UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Unfortunately, I know all about them as I was one of those who had to squint through a plastic red lens to play the game in 1984. Even though we may have heard of them, this galaxy seems to have never heard of them, or what went before. I think a new history may be being written. Not that it's a bad thing, if that's the way they want to go.

I like what Drew did with his write-up, but I didn't know about that site you just put up. Good reading for later!

Men in black don't exist BTW. Well, the guy in dark suit behind me said to say that. He just said I shouldn't have said that either :(

They exist. They have been mentioned once in GalNet. In the article about Soontil relics.

It confirms contact 50 years ago, so the FFE lore stands strong.
The original Elite manual and The Dark Wheel are not to be taken literally according to MB.
I see them more as mythology :)

Thank you. Yes, that was the one that refers to them as a legend.
Okey dokey, I just find it odd that Palin doesn't even factor in the possibility of them.
Obviously just being totally objective, from a scientific standpoint!
I still have my copy of The Dark Wheel, even though not "legit" anymore, it's still a good read.

Opened up edit access to Panzertard who is part of Canonn as well:

We've gone down the form route too, We can use existing data from the sheet to allow more efficient comparison
Submit via this form:

http://goo.gl/forms/YK8pS9VemR

Coordinates are then reviewed
Planet locations are then posted in a comparison sheet.

Eventually coordinates will be placed onto a 3D Sphere so we can make a Heatmap.

Also just logged into private group and it disappeared, tried open again also gone. Will go through cycling in/out of game to see if it comes back. Be interesting if anyone else runs into it.

EDIT: I exited ED and got back in and it's back in open. Should be persistent location then. Someone else come see.

I'm at your site right now in open - probably my dodgy inet precludes me from seeing you and no barnacle here atm - I'll stay a while and scout in case it comes to light again.

In open and finally I scored my 1st find.

It's at 2.3189, 177.2434 according to my SRV's coords @ ground zero.

Definitely we're not in Kansas anymore stuff going on here.
Hello EAGLE 5, congrats on being among the first to find more barnacles! Excuse the noobishness of my questions but; where do you look to find what coordinates you are at in your SRV?

And how do you use coordinates to land your ship in the exact same spot on a planet? - as far as I know a ship doesn't show coordinates while in orbit around a planet.

Omategomatete is there now but I couldn't instance with him.. re-logged to see him and the barnacle and both are not here. Definitely instancing but I'd definitely file this one under permanent site.

Also I confirm the observation that the particle effect is focused on meta alloys once those are removed it's gone and all is left is the smoky mist from the barnacle itself.

I believe this is significant.

Look at your HUD in the SRV or your Ship its' to the right. Long Lat and Planet gravity is displayed there.

I never said combat logging is a valid way to play the game. If someone combat logs, you should report them.

The post I quoted when I said 'it's a valid way to play the game" mentioned a player attacking explorers. People don't like it, but it's valid. You can either set up a player defense force, to protect the explorers, or move to private groups and solo mode.

I fail to see why someone wants to kill explorers on the ground.
The thing is for me that the game crashed in open so I went to the site in solo, I got to the location and nothing was there so switched to open in my buggy and called my ship and then it got shot at and I died. I have only died 18 times, I made the mistake of going back to the ship when I should have sent it away, I don't see why you can not log out for 15 seconds if you are in your buggy and the player is shooting at your ship who makes these rules up the forum or Frontier?

Anyhow lesson learnt
I have now travelled back to the orbital and looking for payback.

UAs and barnacles have got human fingerprints all over them - morse code and logos.

Ish.

I have a hypothesis that the recently found crashed anaconda (with barnacles nearby) may have stolen and experimented with alien organic tech. This also explains the use of morse in UA!

They then hoped to "grow" ships. It has already been mentioned the barnacle strongly resembles a thargon. The logo, which could also be seen as a ship decal, may be hardcoded into the design of the whole ship and they couldn't change it. Either way, they crashed, possibly with barnacle seeds on board, as they are growing nearby now.

The Pleiades looks like it may be a huge shipyard. The UA are perimeter markers and watchdogs/alarms (it's easier to hook onto the light from a star than a planet, as a central anchor point).

The anaconda was either responsible for it, after crashing and it got out and self started, or they were trying to steal from it and failed.

We have been destroying the shipyard and I would assume the UA have already informed whoever owns it. Human, or otherwise. Not a good idea!

TLDR... the Pleiades is a shipyard, the UA are the alarm/security system, using the same tech. It is either owned by humans (who stole it), or aliens, who they tried to steal from.

It's a theory, so...thoughts?

so sad =/ i'll try again. so it is on the planet, not on station right? just to be sur =p

Results may vary, however I saw it on McIntosh Port, in Ryujin. I didn't take it because I didn't know what metta-alloys were at the time (had no idea about the barnacle nonsense till couple days after. Was trading about earning up for a new ship) But I jotted notes for later reference. After the fact, now i'm back in 'town' cruising about again, with 4 tons of metta-alloy in me hold, hoping I trip over the mission again but no joy sofar. Even went back to McIntosh and checked the surrounding surface ports, but no luck.

Cheers,

Well this is a first for me, just a hole where the anaconda should be lol

Barney is there though, this is on mobius

About the symbol on the barnacles; i'm looking for the vantage point to match it with the view on Bernard's loop... something is still missing...
