It is a possible twist that could be introduced. If you look at the words in Galnet for Feb 7 and Feb 9, it implies the Professor's ship ("with a wealth of valuable research material") set off from OO, but didn't say he was on it.
This i can confirm, after finally catching up with one in my FDL last night and opening fire on it before it was in sensor range. Turned out to be a CMDR's orange asp who on his screen was docked. Wierd thing within 3 seconds of being within sensor range the ship disapeared with a low wake marker. Even though the CMDR was still docked. Managed to get in contact and he never left the station the whole time.
The jury is still out on this one since it seems there's minor variations in reports. I opened a ticket regarding the issue, https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=231348 hoping to get an official statement. Anyone feel free to add to the report, the more data FD get's the better.
Hmm - UAs not only send a drawing of the scanned vessels in Mores code. They now project holograms of docked ships in space.
This technology will be picked up by the advertising industri in no time.

Has anyone made the connection that maybe the Barnacles are the evolution of UA's? We've made the connection that they seem to appear near crash sites but from what I've read no one has made it plausible that the UA's evolve into barnacles after they "consume" and destroy a ship possibly causing them to crash land and making them evolve into barnacles. Could the UA's be scanning us for potential hosts for its evolution and our curiosity of scooping them up is literally killing us? Maybe the fact that UA's point to Merope is because that's where they're programmed to condense their evolution into barnacles (it is where most have been spotted anyway). Maybe all the random sightings of ships that people are seeing are in fact ships that the UA has become in control and consumed to fly into the ground in Merope, it would explain why they're mostly seen around the system. Just a few things I've been pondering, anyone have anything to refute this?

Loaded up with meta-alloys and emergency shelters to store them in on uncharted moons, out of sight of authorities, it was time for him to disappear with his ill-gotten gains and get rich selling the stuff on the black market.
Yes, this is the last we've seen of "Professor Palin". He'll be sipping martinis on a paradise planet soon enough.

i actually quite like this theory lol, my only question is why would he pay us to deliver the shelters/alloys? The alloys especially, as you say the price was rapidly brought down by the thousands of tons delivered. How would he make any profit after paying hundreds of Cmdrs several million each, twice now, then selling on reduced price meta alloy?

Due to the mass selling, demand fell at those stations and the prices crashed; meaning in the long run, he got them all for a massive bargain. But the price will rebound. He's got shelters to store the stuff in. He just has to wait for the market to adjust, or on the black market: the right price to be offered.

I believe Palins discovered the connection between UA's and Barnacles. He's definitely a for profit type of person. For him to disappear like this I would guess he's scheming a way to build a barnacle farm to harvest more meta alloys with all the UA's he's received. Maybe well see a large outbreak of barnacles soon?
Tell me, is that going to be painful? So shall I add to the biscuit order a few jars of analgesic cream...?
