I too had wondered at the path regarding Meta-Alloys. The results of UAs being widely "investigated" so far appears to have been for the most part harmful. But this was something not hard to imagine, given their corrosive nature from the very first discovery.
Do the Federation, Empire, or Alliance have any general policy in place regarding newly discovered life forms? Surely, that of all the Earth-like worlds discovered, they must. I had presumed that those Earth-like worlds inside the bubble were filled with "non-intelligent" life which makes the backbone of Agriculture or Marine economy systems. All of those life-forms are directly exploited for food and otherwise, with only a very few systems banning say, plant or animal sourced goods.
Are the barnacles more than any other previously unknown tree, discovered long ago on some Earth-like world, which today is a thriving hub of human activity?
