Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

Although prospectors might appreciate having that data ahead of time.
+1 : From WP 6 onwards, the target is often VERY vague. We could easily be prospecting hundreds of ly from the actual meetup point. Not a lot of point to that.
If we had even a proposed target system it would help, with the actual system and planet decided much closer to the date once the scouting had been done.

You misunderstood. I know and I'm a regular there. My suggestion is to make the DW Discord channel the official communications channel (instead of Skype and Teamspeak, which are currently the official channels). I could also live with Discord and Teamspeak as official channels, but let's please ditch Skype as official channel.

We're hoping to keep FleetCom going long after DW is over and use it as a central communications hub for explorers. A place that connects players and something that future expeditions can utilize.

The communication network that's been set up as been an awesome success and it'd be a shame to dismantle it after DW.

Discord offers both voice and text and is free, so its probably the favorite to be FleetComs primary communication in the future. For DW though, players have their favorites and have chosen the one they prefer, so there are no plans to force anyone to move to something different for this particular expedition. Skype was set up and players added to it when the expedition was at less than 100 players. It was already in place by the time this event became popular. Its not getting ditched because there's a whole community on there now enjoying it, some people prefer Skype over the others believe it or not :)

What would be the reasoning to set official fleet-meetup-dates if everybody knows the exact coords in advance? There are already people racing ahead with the first already having reached Beagle Point, for what reasons whatsoever (doesn't bother me / not of my concern). The ones racing ahead know the route and can do everything they want while enroute. They even have pictures of the landing spots, so a constructive thing they could do is set up a competition "Who finds the exact waypoint coords first?":D. But who denies himself the group experience of reaching the waypoints together at the official dates, has made this decision on his/her own and should stand behind that decision.

Again, for prospectors ... also cartographers to be honest. They're performing a GREAT service for the uninitiated and should be appreciated/helped.

Exactly Dom ... so how about it Erimus? ;)

Just to clarify and hopefully end this debate once and for all. The way things have turned out is complete different to how it was planned. In the end, email and forum (and in a sense Twitter) have become the official communication channels between the organisers and the fleet. Skype, discord, TS, etc have all become social hubs. Nothing more than that. Each have their advantages and disadvantages and people have all settled on what they prefer. This is a reality we'd be arrogant to try and meddle with. People have preferences and that's that. I'm not going to force anyone anywhere at this point. Skype has a lovely conversation constantly happening and quite a few busy channels for organising. Discord has amazing chat features and a global system to it, and is easy to join and step into if you don't want an app on your PC. TS has a history, a method and a style a lot of people are used to and great friendships have been formed there.

At the end of the day, where we are now is that people have bonded and formed friendships and likings to certain chat modes. It's not going to change. We as organisers are not going to try to change it. People can come and try to start a movement from one to the other and I couldn't care less and won't encourage or discourage it. I will warn that it's a mostly futile attempt at this point as people have their preferences and might get a little annoyed being told what to do so I suggest we leave it and let it be now. No further use debating which is best as nobody really cares anymore :)

Me and Erimus will discuss letting the prospectors in on the waypoints as that is a good point. Will let you know any solutions we come up with as there are two good sides to this debate and wed like to satisfy both if possible

Personal appraisal so far: pretty good. I've even managed to take a look at some barnacles all the way back at the Pleiades from NGC 6357 and back, while taking advantage of the opportunity to tune up and fine tune my boat. I had forgotten how much I could accomplish with a big fuel scoop and a jump range that lets me spread my wings.

Speaking of wings, some annoyances here and there with exploration data sharing which I've ticketed to FD as well as other annoyances, but for now I'll continue with meeting players if not winging.

Speaking of meeting players... MANY new and good friends out there, especially on Skype chat. It's great to see you all and meet with you all. :) Also great to go prospecting with some of you too.

Speaking of prospects, things look good actually. I now know I can catch up with fleets ahead of me. I'm ahead of the pack just now, at Greae Phio, but I'll be taking things steadier from now on, as RL catches up, but I hope to meet with the fleets at the key waypoints.

