UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

This might have been done before but...

Has anyone tried overlapping both the UA and Barnacle sounds? Both soundtracks could be two pieces of a puzzle.

For example, do the tuba sounds on the UAs and the Barnacle happen at the exact same intervals? Maybe they actually complete some kind of "tune". I studied music for over 8 years, so I will be listening to these and trying to determine the notes (I studied piano though, so my ear isn't quite trained for something like a tuba) XD

I would love to know if anyone has tried overlapping these sounds on top of each other and listening to them at the same time as one track.

No, it wasn't done.
But in my long experience about this mystery, what I can say to you is: you'll not gonna find anything outside of the game, all of you.
Recording sounds, overlapping them then over-analyzing them with pro software, is everything but an in-game solution.
Everything we've discovered so far could have been done entirely in-game, with pen, paper and a good ear. Nothing more.
Yes, we've used some software to help us in the task. But to discover, in the end, that what we were looking for, was there, in-game.

So if you think you'll gonna enjoy it, do it for sure. But do not expect to find something ;)

P.S. Slowing down or speeding up the sound, falls in the said "out of game" category. We can do it, it could help, but it will not solve the mystery: if there is MORSE, it should be there, while you play the game hidden somehow, but audible in some way, without any manipulation.

Perhaps she's trying to sabotage you.

Are you sure she's not a Thargoid agent?

After all according to lore all Thargoids are female.

I'M NOT BEING PARANOID!!!

Thats true! I wondered why she wanted to be with me! :)

All that exploration data. Ah well it saved me the bother of selling many pages of data and it cleared the transactions page that was getting quite huge...

Then I fear you have misunderstood how some of the things are done in this game, just because the story doesn't run at the pace you want it to, doesn't mean it's not running :)

If the story is running in the background it´s not the same to us. There are many movies running at the cinemas outta there but if you don´t go to watch them, you don´t know the story of it... c´mon you know what i mean! ;)

Still unsure of why people are trying morse code... there doesn't seem to be any long or short tones between purrs.
Am I missing something?
The notes between the purrs/rumbles are of equal length and at notes B, C, C#. Suggesting a code based on 3 as opposed to 2.

The purrs ARE the tones. Speed them up and you can clearly hear high and low notes of what is clearly a brass instrument used to make the sound. It's possible to distinguish high and low without speeding it up, just a bit more difficult.

I agree with what Rizal said. Speeding up is only a tool, if there is something there, it should be decodable without special tools. But that doesn't mean that using special tools won't help you stumble upon a pattern that is difficult to hear in-game.

I think we're in danger of derailing this thread so maybe we should park this one here (I'm not even going to apologise for that pun), but you're first example is a Scavenger Hunt, not a Treasure Hunt and the end of it is not the same as what is happening in this thread. The second scenario I don't really understand the relevance of :D

Nothing could derail this thread.. It goes off on tangents all the time..

I think the point is that if there's something to be found then people will look even if the chance of finding it is very small. If it turns out to be not there in the first place they get angry (and people tend to forget there was nothing solid said.. just vagueness). And if Frontier admit that there's no treasure hunt then those players go back to being bored because there's nothing to look for until the next galnet release that sends them somewhere else. I personally (and a few other people it seems) dont like the idea of chasing vapour as a filler between real content.

I'd agree with that if we knew that there was stuff to be discovered and that it will actually show up. Having stuff not spawn half the time (ie barnacles not spawning in solo) is half the problem. The other half is that sometimes it's hard to believe that it's not all empty space and your just saying go look for something just to keep us busy while you make stuff to put in it.

Yeah, I have quit hoping for a satisfactory time-line to this particular story after the 'now-you-see-me-now-you-don't' barnacle saga. All those hours spent rubbernecking in Private Group mode and they were invisible.....not catching me again I'm afraid.

I'll sit in the bleachers, arms folded, casting a lazy eye.

What is everybody looking for now that there are infinitely-harvestable meta-alloys? More barnacles?

