One Happy Premium Beta Backer

Well, I have been sitting and waiting patiently as a premium beta backer, enjoying all the content and chat that has been banded about. But today I am one happy commander. Not only did my Elite mug and T-shirt arrive from the store but I am greeted with the news that I can now enjoy the early alpha build. It's downloaded and I have just done my first 2 flights in my new sidewinder and I can honestly say the wait has been worth it. This game is holding true to the original elite movement dynamics which is awesome. There is joy in just strapping yourself into the seat and flying around the asteroids...... :) It's like a warm welcome home :)

Commander Cartilas .....over and out !!!!

Good for you! Welcome to your Side Winder and I am sure we will be meeting in game before we know it.

And a first (sorry second) post too. Great when something happens that makes someone who doesn't post that frequently add their voice into this forum of ours.:)

Welcome Commander.

Agreed. Today is my first day with the game too. It lives up to the hype for sure. Also, I'm so glad I bought a Hotas joystick a few months ago. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to play without it.

Also, my mug arrived today too.

I'd like to echo the OP's sentiments; really appreciated that they released the Alpha 1 build and have been having a great time trying and failing to learn 'FA-off' mode.

My first attempt at elite...

Pressed a button, made lots of sparks appear in the cockpit, pressed it a few more times till I got a bit of a fire work display going.

Pressed another button and I exploded!

Is that officially the worst start anyone has ever made at this game? :)

Probably. lol ;)
There are a lot of buttons. It helps if you know what you're pressing. :p

I suspect you're pressing the 'silent running' button and subsequently overheating the ship. You need to also turn off some modules to avoid that.

Yeah, I think it was some sort of forward boost that made the sparks, then space bar that exploded me.

I've mapped a few now.

Its a lot more light, agile, and sensitive than how I remember the original, but maybe thats because its a sidewinder.

I hope the larger ships do have a more weighty, momentum feel.

Over the moon though, a very pleasant surprise when I was expecting maybe another month wait, a whole weekend of testing and figuring out stuff ahead :)

Ste you are going to fall in love all over again with the Cobra MK III.

Great move form Frontier as those SP levels are the best way to get to learn how to fly while somewhat 'protected'.

Nice move on the part of the FD of sharing the single player module.
I did upgrade to the Premium Beta to express my approval :)

Side panels are (keyboard) 1 = left (contacts) 2 = middle (focus on radar, no idea who uses that) 3 = right (systems). Or toggle head lock, look left or right.

Here's the map:

Not sure if this helps but good for me...also to help with joy 6 go to control panel, then click on MFD button and untick the clutch button in box
