UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

I think that might be why Alex used quotation marks around the term. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to refer to "EM wave pinging" as "echolocation".

It's called radar.

Though on the subject of no sound in space; I'm assuming that our ships sound rigs are generating these sounds to give additional environmental data to us as they do with engine sounds, etc of other ships. What data are they using to generate the sounds we hear? Are the ships sensors unable to identify the objects, and there's an "unkown object" sound file that they're playing? Is this why the UA and Barnacle appear to sound similar? Or are the ships sensors interpreting some invisible (to us) EM wavelengths (or possibly particulate/ionising radiation) and recreating that as sound?

CMDRs, I NEED YOUR HELP. I'm unable to record any game audio, and I need to harvest a particular sound.

Ideally, I need the sound of an Asp's boost. The Asp has a particularly nice bass boom just before the blast, and I need it for a thing. Preferably without any other noises in it (menu's, guns etc). Just the pre-boost and a few seconds of the afterburner will do.

If you think another ship has a way cooler bass boom and blast, by all means record this too - I haven't flown every ship in the game and I may be missing a trick.

This is not for me - it is for every HERO of the threadnaut.

Radar is specifically Radio-waves though, not EM in general...

About those "sounds" in which we do not find anything.

UAs draw our ships, and for that they need to "see" us. And since they obviously do not have eyes, they are likely to use "echolocation".
Because all the signals we receive are interpreted into the sounds by our ships, these whale "sounds" may be just waves which UAs (and Barnacles) are using to see around them. (I mean that these sounds have nothing to decrypt.)

Let me say this is the first really interesting interpretation of the Purrs. Obviously these waves are not sound waves, because of the void, but the idea is very scientific. The Purrs could simply be the action/representation of the UA sensing/scanning its surroundings.

Even if them simply being the sound of the UA breathing, is the simplest explaination ever. And Occam would like this.

I just happen to be flying my Asp now... OBS has been playing up so I've not used it, but let me give it a try.

Hi all.

Just to mention that sometimes nebula are not always so obvious!

Check this out.

Hi all my first post.
Seems i found something alien!!!

And of course i do not have horizons to investigate it my self.

System is in Bernards Loop

View attachment 99367

Can somebody with horizons check it out please

Mmm, seems more a glitch to me. If you don't have horizons, the planetary landing textures and settlements are not loaded. So you only see the base planet texture. Anyway it is worth a look for sure!

... A good reason to buy Horizons now, isn't it? ;)

At first I thought it was a Graphical glitch. But it was always in the same spot.

The closer I flew toward these marks, the clearer they became.
Its located inside a crater on a high metal world. Outside our galaxy. I am hunting for materials to boost my FSD to fly even further south.

It seems that something stripped something off the surface, its almost burned soil. I wish I could take soil samples.
The patterns are not natural. I can drive from strip to strip in my SRV and find nothing out of the ordinary.
So what happened here? Is it the remains of some ancient battle. Some kind of alien farm field? The remains of an alien strip mining field?
I dont know.
I will continue to explore this field until I find something or some material.
Did any other commander stumble across something like this?
This is why I love exploring. To find the unknown.

Has anyone been monitoring spawns at all since the last update. I'v got 4 permanent barny spawns In Pleades Sector JC-U B3-2 Planet 2. They are on the spreadsheet. Is anything like this occuring elsewhere?
