Cycle 33
Cycle 34 is complete and the raw data is out.
Fortification, Preparation and Expansion
ALD had no expansions this week, but Hudson did, so you can see Hudson dominating the total merits again with just under 2 million merits in his expansions.
ALD was second in total merits, with just over 1 million merits in fortification, and Aisling was slightly behind in 3rd place.
4th to 10th was again very close together, but far behind the 3rd position.
Winters was once more 4th, with Antal 5th, Delaine 6th and Patreus very close behind on 7th position.
Mahon, who has been 1st for a long time, only did the 8th most amount of merits.
You can also see the large proportion of merits that are earnt in expansions for Antal, Delaine and Patreus, who along with ALD and Hudson, are the 5 powers who have combat expansions.
On the effective chart, Hudson easily takes the first place, Aisling second, ALD third and Winters fourth.
The other 6 power all have a more similar number of merits.
You can also see Hudson was the only power to expand, so he is the only power with any effective expansions merits.
Undermining and Opposition
The total opposition chart is quite different to normal, there is a steady reduction between all the powers, normally there are 3 or 4 with a high amount, and 4 with a low amount.
Winters had a massive 1.5 million merits in just undermining, which is a new record.
Delaine and Mahone received their usual high amounts of opposition, with Patreus and Antal getting a much larger number of opposition to their expansions than they usually would.
Looking at the effective chart, Winters got over 500000 effective merits in undermining, which is a very large amount, but not a record.
Delaine received the most effective opposition to his expansions, at over 40% of all opposition, but he was put into Turmoil (I've not had to type that before) so it was all wasted effort.
Patreus and Antal received nearly all of the actual effective opposition.
Patreus, ALD, Delaine, Mahon and Hudson all had a similar amount of effective undermining, with Antal getting a very small amount of effective undermining.
ALD had a very high efficiency rate of undermining between her total and effective numbers, at 80%.
Weekly Charts
You can clearly see the record number of total fortification merits ALD just did on the left hand side chart.
The difference between the top 3 and the bottom 7 amount of total fortification done each week is also very easy to see.
On the effective chart you can see the progress Winters has made to be part of the "top 4", taking a lead over Mahon, who has dipped a bit.
The lesser fortification merits from Mahon isn't an indication of any problems though, they are fortifying as much as they need to, if they fortified more, they would have to prepare more.
On the left hand side chart, the total undermined chart, Winters received a new record number of total undermining, just passing what Hudson had many weeks ago.
You can also clearly see the changes in PP merits. The first large increase was when undermining merits went up form 15 per kill to 30 per kill.
The decrease around cycle 18 was the 1.4 patch changes, which made interdiction much harder.
Recently undermining has returned back to where it was in cycle 18.
The new highest total amount of undermining that Winters received didn't translate into the highest ever amount of effective undermining, but it was the highest amount of effective undermining Winters has ever had.
Score
The score, once again, is difficult to understand for all the Powers.
Torval, Aisling and Delaine went into Turmoil.
Torval had the biggest drop in her score, with 3 systems in Turmoil.
Delaine had a 10% drop in his score, also with 3 systems in Turmoil.
Aisling had a slight increase in her score (56 to 59) with 2 systems in Turmoil.
Aislings score should have went down around 10%, which would put her in 7th position.
Mahon's score went down by the 3rd most, after Torval and Delaine, Mahon failed to expand.
Somehow Mahon failing to expand was worse than Aisling going into Turmoil.
ALD got out of Turmoil but lost 4 systems, which is the only bad thing that can happen in PP (even if they wanted to lose these systems).
Winters score went up, but failed all expansions.
Sirius got out of Turmoil, which increased his score.
Hudson was the only power to expand, which increased his score.
Antal and Patreus both lose expansions, which would normally decrease your score, but their scores stayed level, probably because nearly everyone failed their expansions.
The main issue that stick out to me are why did Aislings score go up, and why did Mahons score go down?
Commentary and Speculation
Zachary Hudson 86%
The President made it back into the top position, with the only expansion any Power made last week.
He still trails Mahon by 12 Control Systems, but this was somehow enough to take the lead.
Hudson also did the most amount of merits (total and effective), and was able to prepare 3 profitable systems.
One of the systems is an ex-Sirius system, all are winning easily right now, and all 3 should easily win by the end of the cycle.
The Kumo Crew and Patreus have both been publicly targeted by Hudson, which is a strange combination.
