Watching Serenity again (great movie) but I got curious about ship size comparison. This site here http://firefly.wikia.com/wiki/Serenity lists the dimensions of Serenity. The python is slightly bigger in measurements but its also a 'chunkier' ship - Serenity has wings for example. Great way to get a scale of the python and what it would be like to stroll around it whenever that feature finally arrives :)

Only saw it for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago (never heard of the series until a few months back, guess it wasn't a big thing in the UK) and it was awesome. I had watched the series just before xmas and hated how it left you kinda hanging at the end, shame they never made more of them. :(

The series Fire Fly is one of those gems and mysteries in life. a brilliant series but why'd it get canned after just one series?????????????
Almost everyone I know that is a fan (here in the UK) caught it retrospectively. I am guessing that the backers (I think it was Fox???) never really pushed it that hard on release.....

Anyway... Good point to the thread. I have been trying to imagine what it might be like to wonder about inside my Asp... It doesn't look to have much room inside for stretching my legs what with all the cargo racks... The Asp is a bit of an odd shape to try and envisage from the inside.. :S

Though watching while smuggling or scavenging illegal salvage would be more apt.

Nah, I need my wits about my while doing that.... Theres less contemplation time whilst smuggling than exploring

1 word. Fox.

Joss made a 90 minute intro movie but Fox said that nobody likes intros and skipped it so they started with Ep3 and decided to put the intro movie at the ens of the season(?). Because of that it took people longer to get into it so word didn't spread very fast. As the ratings weren't high enough 4 episodes in they canned it. He had to fight just to make Serenity (Fox owns the rights to Firefly which is why he can't use that name anymore even though Fox don't want it) just to tell the ed of the story.

It wasn't the only series Fox canned very quickly (not the only one starring Nathan Fillon either) and that is why I generally don't watch anything made by Fox until the first season finishes.

Probably the best sci-fi series of all time IMO, but Fox aired the shows in the 'Friday night death slot' and they also aired them out of order. At least they got to make the film to finish things off.

Fox cancel so many great shows in the first season, Terra Nova, Almost Human, Firefly, and others. I'm so glad The Last Ship is on TNT.

I 'bumped' into Firefly and consequently Serenity only last November. What a great little show. No Idea how I'd missed it all these years.

I don't think a lot of us found out about it till long after it had been axed.

I saw the film first and only found out about the series by accident when I asked the wife to order the film from Amazon.

"Do you want the series or the film"? I'm like "WHAT"?

"Get um both" and loved them both.

Damn shame Fox are a bunch of butt cracks.

Funny, but after watching the series episodes and the Serenity movie in sequence more times than I can remember, and then watching the "Browncoats reunion" special they did with the cast, I'm kind of glad it ended the way it did. It's hard to imagine that if it continued, it wouldn't have become less spontaneous and ingenious with the plots and the dialogue and become more formulaic like so many other series that tend to lose focus and quality over time.

As it stands, it will forever be one of those rare gems not likely to be equaled again in my remaining years...

The more times you watch it, the more wit and humor you pick up. The Shepherd Book character has some of the best lines ever put on film.

Thanks OP - great idea, watching it again on my Netflix simulator. Sure does help the grind. Love ED hate the pointless grind disguised as gameplay (I have a job for pointless grind and I get paid for that).

Haven't flown it yet but doesn't the Keelback have rotating engines? Also more in line with trading/smuggling on a lower class ship. Might be a better comparison.

Never heard of Firefly (Thanks Fox for the worst series promotion ever) until shopping for movies one day I found the boxed complete series edition. Hmm...Cowboys in space...sounds a little silly but I like space operas. Boy, was I wrong! If one can wear out DVDs by multiple replays I'll burn them out soon!

Then Serenity the movie comes out. Bought that as well. I'll probably never forgive Josh Whedon for the ending...Even emailed him about it when that was possible at the time. For the three people in the world who haven't seen Serenity I'll not spoil it for you...

My first license post to see how it looks. Vanity...We think we are being interesting to others when we are just being interesting to ourselves. :)

The show was amazing and like many others i only found out about it after the release of firefly , the possibilities were endless ... cowboys with a space theme and great writing.

It'll be really interesting to see what the inside of all the ships look like.

Perhaps not the same as Firefly though ;)

PS this thread is going to be about the series and how bad Fox is, not the topic.

Loved Serenity, and loved Firefly...

Would have been so much better if more had been written. I, too, came in almost immediately after the series had finished.

Lol, I have a cat called "River". You can guess what she's like!
