Where has Frontier stated this?

There was nothing like this on the Horizons Beta store page https://archive.is/y8oDc and I see a moderator here has said (for what it is worth) "You bought access to the Beta phase of Horizons, which is over. "

They did not say it but last year, all major updates ran their own individual beta phase before they made it into the release. Wings, CQC, Powerplay and 1.5 all ran separate betas. Why would it be different this time?

I expect that there will be Beta phases for the four 2.x releases, just as Beta access for Elite: Dangerous allowed players to test the five 1.x beta releases.

This is correct - if there are other betas within Horizons, prior to the release of one of the updates, if you have the Beta pass, you will have access to them. It's up to FD if they run betas for them or not, but for large updates, they do tend to.

I've edited my previous post to remove any confusion.

"You bought access to the Beta phase of Horizons, which is over (however if there are any other betas for expansions within Horizons, you will have access to those)."

Is "if there are any other betas for expansions within Horizons, you will have access to those" from an official Frontier statement, or just speculation?

Just to point out something since you seem to be new: Moderators like Slopey above are players like us and in most cases have no more information than we do. :)

It is speculation although historically there has not ever been a major update without a beta. Also historically it has been stated by developers that beta's have proved very useful to both sides. The only thing we know for sure is that there has been no statement saying betas have stopped and I'd be very very surprised if they were stopped. What you are asking is similar to saying "Will Asda stop selling apples", it's a silly question really and its 99.99% probable that they won't stop but there is a chance Asda could decide not to. <- If you like the apple metaphor that is :p

To be fair it's a moot point since beta access is no longer being sold. Either you have it or you do not. :p

Backed the game being an original BBC player in the 80’s. loved it. Not got a PC able to play games so my copy of Elite is still sitting there. I was annoyed when you added up my £20 KS buy and the Horizon expansion even with the £10 off it cost £50. To that of someone new to the game buying just horizons for £40 and getting the base game.

If I got still the £10 discount on the £20 horizons id snap it up. At least with the sale price it gets you level with newcomers in my case at £40.

Can anyone tell me if next season pass will include Horizons as well?

As I’ve still to play only buying would be to support Frontier just now. Love what I see and love they are beginning to add content to bring the game to life.

Here's what Zac has said on his other thread:

...everyone that already has it will still have beta access as before. Nothing has changed for existing users.
Players that have beta access through a previous product will still be able to access.

So this implies that beta phases will continue.

Can you imagine the uproar if FD said "no more betas" given how many people have paid for it i.e. £10 extra on top of Horizons, LEP etc.

I'm not a Frontier employee, and I can't point you to a statement - pure speculation on my part.

Also - beta access for the 1.x versions included a period of beta access for 1.2, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5. Therefore it's reasonable to assume that 2.x beta access will be similar. I think the beta access for Horizons mentioned beta access to all betas in the season. The only thing we don't know for 100% sure is whether each major point release will have a beta, but based on past history it would be a good bet to expect a 1 to 2 week beta before each major point release.

To hell with your sale Frontier... I hope you're feeling the sting of your poor choices, especially in reference to Horizons. Why would I spend more money on a game that prioritizes its upgrades so lazily? I can't even change my GUI color, the HUD is the same ol' boring layout, and nearly every ship is a lame, slightly, different variant of the ships offered at launch. Where's the creativity? I think you'll find that you are simply creating a divide within your player base and interest will dwindle. By the time you do implement all your grand plans the game will be losing out to other more interesting space games. I really wanted this game to be thee space game that I spent most of my time on due to its realism in the Milky Way, but the lack of variety is staggering even considering the size of the game. I can certainly draw parallels to another British company that priced their customers out-GamesWorkshop

The best is still to come

;)

I'm confused. The ship launched fighters aren't part of multi crew? I hope a bunch more comes with that update besides the afore mentioned fighters. That's not a lot to look forward to.

After long contemplation, I bought Horizons last Thursday and 2 days later I read about the sale.
Do I have reasons to be sour or did I get about the same deal? Did I get the "Seasons Pass" too, is the main question, I think.

Horizons is the Season Pass. You now have Elite Dangerous, and the Horizons Season Pass.

If you already owned Elite Dangerous before you bought Horizons, you also have the ability to buy the Cobra Mk IV in-game, and a free golden Asp skin.

Thanks a lot.
I did not own Dangerous, so I am a complete beginner and since I am a complete beginner, I do not care very much (yet) about liveries or 1 extra ship.
I was worried I would have to pay for updates, because I didn't order 2 days later during the sale.
But I understand it right I only lose some liveries and that one cobra?

You only don't get the one skin (for an Asp), and access to the Cobra Mk IV (you're not missing anything with that one either, the Cobra Mk III is still the better ship).

You will get all the updates in the Horizons Season (this year) for free.

So I paid $60 for Elite Dangerous and now, on sale, I have to pay $30 for Horizons and all this years updates (season pass) for a total of $90 not including tax. For just over a year I've owned this glitchy, half-baked, anti-multiplayer, anti-customization digital copy of a game. A new comer can have access to all content for $60? I'm I missing something here? My digital copy has zero resale value and Elite Dangerous still behaves like a free to play in beta. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.-sincerely, dissatisfied customer

Resale value? Sounds like you need a new form of entertainment, gaming is all about just having fun so when people start talking about resale it just shows that they have little or no actual interest in gaming. For reference Elite Dangerous provides all the extras for those that want to enjoy it so if you have no interest in those that's fine and covers everyone so if you just wan't the base game then you can just enjoy that too. You know if you were like me and many others then you were happy to pay at realease and pay for horizon's too if you wanted and received a 25% discount for doing so and don't feel that i've been conned or anything like that but it just doesn't sound like you enjoy the game which you are more than entitled, see you around the galaxy Commander.

I understand that you guys are waiting for Horizons and that these promotions aren't directly relevant for you. However, the changes in products and store is relevant for all players including Xbox One players.

In terms of development there are people actively working on Horizons and store for Xbox One and we will have more information as and when we are able to.

Remember that there has recently been Xbox sale and promotions as well as community activity and support for Xbox too.

I understand you can't wait to play, that really is awesome. We will have more news once it is ready.
I sound probably like an irritate console fanboy but I'm just saying I do understand that all these changes will be relevant when we get Horizons.
Just make sure that you guys don't go over the top with this waiting phase because it will cost customers, I'm saying this because I LOVE this game.
Best game in a long time that I played and that says a lot :)