Attention barnacle researchers:

The Robigo system's station (Robigo Mines, outpost) has recently been affected by the same malfunctions as other stations (looking at you Obsidian Orbital). I want to help repair the outpost but I can't, I'm an Xbox player. I know there's a CG to bring meta-alloys to Obsidian but would anyone be willing to divert some tonnage to Robigo to help repair that station? There's only so much us Xbox players can do to counteract a PC player's terrorism by intentionally selling a UA there to force their view of Elite onto other people.

Obviously we are supposed to shoot the barnacles. Fdev have made a situation in which not shooting the barnacles offers 0 new gameplay, whereas shooting them gives us meta alloys that magically fix stations. To be clear, it could never have been frontiers goal for us not to shoot them, If you put something in a video game that does nothing when not shot, but drops loot if shot, what do you really think is going to happen?

Also, has nobody possibly had the idea that whatever this alien race is, maybe they are giving us meta alloys on purpose to fix the unintentional damage their UA's are doing to our stations? From what I can see, shooting the stocks to get the meta alloys is not killing the barnacle, in fact they don't react in any way to being shot, most living things react when they are hurt.

If you decide not to shoot barnacles, I don't care, but don't start thinking you are going to convince even a fraction of the player base to leave them in peace, it's never, ever going to happen.

read here: if you want to heal Robigo, I suspect you'll have to take Meta-Alloys to Palin, first.

Waste of time if it isnt "Official" in a CG. Hundreds have been delivered to Bond Hub with no effect.

From my perspective I want things to be discovered rather than announced. That can't always be avoided - especially with people nosing through game files! Sometimes a nudge is needed to move things along, but I'd like to keep that to a minimum.

Michael

Me too, though I want to be sure there is something to discover, searching for something that isn't in game is frustrating.

Ahh but the thing with treasure hunts is that you know theres something to hunt for.

Lets say you have a 1000 acre park here on earth. And you hide a £1000 bar of gold on the park and tell people it's there. You would get a huge response and lots of people looking. Imagine what would happen after these people had been looking for a week digging up the whole park and you said.. actually there's nothing there? Quite a few angry people.

Imagine another scenario.. There's a park with nothing there. How many people do you get searching the park just randomly incase there's something there? Well there's metal detectorists but they are few and far between.

There are hunts like that in this game. Everything does not have to be that way.

Well, if nothing else, this CG will generate a lot of data for FD to debug spawning as pilots log off and on again as the most efficient way to meta-game the meta-alloys.

Good

No, no and just no :D

What would this bring to the game other than giving people who can't be bothered to do anything unless they know they're going to get rewarded for it, some kind of impetus to play the game? Michael has also said earlier in this thread that the Barnacles are just part of the story, not the solution, do you need more than that?

Maybe I'm wrong, but what exactly are you all taking part in this enterprise for exactly? I haven't taken part in the whole of the UA affair, but I've been watching it from the beginning (mainly for the hilarity of the threads) The thing that strikes me the most is that since Horizons has been released and newer players have joined the game and more have been enticed by the Barnacles, the amount of help and clearly defined guidelines that have been requested has gone up massively. It's not just here, in fact it is more obvious in the last couple of Treasure Hunts that have taken place. The thing I personally enjoy most about the Treasure Hunts and this endeavour is the hunt and batting ideas around each other trying to come up with possible solutions with which we can solve or advance the story.

A treasure hunt is a lot different than what we have been dealing with. You have fun counting thargoid fingers and flying UA's across the galaxy? More power to you. "Batting around" stupid ideas will never get you anywhere.

Me too, though I want to be sure there is something to discover, searching for something that isn't in game is frustrating.

^this
We go to solo to avoid the bags and search for hours and hours, some even left merope after one of the "clues" only to find, nope, gotta be in open. Just one example.
T ship fiasco
Buggy poi's
Have fun

I can't do anything as I'm an Xbox player. Xbox doesn't have access to Horizons (and the required planetary landing module).

Yeah, but the CG at Obsidian is supposed to help solve and fix the issues with all other affected stations. So eventually you station will be fixed by people bringing the Meta-Alloy to Obsidian.
