Beacon Limpet - Showing the way

It would be nice with some really cheap visual limpets (Red, Green and Blue)

You drop a limpet and it stays for X hours and has a clearly visible strong coloured glow.

This can be used for explorers to indicate a meeting spot or other use for friends.

It can also be used to mark out racetracks on a planet.

I suggested similar a few weeks ago.
Well, it seems we'll never get an in game option to set bookmarks. But, what about temporary beacons?
.
Example, during my trip from the center of a massive crater to the highest mountain at the rim I found several a crash site, plenty canisters of gold, tea, battle weapons, etc. So I needed to recalled my ship a few times. Bummer it landed between 800-1500 m away. After I dismissed my ship, due to the shear amount of signals on the wave scanner (metal rich planet in crater with craters) I couldn't always find the sites I left.
.
Suggestion - a temporary deployable beacon that appears on the radar & contact list. Visible to wing members, or all players. No need for an extra module. Limit the number of beacons to 3 or 5. Would be fine with me. Allow them to be dismissed in the contact list, not remove the oldest one by default.
.
Could add gameplay.
  • Find back the stuff I left behind.
  • Set a course for a race
  • Could bring some risk that ships will drop in and try to hunt you.
  • Strategic play to distract low level skimmers?
  • Maybe make it visible to other players - adds some risk - wait, is this cool stuff down there - I'll get it first, etc. Use the wings mechanics to get them into the same instance (dream)
  • Treasure hunt. Missions or by players
  • Missions, follow the nav beacons intel prepared.
  • Signal to exploration team lost, find / follow last signals. Make 1st appear in ship, all others in SRV only, bread crumps
  • ...
ps: in the meantime I got better with latitude/longitude & bearing

While on the topic of navigating: why's the compass missing during orbital SC? That makes finding a certain Lat/Lon even harder than the sometimes too high speed already does on it's own. Or just let us select them on the surface map and get a temp marker to aim at.

Also while I don't think I'd use the beacon limpets myself does the idea sound nice :D

Dear god yes, why not handle the planets as a galaxy map and allow me to set a Go-To location by placing a marker on the planetary map with X/Y coordinates so I can EASILY fly to it.

Hunting the right LAT/LON coordinate is a PITA when looking for small objects.

If possible I would also like Bacon Limpets.

That was the thing I've read at first, and I was all like "waaat?..." read again and was still confused so I took a look xD

Also wouldn't bacon limpets be pointless? Either they'd get bad quickly, or morelikely wouldn't last long otherwise (nom nom nom) :p
