Alpha 4 to be released in May?

One has to place volumes in cubic measurements. Could be a sphere. Could be a cube, could be a wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey thing.

Indeed one does - 200 cubic light years would be a cube with a side length of approximately 5.85 LY, a sphere with a diameter of approximately 7.25 LY in diameter or even an ellipsoid approximately 8 LY x 3 LY x 2 LY.

Image you posted most probably included "work in progress" version of sector map and it was posted half year ago or so. Why do you think i has anything in common with next alpha build?

Because FD seldom releases anything unless they are happy with the results.

This is the first concept they showed of the docking procedure in the beginning of June last year...

I would say that's pretty close to what we later got 10 months later. ;)

Whatever we'll get will of course be a refined version, but one the whole it will probably be along those lines.

Perhaps FD messed up with their terminology and meant a cube with sides of 200 LY, it would be nice if someone from FD could clarify that.

In some ways the smaller area makes sense though. If they're still trying to fix netcode they wouldn't want us to be too spread out.

Honestly I was hoping that Alpha 4 would arrive before May, especially after the announcement of the Premium Beta date and the suggestion that Alphas get it 2 weeks before. Unless Alpha 4 is in fact the Premium Beta?

May 4th seems very unlikely as it's a Sunday. The 2nd is a Friday and FD have form for releasing Alpha builds on Fridays, so maybe. The downside is that it's a long weekend being a public holiday in the UK on the 5th.

I find it quite strange that FDev would post the alpha 4 release date in the store description without some sort of public announcement.

As someone else stated it's only a 6x6x6 cube, or a little less, so there probably aren't going to be that many stars in it.

I'd be happy with 3 or so.

I'm sure I read that in ED, one sector side make 10 light years. I speak of a sector, not the cube, of course

I thought that it was confirmed that Alpha 4 would be released 2 weeks before premium Beta, so that would be 16th of May.
It was stated that the Beta build would be released two weeks earlier to the alpha backers, probably in order to avoid bugs like the spinning orange sidewinder of death.

They've done a great job of turning concepts into real game assets. From the space station to capital ship its quite impressive imo.

Where are you?

Montreal, east coast. I crashed multiple times in the belt today, federation bond didn't work at all, either crashed as soon as I hyperspaced to it or loading screen spins indefinitely.

Yesterday evening it was laggy as hell when it did work, ships would warp constantly or jump around.

Saw that date, very disappointed.

Expected it as early as ... Right now... I though definitely next Friday

Really, alpha 4 is the same thing as the beta? where do you get that from?

what i had in mind was that a4 would possibly come later this month(it was said that the date would be given "shortly", has it been given yet?) and beta next month.

Edit : ok just read the op this time ... :D though it's more like :(

but i still dont get the idea that alpha 4 is the same as the beta but it's seem more likely now

Yes, that's Alpha 4.0 and it released approx. 16th of May, two weeks before the Premium beta on 30th of May.
