I cant describe how angry i am to have missed this by about 2 hours... a greater discount for the cutter is basically what im waiting for since horizons came out. Its not the first time that small errors bring significant advantages for a short period of time and in some way i always feel cheated for missing them because i know others were lucky and i was not. :(

Nooooo, why wasn't this mentioned before I bought the python. In the CG description it only said outfitting, so I bought the python before it finished.

I was there killing traders and trying to undermine the community goal, but I still got the Cutter discount xD lol

this is whats wrong, kinda. CG's should be better rewarding for poeple participating in it.

like 30% for those helping, 20% for everyone else, only 15% for those having worked against it.

So... in summary:

The promised/achieved community goal for 30% discount on outfitting has been delivered and is available to all, for unlimited time.

Due to a typo of some manner, there was briefly a period where 30% was off ships, against all expectations.

People rushed to take advantage of the discount 'before it goes', seemingly knowing that it was taking advantage of an error.

Error was fixed.

People who weren't able to exploit the error feel robbed and are raising bug reports *for not having chance to exploit a bug*.

Is that about it?

Yes, that sounds right. I'm a bit sad I didn't get to buy my 2nd Cutter. Though I still should be making at least 50M profit, since I did downgrade my first one, on re buying bulkheads and shields.

But if they fixed it so quickly it was clearly an exploit.
IMO that is wrong. It cannot be labeled "exploit" only because it was fixed quickly. How should players know about this could be an exploit ? The error could also be in the description, maybe Frontier had only forgotten to put "Ships and Outfitting" in the text (Elite has many text errors). An exploit is using a mechanic for which there is not the smallest doubt that it was unintended. And this is not the case here IMO, so it does not qualify for an exploit. And therefore no punishment for the lucky ones.
After they fixed it we now all know what was meant by Frontier.
Yes, I also could not get an discounted cutter myself because I had to work but I thats only bad luck. If I would have been on vacation than I would have been the lucky one now. I see no injustice here. Next time we may be the lucky ones.

You missunderdtood.

It is an injustice. If you defend this, then you like injustices.

I want to play under the same rules as the other players.

If there is some kind of advantage, then id like to know it. And well, i know that now.

I dont mind how other players play the game, but the rules should be the same for all, not only for "clever?" gamers.

Injustice is definitly the right word here... the 30% discount comes with a significant reduction of insurance costs and can be seen as a life time value as long as you dont sell your ship and it is unlikely that you can get this advantage somewhere again. The key to avoid negative feelings is to tread all players equal. If the devs can live with their mistake it would be just to change the global reward officialy to ships and outfitting, if they decide that they cant live with their mistake it would be just to revert all discounted purchases. Inequality leads to injustice.

No, its just the same old "I hate my life because the luck of others".
This and ...

...that!

Congratz to those who got the discount. To all others, including me, better luck next time. ;)

I could live with the promise that there WILL be a next time... I never saw a 30% discount on ships since elite came out when they dont want that that now its very unlikely that this will ever happen again.

Or go and help the mining effort cg, where there is a legitimate shipyard discount on offer as a reward.

5% Discount and no Cutters...

To be honest, I do not get it really,

The more the money the posters here have, the harder the rant they do.
I am just waiting for Ebeneezer Scrooge to do his post here.

I do understand some disappointment in the one way, but for those with the small wallet
the reason to be dissapointed is a bigger one. Those for running for a Cutter or similar I
apologize not having too much comprehension for them.

Take it as a sportsman, you lost nothing. You just don't get the price.

Regards,
Miklos

I had heard about it yesterday and re-bought my Python there. Didn't really save all that much as I had to reuse my old components, but at least the insurance cost is lower, which is nice.

Honestly, the ship discount was the only thing that made Onnes worth it. The outfitting screen had *incredibly poor* options, to the point where there was really nothing I could purchase for the Python. Thrusters capped at class 3, Power Plant didn't have the A-rated options I was looking for, FSD capped at B5, etc etc ...

It's sad that they removed the ship discounts because the outfitting discount is absolutely not worth it. Not unless you're flying around in a ship that uses class 3 internals.

I don't have or want a Cutter so I was never planning to take advantage of the 30% discount, but the whole thing still bugs me.

  • When players discovered the verbose debug logs could tell them when they had found a big-ship RES spawn, FDev patched it the next day.
  • When players discovered they could abandon high-quantity smuggling missions in Robigo and sell the slaves for easy profit, FDev patched it the next business day.
    • These missions were later re-introduced with a higher impact on reputation to prevent players from using this exploit indefinitely.
  • When players discovered that they could save 30% on ships FDev patched it the next day.
  • When players discovered that certain types of missions (eg the hostage ones) couldn't be completed and were bugged 100% of the time, FDev disabled them the next day.

Oh wait. That last one isn't true, those missions are still there today and I still see regular posts from players who have wasted hours trying to complete missions without knowing that they don't work.

FDev jumps on bugs that allow players to make or save too much money immediately, while bugs that are causing new or uninformed players a ton of grief and wasting hours of their time are left in the client for nearly two months without being disabled or fixed.
