A cautionary tale

After weeks of not really getting anywhere with my sidewinder with burst lasers. Getting up to maybe 6000 and then back down to 5 again. I equipt 1 gimballed beam laser and then earned enough for another one. Then in the quest for a cobra played 6 hours straight through no stopping me. 100 kills thats an awful lot of twisting and turning and quite a few stops for repairs. Anyway 44000 a few more or back and pick up a brand new cobra ? Do i get to keep my beam lasers who knows ?
Anyway got blasted so back and yes new cobra ! Do you keep your beam lasers ? No you dont. Not to worry just enough money for an extra pulse laser. Then out for a spin.
However while looking at the nav menu it inextricably blew up !
Of course i had spent the insurance money on naff weaponry so that leaves me with....
A sidewinder with pulse lasers and 480 credits !!
At least when your at the bottom the only way is up !!

Bascially you are saying that you had to work hard for a Cobra, died and had no money left so you had to start from the bottom again?

Minti2

Deadly, But very fluffy...
Yeh i had it for like out of the station where shall i go and then boom gone in a puff of smoke ! Never fired a shot !

You hit the infamous invisible wall outside the station i believe(a bug)

To avoid this as soon as you leave the station you veer away and not stay in a straight direction before you hyperspace away(something like that!)

At least your optimistic and just getting on with it ;)

At least you'll only pay 50% when your ship will blows up in the released game!

Not really a big deal TBH, money is plentiful after playing a while. I was loaded in Elite II. So all those making a stink about the 50% off are making mountains from molehills.

I leant so much from the original game about life. Risks ,controllable risk computer failures etc. Now I'm older I take a like more care. I know its only alpha and a game.

Was pretty miffed about that as well.

My cheese wedge mk2 (cobra mk3) decided to go spinning out of control inside the dock area and suicide.

What really ticked me off was that if I had been compensated for the fully loaded cheese wedge mk1 (sidewinder) I would have had plenty of credits to pay the 'death tax'.

They could at least give me back my original cheese wedge, instead it all just disappears into the ether.

or just press control + alt + delete, and log back in again?

Yeah, I tried that.
Unfortunately this is like the one time the game didn't do a roll back for me.

Welcome to life in the alpha zone.

I know how you feel, been there and done that... I swear there is a bubble around the space station or an invisible asteroid. I have hit something a few times. Make sure you have spare funds when buying your cobra so you can afford 2500 +/- for each insurance claim, best have an extra 10k is my recommendation.
