Think this is great news, they are fans of the game as well :D

Article is HERE

yeah pretty epic

I'd like to see some good elite universe space opera Peter F Hamilton style, but i dont think he is one of their authors

Maybe they could tempt Joe Abercrombie into writing some sci-fi, he's a fantasy author, but also a gamer and likes whisky (I understand from a recent faq that Jameson is named after a whisky)

Peter F Hamilton is pretty much the only modern sci-fi author that I read. But his novels are _long_. I don't think he could produce one in such a short time, even if he could be persuaded to get involved. ;)

Here is what I want (I promised to be nice this year, so Santa better bring it):

I want a nice extrapolation of the lore in Elite, enough so that in a 3-5 year time, we can see a space opera based off Elite! Preferably in some ways incorporating JMS...

Would be interesting if they follow three characters all investigating the Dark Wheel. One the kid from the original book (who I didn't like all that much myself), and the others completely disconnected people following clues from another angle.

That is fantastic news! :)

I wonder who they will get to write them? Anyone got any suggestions (realistic or otherwise)?

Hmmm, may I suggest Kim Stanley Robinson? :)

Or how about Stephen Baxter? Iain Banks! :D

...if only...

I think we will be buying lots of elite books :D

Correction: we already have 'bought' lots of Elite books!

I really hope that with FD promoting books on the game's release and an established publisher and author(s) involved it'll spread the Elite brand beyond just gaming circles. With luck each will reinforce the other resulting in more ED success and thus more expansions in the future :)

So, it's been a few months, who wants to start rampant speculation on what authors will be writing for Gollancz? :)

For me most of my favourite sci-fi authors have, alas, departed. About the only big name I could get excited by is Margaret Atwood.

There are a couple of authors who I like reading... Alastair Reynolds being one who's participation might get me rather excited! :)

Isn't John G Hemry (Jack Campbell) also published by Gollancz?

He surely writes some nice fleet battle actions and strategy.
Maybe not as suitale for the commander centric stories, but a good story to give insight into the workings of the interstellar navies is also needed.
If only for variety. ;)

Have heard nothing so far. Have asked a couple of times.

Apparently, 'mum' is the word.

Cheers,

Drew.
