Prem Beta Tactics

For those who've just been given access to the combat scenarios, how are you dealing with them? Particularly the final two missions.

To take out the Anaconda with escort, I simply get in behind its engines before I start shooting. It's the only place safe lol.

I've been flying in and holding target about 400-700m away chasing them. With multiple targets in "incursion" I'm finding with multiple targets I can only defeat them in reverse and holding them about 2 - 2.5k away. However the downside is when I've got 4 oppos, I loose two of them, so get no further.

In Factions, I simply wait, If I attempt combat I find I'll get a small few kills, no more than 4, before I'm toast, and No kills if I'm attacking to the left, all the Anaconda's.

I hope I improve.

I found this video very useful.

Very useful once you master the move. :D

Most useful. I've done the downward thrust.... well sideward, and used yaw.

Used FA off to flip and full reverse. I just seem to find the pitch quite slow, so use my full pitch and up or down thrusters to chase a ship that's just out of sight.

going to find a NAV beacon and try out some of these again :p

Quickest turn rate happens at 50% throttle IIRC. (Not that I ever manage it though.)

Just got the Alpha 1 too. I get to about wave 5 in Incursion (I think). It's the single cobra and he always kills me.
I was playing keyboard while waiting for 360 controller to arrive. Now having to train myself with the 360 as I found myself always overcompensating when chasing down foes. I just have to calm down and not get over-eager when pitching/rolling. :D

jeez, you guys are well ahead of me - took me about 45 mins to do 1st kill. Never seemed to line up and when it did, the damn pulse lasers were pulsing off just when he was right in my sights

Might be (hope it is) that I haven't used a joystick since I played Tie Fighter which was like early 90s iirc

Here's hoping - gonna try running the 1st 2 scenarios a couple of more times to see if I can get better control

The day after I saw that, I finally beat the incursion scenario!:D:cool:
I now only use reverse thrust to get out of a dual (duel?) loop where I just circle with an opponent.
Short bursts of the laser is the real key, that and knowing when to zoom in for the kill, and of course which subsystems to boost when.

One thing I've found... When I use engine boost + evasive manoeuvres to try to escape when my sheilds are being drained, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference!
How the frak can they keep a lock on me while I'm boosting, turning, ducking and diving?

I can only repeat what's been said to me: "Persevere".

My heart sank when I switched from keyboard (which is what I've always used) to the 360, and I couldn't track the enemy properly. Not sure if playing with a joystick is similar, but I found I was over steering with the analogue sticks on the controller, pushing them to max all the time, instead of just nudging the stick when the enemy was closer to my sights.

Practise really does make perfect.

For the anaconda with escorts I took out the escorts first, by this time I only had one wingman left who helped draw some of the anacondas fire.

when it starts to focus you boost power to engines and get out of range. boost power to systems and get those shields up. reset power and boost engines again to close range quickly, when in range boost power to weapons, get the anaconda shield down with your laser, then unload all your missiles when your close enough not to miss. Boost to engines to get out of range, rinse and repeat.

Really enjoying incursion at the moment, I can do the one after the cobra 3 which is a single small fighter, but get my ass kicked on the wave with 3 fighters, I'm usually pretty damaged by then anyway.

For the Supply Strike scenario, I just go in to ~500m off his tail, boost all power to weapons and keep firing until his sheilds die, then alternately fire all missiles into his butt and keep firing lasers. I usually survive.
I think I'll try staying out of his range and blasting him from afar - that's how to bear the anaconda in "Incursion". Its range seems to be about 2km, but the sidewinders' :cool:is ~3km

I kill Anaconda from the distance. Get out of her guns range and laser her down. It's a long and boring process. But it's either that or hid behind engines. Both approaches are quite long and boring.

Last mission you can play for either side. If you want quick and easy win play for one side, long and difficult - for the other.

Seen a few Vids of that method...

I find it quick and easy to get in behind the engines..... DON'T stray from behind or you're toast very quickly.
