UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Have all the barnacles been found on sandy spots relatively far away from their stars.

I know the Merope 5C one is but whatabout the other ones?

Take a look at the second post of this thread...

The other system, Pleiades Sector JC-U blah blah, the planets with barnacles are pretty close to their star.

Actually, Merope 5C orbits a star fairly close, but it isn't the primary star in Merope.

I assume we've tried wailing on that center spire with a bunch of ship mounted multi cannons? Perhaps they're just really tough...... and with enough violence they'll crack open and spew yummy giant melons, and biscuits?

I am unsure whether this has been reported, but while on JC-U BC-1 I noticed that parts of JC-U BC-2 were flashing. (Loc: 20.77 / 93.17) The areas would flash for 1 second and then would pause for 7 seconds before repeating. The areas that flashed were in shadow at the time and the flash was quite noticeable. When pointed out to Cmdr. Toasted Almonds, he said that he could see the flashing as well. After we both went into supercruise, the flashing was still visible.

One of the flashing area seemed to correspond to the multiple barnacles found on JC-U BC-2 at 49 / 101.

Anyone else see anything similar....?

I also saw these flashes, but it looks more like a bug than like a feature.

ah my apologies. not really used to this forum layout so I glossed over that information before realizing it's actually clickable. whoops.

Either way, the subreddit thread about how the texture on the barnacle looks like the Barnards Loop Nebula had decent timing to say the least, as I was in the Orion Nebula at the time read it. I was just looking for confirmation that the barnacles grow on rocky or sandy worlds (as I wasn't aware of the findings after Merope 5C), which seems to be the case from the screenshots.

I won't be spending much more time here, but I'll spend a couple days searching around some rockier looking worlds to see if the texture shape really has much merit. (To be honest, I'm a little bit doubtful. Oh well)

Anybody else notice that the materials all roll towards the barnacle and accumulate at its base after they're liberated from the spikes by multicannon?

I watched a couple roll slowly up a slight incline.

Edit - this might be wrong and a function of the local land topology where I was, might be something to look for though. Would be interesting behavior if it's happening.

Not at my Barnacle. Those wee bitty's go absolutely everywhere when shot with the SRV. Never had one that rolled to the Barnacle.

Btw, where does one sell meta-alloys? My home station bought them for 0 credits each, even though they apparently have an 80 000 average.

I was just exploring the structure on PLEIADES SECTOR JC-U B3-2 (21.9,96.9) and we decided to check other modes to see if it had spawned, came back and it had completely despawned from Open.

Note that in the dark side it was quite visible thanks to the sparkles it emits from my ship from about 1km up.

Shooting the main structure etc had no real effect. We did agree that the symbol on the alien looked like the Magellanic Clouds. However going to look at them might be a bit beyond our reach?

I'm having quite a bit of difficulty getting any of the fixed PoIs on PLEIADES SECTOR JC-U B3-2 1 to spawn in either open or solo (suspect I'm getting a dud instance of open that has other people not finding them in it). I'm currently at the correct spot to see the 3rd barnacle (thanks to the great screenshot) so I'm going to do some stuffing around to see if I can get it to turn up.

Thankfully I've already had a good look at the first one on Merope 5c so I'm sure I'm not crazy :D

OK, look, congrats to everyone and all the excitability is well-earned but...

I just finished reading over 140+ pages in this thread. It has ruined my evening, and my back, and my eyesite.
I need to go to sleep really bad, so...

Please stop posting here until I get some sleep! Thank you.

I haven't read this thread since my post yesterday afternoon and it went up 1200 posts in that time.
Sod that. Not bothering.

Meta alloys seems to grows over the spikes and are well visible also before shooting them down.

I fill my Python cargo of them this morning ;)
Why I should sell them at Obsidian?

Let me explain to you what the barnacle is : a thing that is absolutely based on pure LUCK AND RANDOMNESS
