Something for the weekend? (Premium Beta getting single player combat build)

Doesnt make any sense, I thought beta was feature complete? How can they release beta combat on its own unless they have just rewritten the definition of 'beta'?

What is that going to achieve other than more people will be able to play it - other than trying again to get more people to upgrade to Premium Beta?

Getting a bit fed up with these tactics of constantly trying to encourage people to pay early Frontier.

oh, just read it again.

""The Alpha process has worked well for us. We have gradually built out the key elements of the game, first locally, with single player combat, then with a few thousand players across the internet. On 30 May, the Premium Beta extends this to many thousands of players worldwide, with an increasingly rich game."

*sit back down in chair and exhales*

Omg.. i just thought :(

Least we have a date for Premium Beta now. 30th of May.
Bit of a shame that we have to hear this through a third party investment site rather from FD directly.

Interesting that they managed to raise £2.45 million in total for funding the game.
Isn't that a million more than kickstarter ended at? Pity there weren't any stretch goals.

Looks like the are rolling out the client to me, that includes the offline single player mode. You just won't be able to connect to the server yet. Is that bad?

Why again only negativity?

I've seen several requests at releasing the single player combat build for Beta/Gamma backers. Now it looks like the Premium Beta folk will get it. I would think this is a gesture of good will and some small consolation for Alpha process being dragged much longer than initially estimated, a POSITIVE thing.

*sigh*

A beta is often feature complete, but not necessarily. Nothing prevents you from implementing more features during a beta, plenty of games (especially among the new kickstarter/early access breed) have done it that way.

Heck, besides TESO I have a heard time thinking of any recent beta I've participated in that was feature complete.

As I understand it, TESO actually changed a lot during beta. But whether you notice depends a lot on when you joined the beta.

With any announcement there will always be some happy people about it and some who don't like it. The unhappy seem to post more urgently. Is a real shame as i feel the majority of beta probably welcome this.

I guess it might have change a lot more in the closed betas. I were only in two weekends. Still, that only helps my point, a beta doesn't have to be feature complete.

Will the upgrade to Premium Beta access option appear soon? Pretty sure there will be plenty of people that can't afford the upgrade to Alpha but will be willing to drop a smaller amount to get into Premium beta now that there is content to play.

p.s. I think releasing an early build to Beta backers is a great idea (I'm pretty sure I was one of the first people calling for it back in January).

Good first move, allows us premium betas to test our setups, configure the joysticks and get a grip on the mechanics before well kick some alpha butt ;)
