Retribution laser analsys

You also then have to consider if the opponent is using heat sinks, does that make it useless ?

People use heatsinks? I've only seen one person run heatsinks in any of my pvp encounters, and he was using 3x railguns and 2 beams. Even if they did I'd consider that a skillful counter, like using ecm at the right time etc.

Johnny Kelso above has the best idea actually, this could have made a great defensive option if they'd turreted it but made it work through shields, as it would essentially overheat people for shooting at you.

God weapon's INC.

I want to thank Owner of this post, thank you for destruction of my illusion bounded for this weapon.
I can cause more damage with 3x 3C F Beam laser.

I have at least 1 HS on pretty much every combat ship build. Useful when you need to do as much damage as possible.

Heat sinks used to be a lot more common, but with the addition of shield boosters, almost noone carries them anymore. Unless you're using a very high heat loadout, or exploring, shield boosters are better in almost every situation.

I've tried these lasers out myself... alone it wont do much, but it does have good uses. I can imagine with a wing of fighters will take a large ship down quickly. Against fighters they are useless, but i noticed while i was in a res site. Pythons and Annacondas had some intresting effects.. while following and assisting the security ships in the site,, i get a few shots in with regular lasers to get a bounty claim, once his shields were down, the large ship cannot move easily enough out of the way., so fighters can keep continual beams focused on the main ship,
The lack of damage was worrying,, but you are bypassing that,, the ship would have trouble running,, charging fsd under heat fire ,, will add rapidly to that heat,, i watched a near full health Python burn up.... i watched as sparks errupted all over his ship as he was burning up until boom,, exploded. It helped the feds were keeping him under fire and busy not shooting at me,,
that was in Asp with just 2 of them equiped... i must try out more ,, maybe 6 if power will allow it.
or in a Wing of 2 fighters and a heavy .,,, that could work nice.

Outfit my Asp with 4 of these and twin Autocannons. Did preliminary testing on PvE and found the following:
1) 4 of these lasers can fire at the same time for about 1-2 seconds before draining fully kitted A rank power on my ship and shutting down. Seems to consume about 1.5 times as much energy as a standard beam laser.
2) Does absolutely zero damage, no matter how long they are fired at a shielded ship. So is almost useless against any ship with a combat rating above Harmless.
3) Do no damage to subsystems, no matter how long they are fired at a shielded or unshielded ship. So you cannot blow the cargo hatch out and collect pirated goods, or target weak spots like the powerdrive.
4) Takes 45-60 seconds of continuous fire to overheat an unshielded Lakon-6 to the point of destruction. (which is more time than it takes to destroy it with standard Autocannons)

Looks like this weapon, although an interesting idea, is worse than the much cheaper alternative weapons against every possible target in PvE. It is technically possible that it could serve a purpose against min-maxed PvP ships, but inmy opinion (without any actual testing) it's unlikely to be a tipping point, since you need to sacrifice a weapon slot that could have been firing with a much more useful alternate weapon .... like a mining laser maybe.

So do they actually work now? I saw a video where they didn't work AT ALL and well.. I wonder if they would make for a good weapon for piracy. If a target is fleeing their FSD is charging and they are boosting as all hell I'm sure I could do plenty of heat damaga against them and scare them into stopping. Would this work? Should I even bother with Mahon and just got for Felicias laser now?

(Going for pretty much all the PP weapons. Got all the Imperial ones apart from the mining lance to date)

No, They do not work at all. If anything they made my target colder. Just got them tonight. Almost a year after the first report of them being garbage, they are still in fact broken. If anyone tells you they work they are blowing smoke.... I feel If I where to get out of my ship and breath heavily on the cockpit I would cause greater heat gain in my target than these laser pointers. 4 weeks wasted when I could have spent that time pledged to Denton for a useful PP weapon. Can I get the CQC heat beams instead on my real ships?

Huh. I think I'm going to make a friend try to get them or get them myself video it myself and send in a bug report or something.

As i am not into PP at all, and assuming this laser is part of the PP giveaway for a certain level of allegiance, my question is:

Are any of these PP giveaways worth getting? Not sarcasm, genuine question??

I think the advanced accelerator is the most entertaining gun in the game, its not that strong but I love it.

So this is my questions Derath, and perhaps i should start a new thread and not pinch this one, Forgive me OP, but why is it not strong? Why would you pick it above a normal PA? why do you love it?

PS> Perhaps a more knowledgeable Cmdr can point me in a direction of a thread that explains all these PP giveaways...Thank you

Hello Commanders!

2.1 should see the Retributor work correctly: it will dump a useful amount of heat into the target ship, including when striking shields.

Hope this info helps.

These should provide a good counter-balance to the silent running builds. shedding those heat sinks in PvP.

Thanks for the info Sandro!

Are there any other regular/ Powerplay weapons to be revamped or tweaked in 2.1, If so, may we have the details, pleeeeaze! :)
Cytoscrambler maybe? Gimbal or/and higher class of Powerplay weapons? Hatch breaker limpets that really scale with higher class (more canisters dropped, in a cluster and not an endless line?)

Hello Commander geoffrey.hdt!

Well, with the introduction of the crafting system there will be, um, a number of interesting options for various weapons.

Also missiles are getting a revamp, preventing them from penetrating but allowing them to damage multiple external modules which includes drives, utilities and hardpoints (and we're adding another minor buff to their damage versus shields).
