Agreed. We have paid over the odds as premium beta supporters, you alpha players have had all the perks, being able to reserve our commander names early would be a good move by FD imo.
I think they might have to at that point, or just have a load of Beta Backer #xxxxxx pilots flying about, which will just be confusing.Difficult to answer this question. Frontier said it will put something in place later, for that the backers of the new store, are choosing their name of the commander. But when ? That is the question

actually its nothing to do with alpha, £25 during the kickstarter got your name reserved. Everyone else is called alphabacker some number. You may be betabacker some number for a while.
Who knows when we'll see that option. I'd expect it to get implemented sometime during the beta stage (such a basic thing needs to be in place in time for gamma), hopefully rather early on, would be nice.
I'm looking forwards to choosing my commander name, hopefully as an early backer of the game - premium beta - i'll have an opportunity to reserve my name before the game goes out to the general public.
Until then, my lips are sealed, no hints of what I'd like to choose as my name. Can't risk someone stealing my good ideas.![]()
Hey ive got alpha and dont get a commander name it was a kickstarter thing for which i did pledge something but i pledged paypal on the kickstarter page so again nothing.
However its a great game so far im enjoying it and we have not even got half the content yet. So im cool !
Just think commander #55645 im not a number im a free man !
How do you automate checking that names are not swear words or rude (in English, let alone in Swahili)? Or that they contravene trademarks, etc? My understanding was that it was those sorts of reasons that there was a manual check.Once an automatic system is in place I imagine it will be released to all of us at that point (who have access at that point).)

Of course, if the game gets as big as we all want it to be, manual checking may simply not fly. I guess they may have to rely on some standard swear filters and then a reporting mechanism where people who spot naughty names can tell FD, so FD can sort it out.
