearing pods ripen as the 'tree' grows, and the ripe pod contains meta-alloys.

Which leaves the barnacle - what is its purpose?
I believe it's a combination of hopper and control centre. First, the barnacle is planted, then it causes trees to sprout around it. The trees mine metals, refine them, then combine them in the fruit pods.

Finally, the barnacle collects the ripe meta-alloy fruits and stores them in the armoured central structure, waiting for the farmer to return and collect the harvest.

DAMMIT

I had just gone to sleep when it happened ;_;

Anyone care to fill me in on whats happened?

Long story short, about 10ish hours ago a french streamer found a barnacle on merope 5c. Shortly there after the galnet article talking about a strange signal being received by Obsidian Orbital popped up which in it had a hint to the next barnacle(s) location(s). Within an hour of searching for the system in question it was found and the 2nd barnacle was found close to a crashed anaconda. On that planet (pleiades sector JCU b3-2 planet 1) a crap ton of barnacles have been found. At least 7 or so but I lost count. I am unsure if anyone has found another one in merope 5c but if they have it was close to the first one. To my knowledge no other barnacles have been found on any planet except those two and no new galnet posts have popped up (though one might tomorrow?).

There are spikes around the barnacle which when shot give materials and occasionally meta-alloys which look like some kind of green bud. The persistent barnacles appear in both solo and open but there are some bugs related to it.

Riz has some of the barnacle locations posted at the front of the post, GO SEE ONE :D. They are neat. Then we can resume the tinfoilery.

Oh and heres an up close barnacle picture in case you missed the others. I didn't take this one but my shots are crappier and I haven't changed the formatting on them yet.

Avoid Merope 5C its a bit of a bloodbath at the moment, the new sport apperas to be kill as many SRV's as you can, or blow up ships as SRV's leave before they get chance to dismiss their ship.

None of the barnacles appear to be respawning in solo or group mode at the moment, and as soon as you drop into open A student from Hogwarts school of magic is sat above the barnacles in a wing waiting to have is idea of fun.

Just you wait, they're going to start producing thargoid copies of all the ships the UA's have scanned.

I'd love to see a Thargoid Cobra Mk.III now featuring more speed, more range and more guns!

Yes.
