Tyre tracks please! It's simply a must!

I'm not sure what the final verdict was but during the beta of Horizons it was discussed. I think they put it on the list of future additions but didn't see it as an immediate priority.

So uh, patience, I guess.

I would love dust and tracks so in low gravity enviroment the dust trail is large and cloudy and obscure the tracks behind you while on hi-G worlds the tracks are heavy and deep as the upturned ground material quickly fall to the ground.

A moderater here in the forum said that they had to moderrate the tracks because ppl can "write"" bad words or symbols. <-- no joke.

facepalm time

What? Lol, I must have missed that. Afaik the reason it is not in is simply that it wasn't that important, nor deemed so highly desired. Heck, bad words... you could just give yourself a "bad word" CMDR name and scan a planet for the first time, and every subsequent explorer will see your "bad word" name in the system map. :D

That will happen:

(replace mars with whatever planet you want and can land on)

Considering how you twisted another forum users words in another post only minutes ago, I'll ask for a direct quote on the above, please :)

It's not a must and it brings with it overheads. How long do you record the tracks, how long do you keep the last generated tracks 'in place'. Do others see them?

I recall the thread, and while a lot of people would like to see tyre tracks, there were several reasons as to why it was low on the list of priorities. Making offensive visuals was one, but the big one was the impact on network traffic. If several SRVS were in the same area, and the tyre tracks from them all were visible to all (and there could be as many as 32 SRVs, remember), each SRV would not only have to 'say' where it is for the tracks to be made, but its' direction and velocity (and, if it went airborne, the points of take off and landing) so that the tracks could then be generated (and they would have to be created in real time), and this would have to be done for all in that instance so everybody could see the tyre tracks. OK, when the area is cleared the tracks could then fade out, but what if other SRVs turned up as some left? These new SRVs would generate new tracks, but the old ones would have to remain until the instance has been completely cleared.

So there aren't any games today that make tyre tracks in MP?

This is the first (and only) MP game I have played on-line, so I cannot answer that question, and all that it means. All I could do was to remember the thread (and if I could recall its' name I would link it in), and post up what I believed to be the reasons it was not being implemented. I know I did make a comment in that thread, so I will trawl through my comments to see if I can find it.

Suggest optimising GPU performance on planets first before adding any more effects. I mean why is the whole planet being rendered, you can't see all of it, half of it is usually in the dark! Or on the other side of the planet! Judt render half surely.

Good, find thanks :)

Seeing other players tracks has been in MP for years though they are generally short lived, lasting maybe 30 seconds. That doesn't mean tracks can't be persistent and all that's needed is for your PC to map where you've driven and to do that it just draws a line which is easy to do, it gets done in The Hunter and every flight sim pretty much can plot your routes. BF4 can even save whole matches to watch later can't it?

So to say it's not possible we can dispense with. Remember the routes and overlay the tracks on top of them.

We need to remember we're in 2016 here and not 1985. I think FD just time warped from that period in time.

Must be why David still looks so young..... ;)

I think that the real problem is not that you cannot see your own tyre tracks (ok, doable by your own system), but that people would then want to see the tyre tracks generated by other SRVs, and that is where the network load would go up a lot. I can recall times when I have been in the same instance as others Players in Super Cruise, and the number of NPCs has gone up rapidly (I seem to recall that there could be up to 15 NPCs per player, but I am not certain of this), and the FPS has gone DOWN at the same rate of knots, to the point where I saw FPS as low as 15 (and on my PC that is one heck of a hit, as it is no slouch).
