Steam figures = LOL (but still...)

I love these types of threads.
Steam stats say something bad about ED - "No one uses steam, most people use the launcher"
Steam stats say something good about ED - "See, this supports my argument, launcher? what launcher"

I'd be shocked If I didn't know what a bunch of hypocritical, always got to be right, must protect my purchase choice above all else, egomaniacal zealots we get around here.

SteamSpy doesn't have accurate figures. Sorry to disappoint you, but that's just the way it is. I take their statistics with less than a grain of salt.

That door swings both ways though - There are equally many "must bash a game I don't like above all else, egomaniacal zealots"
In other words, welcome to official game forums. :D

...and if you choose to ignore SteamSpy you can always just cast aspersions on the 1.4million units reported to the UK Stockmarket up to 31st December 2015 %^]

I was going to say that they don't stick around very long if they don't like the game but then I remembered the kickstarter comments section and I concede your point :)

It will end up with a user base across all seasons because not everyone will buy the next season. Original purchasers are already seeing their game messed up because of the expansion they didn't buy and not seeing the things that should have been fixed - e.g. USS's

Hmm presumably when you buy season3 you will get all previous content as well thus the nearly full game price they went with for horizons. Same for season 4 and 5 and 6 etc to avoid such problems.

You're still going to have people who only bought season 1, who are still entitled to play the game they bought. And all those who bought Horizons but nothing more, and so on. Sooner or later there will be an awful lot of different clients to support.

You're just as bad for enabling their behaviour!
Come on admit it, you'd be sad if Oldschool and Wyzak suddenly said "You're right, I'm wrong, I've got better things to do with my life, I'm outta here"

I do concede the point KING5TON

However, do also bear in mind:

- Despite having received a full refund over a year ago, one of them continues to post negative reviews verbatim from where'er they find them.
- The other has vowed to stop posting there only, "...once DB gives a sincere apology" (for offline mode removal)

Therefore I suspect my involvement in repeatedly deconstructing their more-often-than-not-false claims has had little impact on their continual posting.

Yes ofc but presumable as we get on in seasons these people, like myself, will at some point buy one of the new season and get all the previous ones they didn't have with it.

Some like myself find the price of Horizons far too high, don't want to get into why there's the H price thread for that, that might want to support the game if for that same price can get 2 or 3 seasons.

My whole point is they will want at some point to make it real easy for existing player to "catch up" to avoid this.

I would also go along the premise that ED being a niche game will eventually not have that many new buyers in something like 5 years down the road so they will want to encourage us older players to keep supporting the game.

I think the 1.4 is total units ED + EDH but perhaps someone here will post a link for the figure. Steam ED figures are about 600K and EDH are about 60K. As I remember ED figures were much stronger at this point than EDH but that is only my memory of the figures. If ED steam does represent nearly 50% of units (either direct or transferred in via steam key) then EDH does not seem to have done as well as ED by some margin. I assume that Steam will put EDH on sale at some point and EDH figures will then improve a bit.

1.4 mil copiea is ed sold as its sales after first half of 2015 and horizon pre orders started on second half.

I don't want you to stop, I often pop over to the comments if I need a good laugh :)

They sold 1.400.000 copies of ED, I guess no more than 200k units are on xbox.

ED
600k copies on steam
600k copies on frontier store

Horizons
60k copies on steam
60k copies on frontier

But those who bought the game on frontier store are the most loyal customers so I guess it's more like 120k units on frontier store + 60k units from steam.
Also remember that the game is still called early access and that there hasn't been a sale yet.

If you compare that to 360k units sold in february 2015 the numbers don't look bad at all.

I don't think there will be a lot in the older groups still playing 4 years from now, no. Most people will either upgrade once things get cheap, upgrade once they're getting a couple of years' worth of new features or just stop playing by then. But there's bound to be a few stubborn holdouts. And stubborn holdouts tend to be the most vocal at complaining when things don't work.

Eh that what I have been saying mostly peeps will upgrade when its really cheap( a sale) or when they get a few seasons worth of stuff and yes some will just stop playing so they don't really count as they're not playing.

As to saying in 4 years most old timer that are playing now will not be..well I have to disagree..ED is a niche game and IMO has lots of old timer from 1984 that are rather fanatical about the game.

I highly doubt FD will be able to count only on new blood in their 10 year plan.

Well for me personally Horizons didn't bring enough "content" for it's price tag so didn't buy it and probably won't, What I probably will do if they include previous DLC with the current DLC is wait till the next season and hopefully get two for the price of 1, then for me it would be worth the price but there's no way on earth I'm paying 30 quid just to land on a rock.

Yeah, I agree there; sorry I was unclear. I meant that in 4 years time those still bothering to play on any regular basis will have bought at least one upgrade - the cost of planetary landings may be a bit high for some right now (or, like me, they just don't feel they've got bored of the base game and need to pay for extra yet) but if there's nothing new that entices them by year 5 it's probably because they don't want to play Elite any more.
