Was just thinking this myself, If the Thargoids/Aliens turn up in suped-up human ships it would be a huge let down for me, I would go as far as calling it Lazy on FD's part.

Let's hope that isn't what's happening here.

Like Luniticisi says, it's very easy to write up a plot device that allows for lazy / cheap game development. I'd actually be very surprised if the forums didn't go into melt-down if this turns out to be the case. I personally would be most unimpressed.

Unless of course the real Thargoids/Alien ships turn up very soon after.

Maybe, but if it's just for first contact then to me it makes sense. Anyhow I think the point is moot because I don't think it's the Thargoids, I still think it's something to do with Caine Massey.

Ha, if FD went through all this work with the UA mystery just to avoid the work of creating custom alien ships, I think they would deserve some kind of award for the greatest troll of all time.

This Galnet post is bizarre because the way it's written it just seems like completely trivial non-news. A well-known ship flew near a station, but didn't decide to dock, scanned, and left... and it warrants a Galnet post? Whaa? The only possibly interesting thing is the "high speed pass". And apparently the name is unusual, despite an incredible variety of names in this game, meaning it's just another name, I don't know.

It keeps contradicting itself, it makes no sense. It's an unidentified spacecraft, and yet it's just a DBE. It was a close-quarters encounter, and yet it was 10km away. This is so weirdly (poorly) written.

It'll take you a couple minutes, it's not that far. Consider taking a Diamondback Explorer
Just make sure you don't go 10km from a station and then leave, you'll get way too much Galnet attention.

Yeah. If you count the number of times I've buzzed past other CMDRs at high speed and then rocketed away... then I should be classified as an unidentified spacecraft. A little more detail on just WHY this is "out of the ordinary" and "new worthy" would be nice.

Even better : what if there are no aliens / Thargoids AIs and you can only fight player piloted duplicates of our current spacecrafts ?
On the bright side, it should be possible to fly those in multicrew. Great.

If that happened I would be unimpressed with the forum.

Just wish we'd stop trying to push how it should or should not be done and take the story for what it is without the criticism.

Even if the S ships turn out to be Thargoid infiltration units I see no issue with this, the plot is clearly slow-burn, I see no issue with small iterative steps.

Makes me wonder though... are these Thargoids, or rogue AIs?

Random theory time:
UA = Rogue AI, Barnacle = Something else.

Barnacle definitely related to the UA in some way, but the two are still quite different. Rogue AI found some way to incorporate the Barnacles into their "appearance and effects", and now the UAs have been scanning our ships, they've also started replicating them and incorporating their appearance and effects also.

Or completely unrelated...
