That wont work I'm afraid.
Ok, so how will you limit the players in-game then so we don't hit an "invisible wall"? We don't like invisible walls if you haven't noticed.![]()
Fuel running out? And even if the fuel runs out...as far as I have understood it players will be able to jump to another players location, let's say if the ship breaks down. This means two players could work together...one flying further and further out and the other doing fuel runs...
Someone will try so there needs to be some sort of (semi) plausible explanation for why this can't be done.
You can only jump to a system star. Fuel would run out before you could get anywhere significant in most circumstances and good luck determining if you've hit an invisible wall or not on the outskirts of a system.
Fuel permitting it would take you about 22hours at 2000C to cross 5 lightyears of space (excluding accelleration/decelleration time).
And that would get you from Sol to at least 1 other star.
To me this sounds very well within limits of "reasonably doable" for a real nutter with a high amount of stubbourness
It's not the first time I have left my computer running for over a full day doing something I was willing to wait for. (Rendering fractals on a 386SX comes to mind)
Still: fuel will be the problem!

So we won't be able to jump directly to massive bodies like planets, only stars - even in system?
Ah fair, enough - that does make more sense. It just seemed a little arbitrary confining it to just stars.Well in general yes but we're thinking a more nuanced system is required to allow jumps to significantly isolated and huge masses that for the most part just means a systems star but can include jumping to binary stars, or isolated gas giants etc.
Very old thread
It makes lot of sense though, because micro jumps always felt stacked on after introducing FSD. Can't wait to see it in action!
What's the logic behind not allowing in-system micro-jumps?Well in general yes but we're thinking a more nuanced system is required to allow jumps to significantly isolated and huge masses that for the most part just means a systems star but can include jumping to binary stars, or isolated gas giants etc.

Elite is about the journey, not the destination. With a point to point jump you skip over any potential game play where as supercruise can provide opportunities for encounters and exploration.
Because Micro-jumps are more interestingly? Perhaps we should have a thread about that. What's the logic behind not allowing in-system micro-jumps?
