Powerplay Maintaining System Independence

I'm operating out of a backwater system, not controlled by a power. Although the controlling minor faction has a Federation alliegance, as a miner, I'm happier that the system stays "uncontrolled" by a power mafia for now.

Today, two of the smallest minor factions in the system are in Civil War (they are both Independent). Perhaps coincidentally, the system is also marked today as being contested by Felicia Winters (Federation).

Am I able to do anything to prevent the Winters expansion as a non power pledged Commander?
Is the Civil War linked to that expansion? (If so, both are independents, which should I support?)

The only way to oppose expansions is by pledging to an enemy power and fighting it there. In this case it means you have to pledge to a non-Federation power. Then you travel to the Winters expansion in question and oppose it through undermining (kill any PowerPlay ship that isn't aligned to the same Major Allegiance as your chosen power). To be frank, this makes Mahon the best choice, as Mahon pilots can kill all other PowerPlay factions (here it means you do not kill Mahon Enforcers in the system). For the undermining to take effect you then hand it in at your power's nearest control system (it cannot be a control system that is in turmoil though).

You may also have luck trying to plead your case on the Winters subreddit, but I'm pledged to Mahon so I can't speak for them.

The civil war is not linked to the expansion in any way, shape or form.

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame that for now the local faction situation can't influence the powers presenting. Pledging for a different power, though I can see how that would work) slightly defeats the object of; "galactic power? no thanks here" little sytem mentality that I've been developing here.

I can see how high population systems in the core, already used to governing influences, would switch between one power and the other. But, as huge swathes of the bubble are under power control, and this little island of independence is shrinking fast, perhaps the suggestion would be that previously uncontrolled systems have a way to resist power take over (if that's the word) either by being especially difficult for a power to move into, or to have some way to resist.

I'll take this up with the reddit. Thanks a lot Commander.

In the future you will have the Freedom Fighter mechanic where you can fight expansions without joining a Power, but when that happens is anyone's guess- maybe in 2.1.

hint : It will appear at the same time than the patch for CC boost for new population.

I happen to be a Winters player. Which system is your home can I ask first of all?

If a system's status is "contested" then it's in the bubble of more than one power. Who's the other power contesting the system?

Also, in general Felicia is good for miners; she provides a 20% security increase in Independent systems.
