I just realized I overlooked the bit where it was already answered:

Have all the nopes, Zac, and share them with the rest of the team. Exclusive ships - and now permanently exclusive, even - are a terrible idea. You basically have to make them bad or extremely niche lest you suffer rightful accusations of pay to win. And even when it is not particularly powerful, are you willing to tell the kid who gets the game for her 10nth birthday in 2020 (i.e. a plausible scenario why someone could absolutely not "just have bought the game earlier"), why their favourite ship they spotted in a space station will forever be unavailable for them because of a marketing gig way back in 2015/2016? I am only half jesting here, it is an extremely frustrating experience to join a game late and then find out about all the cool things you will never get to play with because they were locked behind past exclusivity gateways.

I understand but you can see the reasons why at the moment it's not possible. As I said, it's not something we won't consider making available in the future.

So I play 1.5 on a Mac
I have 2.0 on a boot camp partition on my Mac, but hardly every play that
will I still be able to play 1.5, then presumably 1.6 on my native Mac?

Because I don't think it is clear at all...

How does this work in terms of current and future beta access users?

It won't be available on the store from tomorrow. However, everyone that already has it will still have beta access as before. Nothing has changed for existing users.

The team are investigating how the beta might be made available again in the future but no news right now.

Cobra Mk.4 can't be Pay2Win, for a single reason, is a piece of crap, Cobra Mk.3 is far better.

You speak like you (FD as a whole) were subject to some legal regulation or force of nature here. You (FD as a whole) decided to begin this "exclusive ship" gig in the first place. I had hoped you would quickly leave that path for good, now you are instead cementing it.

There is also the inverse idea. Cobra MK IV is so bad in order to not risk any P2W accusations. (It's actually not that bad, it's a mini-Python basically.)

So if I understand this correctly:

ED: gets you 1.6, but not 2.0 or any of the 2.x updates
ED: Horizons Season Pass gets you 2.0 and all the 2.x updates, but you can't go back to 1.6.
ED: Deluxe includes both, & some digital goodies.

Not quiet. The Horizons Season Pass will only work if you own Elite Dangerous. So instead it is...

ED: Gets you 1.6, but not 2.0 or any of the 2.x updates but will include 1.7 etc.
ED: Horizons Season Pass gets you 2.0 and all the 2.x updates, but requires Elite Dangerous
ED: Deluxe includes both, & some digital goodies. - Yeah basically.

Revenue now > revenue later. FD will, like any company, find ways of generating revenue earlier than later. If this requires them to create some digital asset, and it doesn't significantly impact their ability to generate revenue later, then they will in all likelihood go for it. As they should, otherwise by the time that kid comes round to her 10th birthday Elite: Dangerous will be a distant memory.

I've alluded to it - doing it with cosmetics like paintjobs or bobbleheads would be a far better approach. It may be annoying to not get a pure black paintjob because you joined late, but this a far cry from what it means to be locked out of a ship.

Perfect, many thanks.

Zac, what about the T-shirts in the store that are out of stock? For example the gold logo shirt or the Cobra MkIII blueprint shirt? These have been low/out of stock for quite a long time now, and I for one would like to buy a couple before Lavecon.

Greetings Commanders,

We wanted to get in touch to let you know about a few changes that we will be making tomorrow and bring you into the conversation with a little bit of early information.

Thanks
Zac, people who buy only Horizons before tomorrow, will see tomorrow in account info Elite: Dangerous Original & Horizons Season Pass, right?

Why is everyone always moaning? I think exclusivity is a great idea, I wish I could have been a backer right from kick starter, but I can't, wrong place, wrong time.
I'm happy about the gold Asp as I am that I got a lifetime pass when I could, sad I couldn't but more than one at the time due to cashflow.
It's cool that you can have a rare ingame item because you had the nous to get in early.
Good job FD sorting the confusion on Horizons, keep up the good work 👍

Seriously, Cobra mk4 is not a pay2win ship. This ship is not giving any advantage... but what if FD put new ships only for DLC seaons owners? GOOD. They should. FD is the company, there are people working and they need to eat something. In my opinion there should be a pack of new ships in every season and these ships should be accessible only for seasons owners, and yes - they should give some advantage.

Not ships by a real cash, but a DLC one on the year for 25 gpb is not a problem to pay. Good game - so reward the devs and buy DLC.

Zac, Haters gonna hate, there will be always a group of unpleasant people. There is no one on the world who pleased everyone, so just do the job and do not worry ;)

Cobra MK IV is not for all Horizon-owners. Only those who bought the base game and Horizons before tomorrow. I'd have no issue with some ship only being accessible if you have the DLC with which they were released.

I like the new changes, as they will lessen confusion.

A question concerning lifetime pass owners:
Will we get the digital goodies of this and or future seasons deluxe editions for free?

The lifetime passes and backers stay exactly the same. The digital goodies are the eagle andsidey packs and a bobble head. All items which are available in the store. It's just something to get started with as a new player.