Recently Hudson has been seeing a drop in undermining, with Winters getting about twice as much as Hudson this week.
With Mahon having no expansions, and Hudson getting 3 this week, he should retain the number one position again, unless put into Turmoil, but I suspect this won't change his score much and he could still be number 1.
Edmund Mahon 80%
The Prime Minister dropped down to the 2nd position for the first time since cycle 27.
He failed to expand, and also didn't have enough cc for any preparations, which together with Hudson getting the only expansion, was enough for the position swap.
Mahon still received his usual very high amount of undermining, about 1.1 million merits, again with no public entity taking credit.
Mahon was also able to stay out of Turmoil with only the 8th most total merits, but this total is partially down because he had no preparations.
With the most control systems by far, Mahon should still have the highest "underlying" score, but with no expansions this week, he should't be able to retain the 1st position at the end of the cycle.
Winters is only 5% behind him this week, so its possible Winters could move ahead of him, but unlikely.
3rd position (can't believe I'm saying that so soon) is the worst he should be, but 2nd seems much more likely.
Felicia Winters 75%
The Shadow President faced a record amount of total undermining, but not quite a record amount of effective undermining.
This lower effective amount is partially due to Winters having less systems than Mahon, ALD and Hudson, so there is less ability for her to be effectively undermined more.
Winters didn't win an expansion but her score increased again, putting her only 5% behind Mahon.
With ALD losing 4 systems, this puts Winters on the equal 3rd amount of systems with ALD, on 67.
Winters has a slight population lead over ALD if this means anything, so may have a higher "underlying" score.
The system of Amuzgo has been prepared, which is another weaponised expansions aimed at the Empire, and ALD has listed it as their main target.
Winters was also victim of a bug which was reported by Mahon players October, and seems to have effected Mahon, ALD and Delaine, if not every Power.
The Galaxy map and Preparation screen doesn't show an accurate value for the preparation costs of systems, being out by 5cc or so.
Although the numbers on their Preparation screen showed they could afford 2 systems, only 1 could actually be afforded, so Winters has only one expansion this week, only which is already losing 5 to 1.
Because of this it is unlikely Winters will win her expansion (although they have shown in the past they can win it if they really want to throw credits at it) and Winters should not overtake Mahon.
With the expansion failing, this will likely decrease her score, allowing ALD to move in front of her into 3rd position.
This may not happen, but thats my prediction, 4th place for Winters.
Aisling Duval 59%
Aisling Duval went into Turmoil but managed to increase her score relative to everyone else.
One of her systems in Turmoil is a mediocre one, probably the target of her undermining herself, but the second system is a profitable one, which was probably sniped, which is always a possibility when trying to enter Turmoil to shed bad systems.
Aisling won the preparation war with Patreus over the area that was freed up the week before by ALD losing Nyalayan, nothing has really been raised in public about Aisling and Patreus going after ex-ALD territory.
At the same time there was a very active thread about "Torval stabbing Aisling" in the back over the ex-Aisling (must have been theirs months ago) system of Kalana, which Torval has controlled for quite a while.
Whether there is back stabbing going on or not, this is the reality of the galaxy map right now, if a Power loses a system, someone else will probably try to move into there.
With the 4 Imperial Powers all being each others closest neighbor, this will happen most frequently.
With the Piracy Mechanics use coming into full swing, from the outside it looks like Aisling was responsible for Torvals Turmoil, but I doubt this was actually the case.
Unfortunately the Piracy Mechanic is mostly being used in an exploitative manner, and there is no actually piracy being done, just merits being manufactured, and it is the most powerful weapon in the 5th Columnist arsenal.
Aisling has one other expansion, which is loss making, so it is unclear as to what they will want to do, they wont want to lose both systems to Turmoil, but winning both expansions will be more harmful.
If Aisling gets out of Turmoil, and wins her expansions, she may still move under ALD.
Arissa Lavigny-Duval 57%
ALD moved up back into the top 5.
4 systems were lost to Turmoil out of 5, but these were systems than the ALD players were trying to lose, and her starting CC balance has been improved by around 200cc.
It is still negative, but a vast improvement on the old amount, and it will be much more difficult for ALD to be pushed into Turmoil to make her expansions fail.
As noted above, ALD had a very high proportion of effective undermining, and with no Power publicly targeting her, "piracy" would have been the method used for the majority of undermining.
