Did anyone notice the navigation booy verry close to the anaconda? The one with all the barnacles surrounding it that is

I think the barnacle is 'the tip of the iceberg'. Underneath there is a semi organic ship. The parts above the surface have somehow extracted these 'Meta Alloys' and other metals, and are 'feeding' it below to 'grow' a spaceship. Alien life is also being sustained through these plant/rock 'vents'. Eventually, when ready, the ship will surface.

Watching a ship erupt from the ground would be pretty cool.

But yeah, there's definitely something going on underground....that rumbling.

This is fairly convincing:

I also wanted to say before I'm away from the gam/forums for the weekend that it looks to me after a quick glance like the barnacle audio does have morse in it. There's just a lot more background noise.

I think that IF there is Morse in the Barnacle audio, and its encoding mechanism were to be different to that of the UA (which was definitely decodable by ear if you were practiced in Morse), then this would suggest that the UAs and Barnacles are not derived from a common source, but perhaps are examples of two similar technologies from two different sources (e.g. two Generation ships forming their own technology branches.

I'm here:
Merope 5 C (-25.34),(158.48)

But I don't see anything....

Can anyone help please? I'm at these exact coordinates as per the first page post (and on the correct planet!) but I can't see any Barnacles whatsoever, only a Data Link nearby and the usual rocks....nothing else #confused

Hello Barnacles Experts,

could you point me to an overview thread of current theories and suggestions for action? This thread is is rather too long to read. I know the post on page one updates with the most important news, but an overview of existing theories would be good so I could tell if a specific theory has been posted yet. I don't want to post yet-another duplicate suggestion.

Unfortunately, the data currently available is very sparse. I think everybody here assumes the "organic structures" are connected to the "barnacle" underground. Even this we don't know because we have almost any way to examine these things. We don't even have a surface temperature reading. What I'd like best, of course, would be an antiquities shop that sells the 20th century technology called "ground penetrating radar". If they don't have those, I'd buy an excavator to dig up the barnacle. Thats hardly more hostile than shooting it..

While I can't develop a scientific theory on such little data, by best vague guess would be:

We are being tricked to hand over our space stations to someone else. This is done in a way that relies on us to transport the necessary materials to the station, rather than moving massive freighters escorted by warships into our systems, which would alert defensive fleets.

  • Someone, alien or human, builds UAs and Barnacles.
  • Barnacles are stationary mining excavators that "grow" pseudoorganic materials (meta-alloys).
  • The UAs are relatively portable. They are planted near human space and emit signals.
  • Humans are bound to pick up UAs and carry them back to their space stations like ants carry pesticide ant bait to their nests.
  • The UAs technology damages stations. Humans look for a way to fix it. The UAs rotate to the location Someone planted the barnacles.
  • Humans find the barnacles, find out how to harvest materials and carry them to the stations damaged by UAs, hoping to repair them.
  • The stations get better. But the meta alloys are "alive" and in conjunction with the UAs start followinbg their own agenda.
  • The station becomes a megaorganism,is clandesinely controlled by someone else, while appearing to function normally.
  • If they are aliens, they release can then sopres into station air and brain control us all. Or the infection just spreads to more and more stations. If they are, the new owner of the station will just kick us out and move in their own ships.

Didn't we fight the first thargoid invasion using a technology-plage that ate their drive cores or something?

I'm sure I'm not the first one with this assumption, and somehow it hardly qualifies for a spoiler tag.

Best,

TLE

So I have an idea, since there seems to be 3 spiral arms to the Barnacles, maybe we need 3 UA's there to get a response, maybe positioned in the right place, in between or at the ends, etc. I have one there now by the Anaconda

Merope 5C's one was in -26/-156 if I recall correctly.

I'm afraid not - the nebula that they can be found in relates to their origin and I can't talk about that.

Are we paying enough attention to this? Some have read it that MB typed nebula instead of nebulae, but 'relates' is clearly singular, so I doubt it was a mistake. So in what way might the Pleiades relate to the barnacles' origin? (and I doubt it has anything to do with symbols on crashed ships)

Orion nebula anyone?

You can use Search Thread to check: the full post was:

What other nebulae are they found in? And is Lagoon nebula one of those nebulae?

Seems like it's a little bug. If you keep switching from open/private/solo the barnacle will eventually appear.

Is there anyone currently searching other nebulae for a barnacle sighting? I've spend the day Combing through T Tauri of the Hind nebula, all three landables show nothing, might be related to the fact they are low (<10%) metal content.
Currently combing through Barnard's Loop, since it seemed a good visual match to the sign on the barnacles to me. Not sure what to look out for, though. As one of the more obvious POIs in space, the area around the loop has been explored before, so some sort of alien homeworld would have been found by now. Landed on a few planets, so far the most interesting thing was a shipwreck with a load of fabricators. There's a lot of other nebulas relatively close by, so I guess Orion, Running Man or Witchhead might also be an option. But again, WHAT are we looking for?

There are six yellow crates and they are in 2 groups of 3, each in roughly the same triangle layout.

I just logged in and got attacked by two Cutters.

I won't name the one CMDR I scanned, <snip>

Same guy who shot my ship as I recalled it yesterday.

I'd have stayed but I'm on my own at the moment.
