I think the LMC looks like Mushu!

Without re-logging I just collected an extra 12t from B3-2 2 and 1 in less than 2hrs. The three sites in 2, in the crater within the massive crater, were very close together. Two of them were visible from each other on the ground, and I was able to drive to both after landing! The third I found after a little bit of flying.

14t total (awful I know, but game time limited) puts me at top 60%.

I now have a top secret mission to carry out for Dr Arc.

Glad to read that, the amount of MA needed for tier1 was just insane. But even now, tier 1 is only achievable if a lot of people keep relog farming the heck out of the same barnacles over and over again. Pretty bad mechanic. But at least it looks like there's gonna be some kind of reward for those that farmed!

Actually I think it's pretty sad that people who farm like that get rewarded tho'.. It's basically abusing game mechanics to make tons of profit.

The first time I wanted to see them for myself I only delivered 2 of them and already made it to top 60%. Not sure how the incline is. I could not find that third on B3-2 2 tho' and I flew around quite a bit, even found screens of someone posting the locations but I think it may just have not shown for me.

Is the respawn just game mechanics, or an intended function of the Barnacles?

I think the way some people use the relogging is not an intended function, but I know they do respawn, just not sure how much time it takes. But there do not seem to be enough people around to get the alloys for a high rank community goal and the known locations are limited, so far only found them on 3 planets with help of coordinates.

I've got 40T in the hold so I'll likely top that up to the full 72T that I can carry but I think that's all I can bear to do of this broken mechanic.

I'd like to look for more barnacles but the spawning issue is very disheartening and putting me off playing at all at the moment.

My luck today I think was connected with the Canonn private group being basically empty. So, my instance was managing all the spawns and it was working fine. The suggestion is that all of these alternative barnies in similar locations are intended to spawn at the same time, but there might be a server or client issue when there are multiple players sharing servers that's causing it to bork.

Can't explain the solo issue though.

I'm sure FD can. Hopefully it'll be addressed in the forthcoming patch trailed by MB in the dev update.

When I first started collecting the meta-alloys last Friday I had to relog and restart around 15 times before I could find a barnacle, but once I found it, then it has been there for ALL solo, and private groups every relog since. Even when the group was full of people. I didn't try open.

Ah, I'm with you now. Agreed. Waiting for regrowth = OK. Forcing it with a logout = not OK

Edit: Missing full stops = not OK.

For me it's the other way around. If there are other people around, I always get the barny spawn. Yesterday I was all alone in both Canonn and Open. I tried all modes and re-starts and did not get a spawn.

I'm fairly sure that there is no difference between the game modes, except for how you get instanced. If you are instanced with other people, you will get data from them as well as from the server. That way the chance of spawn increases.

I know others have already commented on this but I cant get over how similar these two things are.... they must mean something. They are so close. One from the side of the barnacle and the other is a nebulae..same same? :S:)View attachment 98065View attachment 98066

To me they don't look similar at all, but it's probably just me haha.
Anyway, you just have to overlay the symbol on top of anything really and it looks similar. Look:

I know it's impossible as the blank spaces are due to missing data but still, you see my point.

Well, FYI, I've played all the past evening in solo, and the Barnacles have spawned EVERY TIME.
I was able to grab 72T of Meta-Alloys while staying in Solo all the time. It means I've relogged 36 times with no issues...

I was in debug cam looking at a barnacle on Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 2 (the one at 49.06, 102.93 specifically) and noticed that the light that the barnacle emits along the ground only shines out in four directions. This one is aligned pretty much N/S as well (N is directly upwards in this image), although I understand that they are oriented in various directions I lined it up for reference against others.

Not sure what to make of the light and whether it's relevant or not but thought I'd bring it up here in case it helps the way anyone else is thinking at the moment, and it looks pretty :)

Looking at this image got me thinking, has anyone compiled images of the discovered barnacles from above? I was wondering whether the spikes form in different patterns or the lights from the barnacles as mentioned in the post above. Apologies if this has already been considered but if this varies from barnacles to barnacle but does not change on respawn it may mean something?

If no-one has considered this I may take a tour of the known barnacles and try get some pics

On a totally unrelated note am I the only one who has never (tempting fate I know) experienced the spawning bug. I have tracked down several from the spreadsheet and discovered a new one for myself, I've logged out parked next to one and it has always been there when I've come back. I play primarily in open but have flicked to solo a few times to get a fresh load of MA. Just curious as there are a lot of people saying they are giving up the hunt because of this bug that may only be affecting a small number of users.

Exactly - I mentioned the phenomenon of Pareidolia in a previous post in this thread in relation to the spirals and spiders I fabricated based on barnacle overlays.

And now...I have another one for any conspiracy-minded Canonneers reading this :D

Behold! This moon - Trifid Sector FW-W d1-233 1c :-

Do you see it? In the middle there?

No?

How about NOW then?

See that huge, caldera there? The one that looks like a city-sized BARNACLE?

Doesn't it also look a bit like...something else maybe?

Can you see it? Look! Can you SEE IT?? Right there! Caldera...Barnacle... Overlay them and you get -

NOW do you see it?

That moon is in the Trifid Nebula, and that 'caldera' is actually the fossilised remains of a giant barnacle! Or maybe even a barnacle city. Clearly ALL the barnacles originate from this one location!

...........

*Ahem*

Do you see what I did there? That's Pareidolia in action. ;)

Of course, for all I know...that insane rant could actually be correct, lol

Now I see why we are close to tier 1. Pot and Kettle lol

I agree it's a broken mechanic, but that's what we have at the moment. Being there in a full combat Clipper, gave me the "joy" to do some anti-griefers patrolling breaks in Open, just to split the monotony of the task ;)

Progress of the CG going well.
Not sure if may help but worked today after trying it.
lacking barnacle spawns again this morning, close game and relaunch to alternate which server you are on , and got a barnacle hit right away. Something related to servers and instancing, but worked to get my barny's back.
Once you have a spawning server, can reenter safely with barnys there. Problems seem to occur with groups and if CMDRs on differing servers, then some can see and others cant,

Around 19,000 more MA should hit tier 1 think.

Me too. From what I've gleaned by monitoring the servers without spawns and the servers with (a post I started awhile back), its all about timing or rather more how quickly you log back in once exiting from the mode with the spawn. The slower you are, the more chance of flipping onto another server with a glitched instance.
