My speculation is that last alpha 4 point release *will* be release candidate for premium beta, which will all be testing for last two weeks of May. So there will be some continuity. I think that it was what Michael basically said one of his post half a week ago when we discussed this here.

2 weeks sounds hardly long enough to properly test such a large addition to the game. (several systems, full travel, trading, etc.)
Yeah, but we will already test it since begining of May. They will just add/throw in more details in build and will call it a premium beta. So first two weeks we will have 4.0, possibly 4.1, and then we will have 4.2 aka premium beta release candidate build. That's how I see it anyway.

Yeah, the only way it makes sense is if beta 1 is practically identical to alpha 4.

I know FD QA guys and devs are very heroic to support testers during weekends, but I guess they are not that heroic to do that over Easter
So I will be ok with actual release date for phase 4, detailed info, and starmap in peek of the week for Tinman

I believe there is some misinterpretation.
I'm not certain on the accuracy of the store statement of May for Alpha 4 but even so I am unsure how May 16th (2 weeks before Nay 30th) changed from Alpha testing Premium Beta to Alpha 4 (trade & travel).
I'm doubtful they are the same thing.
That would mean (if they are different) Alpha 4 will have to be completed by May 15th. I would think a full phase would take at least a couple weeks (if not more) which would mean Alpha 4 would have to be released by May 1st or 2nd (if not before). Based on the ticket resolution I received I'm inclined to think most of the networking issues will be an on-going priority project (to be completed before release). This means (to me) we are so very much closer to either 3.5 or 4.0 (imminent) and unless there is something that needs fixing that cannot be incorporated into 4.0 I see no reason to hold up 4.0 and I suspect Frontier of the same. Obviously getting the package as polished as possible and not becoming another spinning ship of dementia (SSOD) compilation is enough to make any developer triple-check everything and I suspect Frontier of nothing less.
I also can't blame FD for a lack of communication as we disseminate every word on an atomic scale, apply subjective interpretation and outright invention (in some cases). Granted, there has been mis worded and maybe inaccuracies BUT it's all aimed at making Elite: Dangerous a reality and only slowing down the rate of roll-out to produce a bigger and better game, even to the extent of incorporating the solo combat scenarios. Every little extra thing has to take time to make and not only make but impress (not only us but themselves).
Everyone realizes how excited we are to get our hands on it and most everyone is willing to allow the time for the game to be even better.
For pretty much the first time FD has made a commited date to release Oremium Beta on May 30th. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3.4 within a week but even if it's still a month away I'm confident Frontier is working very hard to get it done and done in a great way.