With the same number of systems as Winters ALD has moved a fair bit down in the ranks, but she should be able to automatically win all her expansions in the next few weeks, which will put her back in the 2nd to 3rd position in no time.
The main concern for ALD now will be to not expand to unprofitable systems, which will undo all their hard work.
With no power targeting ALD this week, they may end the cycle with a large number of CC, not over fortifying may be their primary concern after opposing the Winters expansion into their territory.
Li Yong-Rui 54%
Sirius moved back up to 6th, with a score very close to Aisling and ALD.
He has enough CC to prepare 3 or 4 systems, which will need many merits to push the inevitable bad systems from the list.
With a starting cc balance of 114, and his next expansion pushing his overheads up by 186, a system with a profit of over 72 will be needed for them to have a non negative starting balance.
Unfortunately quite a few of his profitable systems that were lost have been taken by other powers, so its becoming more and more difficult for him to recover back to where he was.
He has no expansions this week, so its possible Antal could move in front of him, but he still has a 6 system lead over him, so could still be in front of Antal.
Torval has the same number of systems, and if she gets out of Turmoil, and wins her expansion, Sirius should be in 7th position.
Pranav Antal 45%
Antal retained his 7th position and had a low level of undermining, but had a large amount of expansion opposition, and was unable to win any of his expansions.
He was able to win the preparation war with Patreus for Kenna, and once again this area that Patreus once had is trying to be expanded into.
Kenna has been listed as the main focus for Patreus, and the Utopians will be careful to fortify enough to ensure they don't lose this time because of Turmoil.
With Patreus having no expansions of his own, and putting a similar number of merits into his expansions last week as Antal did, it should be a close battle if the other Imperial Powers don't get involved.
Should Antal win both expansions, he could move ahead of Sirius, and stay in front of Torval, putting him in 6th place.
Zemina Torval 40%
Torval hit Turmoil and fell back from 4th to 8th, one of the biggest drops in PP.
She had an unprofitable system that would have been expanded to, so Turmoil was either planned, or good fortune.
Torval managed to prepare a system in the same area as Patreus was trying to prepare, which is a higher income system for her, and one they will want to expand to.
Because of this they may want to not stay in Turmoil, but losing the 3 systems that are in Turmoil will improve her starting CC balance.
No power has publicly targeting Torval this week, so getting out of Turmoil may be easy, but perhaps not.
Torval could be in 6th position, above Antal and Sirius, if she gets out of Turmoil and wins her expansion.
Denton Patreus 36%
Patreus had an expansion for the first time in a few weeks, and received a much higher amount of opposition than usual, although this is partially due to there being more competition for the remaining systems and every power is receiving more opposition.
He was unable to win any of his preparations, with Antal, Aisling and Torval out prepping him, some very close to the end.
Publicly Patreus is targeting Antals expansion at Kenna, but it is unclear if they will be able to get help from other Imperial Powers to stop the expansion.
Both Winters and Hudson have again targeted Patreus, so he will have to do a similar amount of fortifying as last week.
With less systems than Antal, and no expansion this week, Patreus should remain in 9th position, but if Delaine gets out of Turmoil and wins his expansion, Patreus could be back in 10h.
Archon Delaine 18%
The Pirate Lord fell into Turmoil last week, the last power to experience this.
It certainly took quite a while but it has finally happened.
3 systems are currently in Turmoil, 2 Independent and one Federation.
Both Federation Powers have targeting Delaine for undermining, and the IHC has again posted Delaine as their only Target.
The IHC post has only been stickied to the Patreus reddit, and with the opening of a new joint Imperial group, The Imperial Coalition, it is unclear if this is the end of the IHC, which as far as I know, only ever announced joint attacks on Archon Delaine.
As happened to Winters, Archon Delaine encountered a bug with the reportable preparation costs of systems not being accurate. He had only 55cc to prep with, but was unable to prep systems that reported less cc cost than this, and by the time the problem was realised (the person who pointed it out knows who he is
) there was already 15000 merits in the only system on the list.
15000 merits isn't much to the larger powers, but this constitutes over 20% of Delaines normal fortification merits, (like 200000 for ALD) so nothing could be done about the bug.
If Delaine loses his 3 systems but gets out of Turmoil, his score should jump back up as has happened to other powers leaving Turmoil, and if he wins his expansion he should be back in 9th position, only 3 Control Systems behind Patreus.
If all 3 systems are lost he will be 7 Control Systems behind Patreus.
Cycle 34 is complete and the raw data is out.