This exploration lark is coming back to me again. :)

In my opinion it is totally wrong to give the exact coordinates of Waypoints in advance to anybody.
This will only disgregate the fleet. If somebody wants to go ahead let's go, but they won't the exact pois.
This is the only way to keep the fleet togheter and have a good number of CMDRs to socialize to each waypoint.
If somebody has the coordinates beforehand they will be leaked and we will end up everyone for itself.

Prospecting is a fake problem:
1) I can give a reference system in advance for all the 23 waypoints. Reference systems already works and it's implemented in my thread.
2) Giving the efficiency of prospectors, a couple of hours after a WP is announced, we already have a green system.

Don't change what have been working superfine for 1000 CMDRs becouse few (less than 20) loud ones ask otherwise. Stick with what is working. Be firm.

Not understanding why some people must always have problems instead of enjoying their expedition,
Akira /out.

Back at NGC 6357 after a round trip back to the bubble and will start prospecting. Going to start using Trello now. Turns out that one of the planets I thought was a waste of time has Pollonium on it. I need Pollonium!

Thanks to all who Friended me, its been great and is going to be great all the way to Beagle. I like to see everyone spread out across the galaxy.

I've only has one reject out of all I asked, pretty good huh!

Agreed, what's done is done and we're in motion. No point changing anything of that nature at this time.

That would be really great as I know many a person ahead and prospecting dying to know the waypoints for the purpose of focusing their efforts. Can't see any harm in it, just a benefit.

... and why do you assume they are having a problem as opposed to enjoying themselves? You're painting a simple request in as negative light as possible ... there's no harm in "20" knowing the waypoints, no harm at all.

On my way to the Eagle Nebula I decided to test out FSD boost and give EDSM a nice outlier. After a couple of standard and premium jumps and ended up 2180 ly below the Eagle Nebula. There was another star below me, just in reach, yet I would have to empty my fuel tank to get there and it was a neutron star. Instead of giving the fuel rats a difficult challenge I chose the more reasonable path, the long way tracing my steps back up.

On the way I found 2 ELW, one a moon of a HMC. It lined up quite nicely with the galaxy.

The view from this tiny rock was quite spectacular

Today I visited the bonfire at Mt. Magellan to enjoy the demolition derby on show. One daredevil commander even jumped over the nose of my ship while I was hovering next to the mountain.

I'm currently on the way back to bubble before heading to NGC 6357 since I keep forgetting to turn the shields back on before landing. I should locate the landing gear deployed sound sample and replace it with, Raise your shields dumb-ass. Hopefully this will be the last trip back.

I need your advice! I made a couple of newbie errors (crashed into exclusion zone of star, crashed into planet while landing in the dark), and now my Asp has a hull at 62%. I am at Eagle Nebula. Should I fly all the way back to get my ship fixed, or should I self-destruct and use insurance to resurrect? Or, perhaps I could make the trip to Beagle Point and back on 62%? I do have D4 shield, so it eliminates damage from bumps and bruises, but not from bigger mistakes. Any advice would be appreciated!

I would fly back. A few hours a night this week and you'll be back to WP5 in no time if you do a fairly straight shot. Just be careful, because after another week, that distance is going to begin to be considerable.

I kinda bummed I missed you guys. I've been in the Eagle Nebula for almost a week now. Wanted to join up with you all. I was in the right system, right planet/moon but had to log off to pick up my daughter. By the time I got back on, everyone was gone :-(

It's a long lonely trek. I would like to add some folks to my friends list since it doesn't look like I'll be able to make the normal meeting times too often (if it is 8:00 Eastern time USA). I've never winged up before and it sound like it could be a lot of fun.
Anyone going to be in the NGC 6357 nebula in the next couple of days - ahead of meeting point?

Add me: "Phoenix991". I'm usually on after midnight CST. I hit NGC 6357 last night when I missed the meeting time because I didn't know what the time was until it was too late!
